I was having a debate with somone that reads both sets of novels, as I do. He said that humnoid NPCs in general from FR are better than DR...Drizzt would tear up kyrrn, but he said that Dragonlance Dragons would take a crap on FR dragons. My friend had told me that the fact that the series is named after dragons and have so many variations of them should make his point clear, and every time there is a war in that book it involves a dragon, hence because they are of great power. I need somone who has read Year of the Rouge Dragon, and some of the Dragonlance novels to varify this for me. From the cover art of what I seen, FR dragons are big enough to take a step on DL dragons.

Sorry for asking these questions that seem like a waste of time, but I couldn't find any forums on google that carry 2 or more sets of fantasy worlds.

Mechanically, there is no difference between Krynn's dragons and the Realm's dragons.

That being said, I think there are more dragons with class levels in the Realms.

Dragon with class levels > Dragon without class levels

Classes in dragonlance are "color" determinded with them. Including they moral standards...if you're born a green dragon...automatic evil.

It's the same way in the Realms.

He was referring to class levels like Fighter, Wizard, Cleric, etc.

That being said, the Dragons of the Fifth Age (the ones from Ta.. That other continent - well, maybe Space Dragons.. I kind of forget) like Malystryx, and ones who learned how to absorb the powers of other dragons, like Khellendros, are super more powerful than standard PHB dragons.

But so are the likes of Dargothauth, the Creeping Doom, Inferno, and Tchazzar.

After the Dragon Overlords are killed, I think FR's dragons can pretty much wipe the floor with DL's.

DL dragons are and alwas were portrayed to be closer to humans than other dragons. Because of this and because many humans managed to defeat dragons during the history at some point the explanation that DL dragons are weaker than normal D&D dragons was used to justify it.

But rules wise the DL dragons have the exact same stats than other D&D dragons.
