| Mordakahn08-29-07, 01:56 PM | Does anyone know of any specific Death Knights in Toril? |
| Diffan08-29-07, 02:09 PM | While I'm sure there are, there hasn't been one written about in any source book or novel that I can think of. Still, it doesn't mean that they don't exist, though maybe they're rather rare compared to the other types of undead on Toril. I can easily forsee fallen paladins, knights once dedicated to say Cormyr who've disgraced themselves, and other fallen heroes take the template. I'd also suggest relating them to some Deity they now champion as to how they've gained their Death Knight status. Oh, in the book Pools of Darkness, there was an Undead Paladin dedicated to Tyr who was risen back to perform some quest for him. Though technically not a Death Knight like say Lord Soth, he was undead and had his paladin abilities. If he can exist in Toril, I'd say there's a fair bet there are Death Knights as well. |
| Mad Mage08-29-07, 02:33 PM | There is one featured in Champions of Ruin. |
| Galad08-29-07, 05:36 PM | IIRC there was a group of them back in 2e under the entry for Myrkul in Faiths and Pantheons. There were 12 of them "living" somewhere in the south who were trying to decide what they should do since Myrkul died. They were considering riding forth and just killing in his name until destroyed themselves. They were dedicated to the destruction of a dracolich (green I think) who kept rising and their hold had at least 10 dragon hordes. Each had 12 skeletal warrior followers too. As far as I know they have not been mentioned in 3rd edition. |
| Green Giant08-30-07, 10:03 PM | Shan Nikkoleth, a death knight, led legions of cambion troops in Hellgate Keep as mentioned in Volo's Guide to the North. Whether he survived the destruction of the keep is unknown. |

They are mentioned again in Shining South (3e), but it's unclear what they decided to do. I suspect they turned to Kelemvor, as the last proper god of the dead to dedicate themselves to, and by the apparent name-change. |
| capnvan08-31-07, 03:47 AM | Vanrak Moonstar from City of Splendors, p. 62 Imbrar Heltharn, Fallen King of Impiltur, from Champions of Ruin, p. 139 Hope that helps. |
| Green Elven Vampire08-31-07, 04:40 AM | Jingleshod... he lives in the Dire Wood in The High Forest! You can read about him in the "Return of the Archwizards" trilogy. |
| ElMorte08-31-07, 06:58 AM | There is one in "Lost Empires of Faerun" and one in "Serpent Kingdoms". |
| ElMorte08-31-07, 06:58 AM | Damn double post. |
| Zanan08-31-07, 08:50 AM | The Knights Of The Undying/Eternal Dragon, in the Castle Of Al'hanar in the Shaar. I suspect they turned to Kelemvor, as the last proper god of the dead to dedicate themselves to, and by the apparent name-change. "The Knights of the Undying Dragon" are "detailed" in Faiths & Avatars. They have yet to decide on a new deity, but given the Servant of the Fallen feat and Kelemvor's disdain for free roving evil undead, it is likely that they keep Myrkul. BTW, the Death Knight template can be found in Monster Manual II (and there is a web-enhancement update (PGtF) for them too, methinks. |
| Mad Mage08-31-07, 07:04 PM | Imbrar Heltharn, Fallen King of Impiltur, from Champions of Ruin, p. 139 That's the one I was thinking of! Just didn't have his name. :lightbulb |
| Diffan09-02-07, 12:37 PM | BTW, the Death Knight template can be found in Monster Manual II (and there is a web-enhancement update (PGtF) for them too, methinks. The MM II version is 3.0 and not the current updated version. The correct version can be found in the Dragon Lance Campaign Setting. Changes include DR 10/magic and added abilities that increase with the Death Knight's HD total like Symbol: Pain, wall of ice, things of that nature. Also, the level adjustment is +5. I don't honestly know if there is a Web enhancement for Faerun, so if you could find it Zanan, it'd be awesome. :) |
| Zanan09-02-07, 01:40 PM | Diffan ... this http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20040313a ... is the link I was refrring to, but it does not include the update for the death knight. I read it somewhere, though it was not FR specific. Thus, I would assume that your Dragonlance-one will hold true for the rest of D&D as well. |
| Eli_the_Tanner09-04-07, 08:06 PM | Demogorgon himself/himself is credited with creating the first Death Knights. |
