| Baptor07-07-07, 01:53 PM | I am planning on running a game in Cormyr soon and I found a detailed map of the region for said campaign. It's full of interesting ruins and places I'd like to use, but I can't find anything useful on them. For instance, what is Sling****? One source I find says its a lost mining town and others say its a keep. Is it both? Neither? What is the Witch-Lord's castle and who was/is the witch-lord? There are many other locations in Cormyr I can't find any information on in my books and I suppose the better question is there a website where I can find more information on the places in Cormyr? |
| Tseramed07-07-07, 02:56 PM | Volo's guide to Cormyr available as a free download here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads Other than that, there is the Campaign Setting of course and you will find a lot at Candlekeep: http://www.candlekeep.com/. Search around and you'll find your informations. |
| Old Sage07-07-07, 08:41 PM | In late 800s DR, Cormyr entered into conflict with the Witch Lords to the east of Forest Kingdom. The Witch Lords were said to be evil necromancer lords who ruled territory east of Wheloon and Wyvernwater and west of Sembia. In the Year of Thirsty Swords (900 DR), King Galaghard of Cormyr battled the forces of the Witch Lords at Wheloon, Juniril, and Manticore's Crossing. The final battle between the two forces occurred at the Vast Swamp, with Cormyr winning with help from elven stag cavalry. There's a few details about the battle in Cormyr: A Novel -- Chapter 20, named "Battle of the Witch Lords". In said chapter, you can see that these Lords have a strong affinity for necromantic magics, as they animated a whole army of undead (even the fallen soldiers of Cormyr and their own fallen mercenaries from other battles) along with some alive humanoids (orcs and goblins IIRC) to face the brave king of Forest Kingdom. The Lords' wizards flew on the backs of giant bats and battled flying War Wizards of Cormyr in the air above the ground battle between Cormyte army and dark horde. Cormyr would have lost the battle were it not for elven lords and their stag cavalry. Nothing more was heard from the Witch Lords after this period. See Ed's '05 replies as well. ... | Baptor07-07-07, 10:14 PM | As for lore on certain locations in Cormyr, which particular areas are you looking at? Name them here, and I'll see what I can find... Really? I duly appreciate it. Here we go... First off, I'd like to say the main things I'd like to know is which of these are ruins/dungeons and which are active fortifications. The map I have does not distinguish. If it is an active fort held by cormyr, no additional info is nessecary, but if it is a dungeon/ruin, I'd like to know more. My main hope is to gather a listing of dangerous locales for my adventurers to go. Elfhold Tethguard Realm of Wailing Fog Firehammer Keep Orvaskyte Keep Keep of Sir Dirlar Battlegate Witch-Lord's Castle (you gave me the war but not the locale, is this where the witch lords live now? Or is it merely the ruins of their stronghold?) Marsark's Grove Dead Wall Ironguard Laughing Head Shield House Cave of Wickedness Irondrake Rock Barrenstone Slinghyke (the h is actually a d, but if I spell it right it gets censored) Warm Waterfall Haunted Halls Some of these I might find in books, but for the most part my searches have come up empty handed. The FRCS has little to say if anything about these locations, and other books just acknowledge their exsistance. |
| Old Sage07-08-07, 01:20 AM | I can give you some references. Elfhold -- Volo's Guide to All Things Magical. Tethguard -- Crown of Fire. Realm of Wailing Fog -- Ed's June 20th '04 reply at Candlekeep. Irongard -- "Irongard" (DUNGEON #18) Shield House -- FOR4 [i]The Code of the Harpers. Most of the rest are from the inside-covers map from Eric Haddock's Cormyr, and aren't specifically detailed anywhere. I'd read Volo's Guide to Cormyr, the main source on the Forest Kingdom, first, before bothering with these minor places. |
| Krash07-08-07, 08:01 AM | Irondrake Rock is from the Shandril novels also. More info on Elfhold is in "Faiths & Pantheons". Lots of the others in the Volo's Guide. No further info on the Witch Lords or their castle. -- George Krashos |
| Faraer07-08-07, 08:26 AM | Orvaskyte Keep and Barrenstone are from Four from Cormyr (also a free download (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads)). For the Haunted Halls, see FRQ1 Haunted Halls of Eveningstar and Swords of Eveningstar (which is an excellent adventurer's look at Cormyr, as opposed to a king's and historian's look). Do you have Faiths and Pantheons? It details the Wyvernstones of Hullack, a dangerous locale. |
