any stats for danica (from the cleric quintet) couldn't find any official ones

There are no "official" stats that I'm aware of, but Tom Costa came up with some and shared them with us some time ago. Here's a link (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=748199&page=3) to a current thread where he posted them for us (they're on page 3, about halfway down). Something to note, I think Tom did them back in 3.0, so they'd need a little alteration to 3.5. Still cool to have, though.

Also, on the first page of that same thread (using the link above), you will have Alurvelve (the OP's) version, and below are mine, each of us using Tom's stats as a basis.

Her 2nd edition stats are in the Heroes Lorebook, page 33. She's an 11th level fighter, with an 18/33 Str, 18 Dex, 17 Con, 13 Int, 14 Wis, and 16 Cha.

Green Giant did stat her up in his npc thread, IIRC. He put her as a rogue1/monk11/fighter4.

Oh dear, all these XP penalties ;)

I haven't read too many of the stories involving her, but simply because a class is geared for unarmed fighting does not mean that someone needs to belong to the class. I cannot exactly remember her being that much of a ki-lass in the novel I read.
It is more like a problem of the edition(s), i.e. that there is the fighter and the bonus feats that give you unarmed attacks et al, but no unarmored defence. But that's just me.

I had the hardcover collector's edition for a while (left it as a tip at an IHOP for a waitress who said she wanted to get one, but wouldn't be able to afford it), but in there, Bob talks about how he originally wanted to write a book about a monk, but TSR asked for one about a cleric, instead, since they were phasing the monk out of second edition. They did not, however, object to a monk in the secondary role.

Does Danica actually display any "monkish" ki skills in the later novels (I never got past the first two)? If not I assume you could use the Shou Disciple PrC from UE to cover her martial arts ability without making her quasi-mystical.

Hate to pimp Eberron materiel in an FR thread, but the Secrets of Sarlona book (exerpts should still be available at the WoTC site) has some interesting feats (Hazing Strike, Versatile Unarmed Strike) she might qualify for, depending on the build.

-Now, you see, that's just plain nice. :)

thanks that really helped
i do think she's a monk though because of that nigel nugel iron skull thing and the physical suspention besides that r.a. said so

Well she is studing the doctrines of Penpahg D'Ahn, which I thought to be a great monk some time ago. She meditates every day, is lawfull and has gained the iron skull feat. So I would say shes definitly a monk :)

But I'm woundering where this rogue Level comes from?

I think that the rogue level might come from the fact that Danica seemed sorta "streetwise" in the books.

Heya,

Going solely by what abilities they show in various novels, most characters would end up being recast as other classes. Myrmeen Lhal? Fighter*. Drizzt? Fighter*. Most of the Chosen of Mys... meh, why stop there? Most of the WIZARDS? Sorcerers. I could make this list longer, but I'm sure you see what I mean. :)

* Or some non-spellcasting Ranger variant, or Scout, or Fighter/Rogue with the Track feat.

Having read the Cleric Quintet, Danica definitely struck me as "monkish" and not at all like your typical fighter. Of course, I read those books after having been exposed to 3E monks.

Remember, Danica is based on a 1st edition monk. She can somewhat understand Percival (3rd level monks can speak with animals). She enters a cataleptic state (6th level monk ability). She fights off the chaos curse (9th level monks are 50% resistant to charms, hypnosis, etc.). She proves herself immune to poison when Druzil stings her (11th level monk routine).

My greatest problem with the monks (3E/RE) is the definite link to Eastern / Asia / Shaolin stuff. The AD&D ones (F&A) were more a mix of the Western European ones with a martial arts streak (i.e. more the "we don't use real weapons philosophy" rather than "we are kung-fu experts").
Had they shaped up less as Shaolin chaps with less "ki-abilities", they would be far easier acceptable in the Realms (i.e. Faerūn, not Kara-tur) as they are - IMHO.
Of course, when I speak of fighter types, I do keep in mind variants of the main-stream fighter, like the swashbuckler, hexblade or ranger. I wonder whether the Tome of Battle features stuff for "fighters" who specialize in unarmed combat and unarmored fighting, i.e. special stuff like the swashbuckler gets. Of course, Unearthed Arcana also offers a few bits and pieces.

Then again, NPCs such as Danica should not be accessible only by DMs who have 15 books with variant rules at hand ...
