Howdy folks,
I've got a couple questions about Cormyr that I really hope someone can answer. I'll do it in point form to save a bit of time.

- With the current state of Cormyr how likely would a camp of bandits operating out of the Hermit's Wood be?

- Would the recent conflicts in Cormyr explain why the above noted camp was not "taken care of"?

- Do any maps of the Hermit's wood exist? and is it plausible that if properly concealed, the camp could remain hidden?

- How likely would it be for the camp to traffic in slaves, essentially meeting ships along the coast to board their captured merchandise?

hopefully I was clear enough that someone will be able to provide me with the above information, I've scoured my FR library (Volo's Guide to Cormyr mainly, along with all the 3.0 & 3.5 sourcebooks) but I have yet to find if my ideas would work.

Thanks.

not very likely unless they have someone that can hide them from the war wizards, though i can see some of the nobles possibly supporting like the cormarils(sp?)

the only way i would buy this is if it was in the north where the goblins ran though it would have to have a reason for the crown to ignore the area like nothing existed there anymore, i don't see it in the hermits wood

i have no idea on maps, but the forest is way close to marsember and the crown should always keep an eye on that area

sure let them all be put into spell guises and just walk them to the ship, if there are bandits there i buy it

Time line matters in this question also. The Rain of Fire that was so disruptive in Sembia in '73 could have also cause sufficient chaos to give bandits and slavers an operational opening in eastern Cormyr.

The recent troubles like the dragon rage, war against the shadowaar and the rain of fire would probably give outlaws and maybe even slavers several openings to set up base operations in Cormyr.
However if there is one thing the crown wont stand for its slavery, perticularly of their own citizens.
So if the aforementioned slaver camp was even hinted at near any member of the Purpledragons, war wizards or scouts of the crown you can bet your last copper they would track it down and dispose of it as a priority.

Way to make it as a bandit or whatever in an area with a military- and law enforcement infrastructure, is to be so smalltime you fly under the radar.
I mean if the crown has to decide whether to send the troops to repel the dragon eating the cattle (and the herders) or stop some two bit bandit in the hermit wood, the bandits wont be high on the "to do" list.

Course thats when they hire adventureres to handle it :D

I think all of these things are possible if you take into acount that most of the kingdom is still recovering from the war and that the attention of the Purple Dragon Knights and the War Wizards is elsewhere. You can of course have nobles behind the scene, helping to keep the bandit camp away from prying eyes as there is quite a lot of scheming in Cormyr's nobility recently. ( Well, not just recently actually...)

The salvery thing is also plausible IMO. Westgate isn't far on the other side of the mere and I think it would make a pretty good exchange port. Marsember isn't so clean either. There are assassins, and other shady beings that make a living out of corruption in Marsember. Not as much as in Westgate but the Nightmask could have associates on Cormyrian soil.

I personnaly don't make the War Wizard as prominent as Ed makes them in Cormyr books like "The swords of Eveningstar". They seem like the CIA made for the realms in that book... ;)
