| Phelf_Der_Zemit10-31-07, 04:41 PM | Ok so I'm not sure if the questions been posed before, but for a pc charactor what sword of drizzts would you rather have? I know their not offically stated yet (or have they been, well not to my knowledge) other than +3 deffending or what ever. We know Iceingdeath is semi-sentent, and twinkle supposedly very magical. Iceingdeath can exstingwish magical fires, and protects the wielder from fire, and demons with the fire subtype. Twinkle, well not sure how twinkles enchanted, mabye a defending or keen or somthing. So the question Twinkle or Iceingdeath? I chose Iceingdeath for life! |
| Lord Karsus10-31-07, 06:09 PM | -They are officially stated in every source that gives Drizzt an extended stat-block. |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit10-31-07, 07:44 PM | well in FRCS they are jsut called by basic magic items, and Im prty sure their a little more than that. |
| Lord Karsus10-31-07, 07:53 PM | -No, that's all they are. |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit10-31-07, 08:04 PM | well be it as it may, icingdeath seems semi-sentant. Urging it's wielder to throw caution to the wind and attack the on coming demon... just seems fishy. anyways do you have particularly favorite blade with backround. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin10-31-07, 09:01 PM | Drizzt's Fineries? You mean, like his secret collection of feather boas? |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit10-31-07, 09:31 PM | if he happens to own some. but you looked at the thread, even if it was semi misleading. wait... you wouldnt happen to have an oppinon on the topic would you? ps. as per Dictionary.com it is a sort of casting for iron works, maybe a sword.. |
| creyzi4zb1210-31-07, 09:45 PM | The Guenvhywahar figurine. I mean the plain one..... :D |
| BadCatMan10-31-07, 09:53 PM | Some possibilities for Icingdeath: * Aquan: This enhancement from Planar Handbook and the Magic Item Compendium is like Holy, but for creatures of the fire subtype. It overcomes their DR and deals extra damage. * Frost Brand: It frosts over when cold, protects against fire and extinguishes flames. But it doesn't seem to do any cold damage like the one in the DMG. It shouldn't be too hard to reverse engineer that one to figure out the enhancement costs. |
| BadCatMan10-31-07, 10:00 PM | Double Post |
| selunatic239710-31-07, 10:53 PM | In the original 1ED sources Twinkle is a +4 Defender, and Icingdeath is a standard +3 Frostbrand/+6 versus fire using/dwelling creatures [ it provides protection equal to a ring of fire resistance and whenever it is thrust into fires it has a chance of 50% to extinguish them in a 10' radius, it only glows when the temperature is below 0 F] Neither sword is or has ever been sentient in any way. :) This has been brought to you courtesy of one of the last 1ED DMs...:D Disclaimer: fire extinguishing ability does not include fireballs, meteor swarms,or flame strikes. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin10-31-07, 11:06 PM | if he happens to own some. but you looked at the thread, even if it was semi misleading. wait... you wouldnt happen to have an oppinon on the topic would you? ps. as per Dictionary.com it is a sort of casting for iron works, maybe a sword.. Icingdeath. The name "Twinkle" is kinda goofy. |
| 18DELTA10-31-07, 11:37 PM | The Guenvhywahar figurine. I mean the plain one..... :D QFT!!!:D Because I really love CATS!!!:D |
| 18DELTA10-31-07, 11:39 PM | Icingdeath. The name "Twinkle" is kinda goofy. Icingdeath FTW!!!:D |
| johnkretzer11-01-07, 12:02 AM | Icingdeath. The name "Twinkle" is kinda goofy. I agree Icingdeath...it just sounds better....mmm maybe if they rename "Twinkle" to Stardeath or.... |
| Dark Wizard11-01-07, 12:15 AM | I'm not particularly attached to any of the names for Drizzt's swag, that he had them for a while makes them mildly iconic for him. I do like the contrast between the "cool" name Icingdeath and the unexpected Twinkle as the other of the pair. If I was a near-epic warrior I would name my sharpened pieces of magical metal all sorts of interesting names, who would disagree with me? |
| Blibbering_Humdinger11-01-07, 12:24 AM | I'd choose Icingdeath if I had to pick one of the other, but not because I like the name better than "Twinkle." (I like the name "Twinkle." It's a funny name in its own way, but it's still cool, and it fits the sword. Also, that Drizzt should have such a surface-elvish weapon is fitting for his character.) I'd pick Icingdeath because one can never have too many defenses, and such an omnipotent anti-fire weapon is a wonderful defense on top of being a good weapon. OTOH, as Twinkle is a +5 Defender, well, that one comes in at a close second. I want both, and I'm saving up for 'em. (The replicas, I mean. Once my credit card bill is completely paid, I'm maxin' it out again! :D ) |
| johnkretzer11-01-07, 12:24 AM | I thought just came to me maybe Twinkle isn't the actual name of the sword. It was given to him by Malchor Harpel...and while consider basicaly sane in comparsion to the rest of family...maybe he just named that as a gag....:D |
| Stigger11-01-07, 01:32 AM | Twinkle... I just like defender weapons though, so... :P |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit11-01-07, 07:18 AM | The only reason I would think Iceingdeath was sentanent was because it invoked emotions in it's wielder, even if it can't communicate on anyother level. But yes iceingdeath had way better powers, fire protection over AC bonus anyday. |

It was given to him by Malchor Harpel...and while consider basicaly sane in comparsion to the rest of family...maybe he just named that as a gag....:D I could have sworn the actual name of the sword was "Twinkle", but it's been a while since I read those books. And yes, I like Icingdeath for its powers as well, not just the name. But the name "Twinkle" truly is corny. |

| Passivearmada11-02-07, 11:36 PM | When I picked up The Thousand Orcs about a two years age, I looked in the back cover and saw something about how his scimitars were called Twinkle and Icingdeath. I thought: Icingdeath: cool PG-13 pastry feel Twinkle: ...twinkle little star! So basically I saw Icingdeath as death by pastry (icingsomehow reminded me of frosting) and Twinkle as a cute little name for a children's book next to Where the Wild things Are and The Cat in the Hat on their bookshelves. They're both corny but can also be interpreted as: Icingdeath: yeah! Flames and daggers are so last year, in with the ice and scimitars! Twinkle: Supernova of hot light in a blade! Stars don't twinkle, they explode! Yeah, that's about age 6-8 right above. Supernoves, daggers, and skulls. Drizzt's scimitar names may be corny or super duper cool, but that's not the point. The point is, which one killed more enemies? :detect: |

| Passivearmada11-03-07, 09:51 AM | I guess I'll take a tally the next time I read through the eighteen-book collection on my desk... seventeen, counting out The Spine of the World... but hey, I've got time--I have no life! :D Teehee. Yeah, I didn't know that the Thousand Orcs was like the 14th book in line, and I had to get all the other books. I just recently finished the Thousand Orcs a few months ago, and the Lone Drow more recently, but I haven't found the motivation to start the Two Swords, aminly because I am more interested in the Sellswords. I don't know if we'd be able to find an accurate number because it often says "he struck rapidly until the creature fell etc." or "he struck him down," so I don't know. In the part of the Lone Drow in which he is cornered and saved by Tarathiel and Innovindil, I don't think it says how many he killed, just that he slashed at any orc that came too close or something. |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit11-03-07, 07:41 PM | Actually Mr.Salvatore didnt start writing Iciingdeath into the novels till later, he would say.. "Twinkle came across knocking the orc's club wide.. while the other scimitar took it's throat." it really suprised me, but in the Thousand Orcs, he uses both names about equally. |

Well at the climax of Siege of Darkness, it says he uses that mysterious blade in his off-hand and it explains its poperties and its name in case you forgot, and he kills a glabrezu yay! |
| Orcish-Firebat11-03-07, 11:54 PM | Icing Death name was given in the Icewind dale trilogy but throughout most of the books Icing Death is refereed to as the Other sword/scimitar. Lately I would agree that they are both referred to about as often. Obviously Twinkle would be more suited for blocking as Icing death would be suited for killings demons. Overall Drizzt end up digging both of his blades into every enemy he faces so I doubt that any one of the two swords has a kill count much greater than the other. |
| Blibbering_Humdinger11-04-07, 01:18 AM | Icingdeath does not officially have a name until The Silent Blade. As a move toward making Wulfgar feel at home with the gang again, Drizzt officially christens his blade "Icingdeath" after the dragon he and Wulfgar slew together, to invoke nostalgia. It didn't work, but Icingdeath has been the name ever since. Possibly that was its name in game sourcebooks before that point, but the blade is not officially named in the book series until The Silent Blade. |

I thought he named it sooner than that...I think it was The Halfling's Gems. |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit11-04-07, 09:33 AM | no thats just when he found it. |
| Orcish-Firebat11-04-07, 09:46 AM | Uhhhh, He named his scimitar ever since he first got it from the dragon Icing Death, and Slew Errtu with it. I knew that it was Called Icing death before I read the Silent blade becuase it tells you in the IceWind Dale Trilogy and they reiterate that in Passage to dawn, when Drizzt Slew Errtu again. |
| Passivearmada11-04-07, 10:50 AM | Actually, I think he pciked it up after he and Wulfgar slew Ingeloakastimizilian (or Icingdeath), and said "Hm. I'll name it Icingdeath!" And he got Twinkle in the Halfling's Gem, from that one wizard that was inbetween Mithral Hall and Silverymoon. |

He also named Icingdeath in the Halfling Gem when Bruenor reunited with them during the attack by the pirates and Bruenor told him he should name it. |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit11-04-07, 11:48 AM | sry, im getting my books confused, he doesnt name it when he finds though, i know that much. or if he does, Salvatore doesnt use it that often till the end of the drow war. |

| Phelf_Der_Zemit11-04-07, 12:22 PM | ok, sense it doesnt matter when/why/where he named the blade, but which one would you rather have. |
| Passivearmada11-04-07, 01:51 PM | ok, sense it doesnt matter when/why/where he named the blade, but which one would you rather have. Talmauril the Heartseeker. |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit11-04-07, 08:38 PM | hardy hard har.. but seriously. |
| Charles Phipps11-05-07, 07:51 PM | I figured that Twinkle is sort of an ironic name. You know, like calling Huge Guys "Slim" or naming a Hurricane after a girl. Twinkle is a cute name for a terribly effective weapon. |
| Stigger11-06-07, 01:50 AM | I always figured he named it after the stars he saw for the first time on the surface world... seems like it would have some significance to him as I doubt he'd ever seen them before. Seemed appropriate enough to me really... |
| Blibbering_Humdinger11-06-07, 01:58 AM | That's not far off, though it wasn't he who named it. As Malchor Harpell explained it, Twinkle was "forged by the elves of a past age... forged in the magic of the powers that all surface elves hold dear. Of the stars and the moon and the mysteries of their souls." The name is an obvious reference to that. (And to the glow, of course, the Sting-ish glow, you know...) |

Twinkle is a cute name for a terribly effective weapon. Are you implying that females can't be like hurricanes (oh, they can sometimes...)? |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-06-07, 08:20 PM | *grins* I'm female, and I don't think naming a storm after a female is ironic. |
| Blibbering_Humdinger11-06-07, 10:13 PM | Hell hath no fury like a woman raging over a sexist insult, Charles. 'Ware where you tread, my friend... ;) |
| Charles Phipps11-07-07, 02:37 AM | Oddly, I knew that was coming. |
| Stigger11-07-07, 04:44 PM | There's the little button labelled 'edit'... ;) :D |
| Charles Phipps11-07-07, 08:11 PM | No, because the origin of the name was supposed to be ironic. But I'm sure everyone knew that or they'd be really silly because of their responses. |
| Passivearmada11-07-07, 08:33 PM | No, because the origin of the name was supposed to be ironic. But I'm sure everyone knew that or they'd be really silly because of their responses. All is forgiven, but I had a good laugh. |
| Stigger11-07-07, 09:20 PM | Well, that and the whole Names we Give Things tends to be rooted in some really obscure reasons that no one really ever questions too much for some reason... nothing wrong with traditions though really. :D |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-07-07, 09:46 PM | Can we talk about Drizzt's other fineries, like what's in his underwear drawer?:P |
| creyzi4zb1211-07-07, 10:46 PM | Storm Silverhand was....Storm. |
| Passivearmada11-08-07, 05:31 PM | Can we talk about Drizzt's other fineries, like what's in his underwear drawer?:P Haha. Drizzt doesn't wear underwear: do you see it on his stat sheet? :detect: Just kidding. I would like to have those bracers of speed- moving fast would be awesome. Imagine playing a sport and then your just not there, blasting past the other defense or fullback. It's be awesome. Plus, it'd be nice to just run anywhere nearby. How fast do those things make you go, anyways? |
| Blibbering_Humdinger11-08-07, 06:40 PM | Drizzt does happen to possess Boxer-Briefs of Improved Stamina, as a matter of fact--a magical item of multiple uses... :P |
| Passivearmada11-08-07, 08:34 PM | Drizzt does happen to possess Boxer-Briefs of Improved Stamina, as a matter of fact--a magical item of multiple uses... :P I don't know whether to say "eewww" or "sexy.." or "o...kay..." |

| Blibbering_Humdinger11-09-07, 01:02 AM | I don't know whether to say "eewww" or "sexy.." or "o...kay..." I responded with option three, actually. |
| Stigger11-09-07, 06:57 AM | Somehow it just sounds wrong to apply the word lingerie to a male... hmm... that feels vaguely sexist of me, how very amusing. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-09-07, 01:09 PM | Somehow it just sounds wrong to apply the word lingerie to a male... hmm... that feels vaguely sexist of me, how very amusing. I find it very amusing, and that's why I like it! |
| Passivearmada11-09-07, 03:35 PM | Anyhow, I would like to get a pair of these Boxer-Briefs of Stamina, rather than Twinkle, Icingdeath, or the bands of speed :D |
| Stigger11-09-07, 03:44 PM | I find it very amusing, and that's why I like it! :P |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-09-07, 04:07 PM | Actually, I don't want any of Drizzt's stuff. I'd rather have Hralien's pink satin ballet slippers. |
| Stigger11-09-07, 06:06 PM | Think I'd rather have the stuff I came up with on my own really... |
| Blibbering_Humdinger11-09-07, 06:53 PM | I'd rather have Jarlaxle's Briefs of Holding, to be honest. Eliminates public awkwardness, you see... :embarrass |
| captaincarot11-10-07, 09:38 AM | of course a woman is like a hurricane. when they come they're all wet and wild and when they go they take your house with em! |
| drizzt42011-10-07, 11:51 AM | I like to think of Drizzt in a Tuxedo T-Shirt. Because then it's like, I'm formal, but I came to party. |
| Blibbering_Humdinger11-10-07, 06:34 PM | *clears throat* Alright, that's enough about Drizzt's undies drawer for now. As amusing as it is, we really are getting off-track here. :embarrass <---(fully aware that he takes 90% of the blame.) |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-10-07, 07:11 PM | I like to imagine Hralien riding in on his pegasus bedecked with tinkling, twinkling little bells on it. Then, he leaps off and does the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Beautiful. |
| Stigger11-10-07, 07:22 PM | Now that creates a strange mental image for a Realms campaign... something I might have to toss as my players tonight... |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-10-07, 08:46 PM | Now that creates a strange mental image for a Realms campaign... something I might have to toss as my players tonight... Do it. Hralien's ballet lifts the spirits. "Dance on, twinkletoes.":) |
| GothicDan11-10-07, 09:23 PM | Drizzt does happen to possess Boxer-Briefs of Improved Stamina, as a matter of fact--a magical item of multiple uses... Just caught this.. Hot. But a real man doesn't need magic items for this. |
| Orcish-Firebat11-10-07, 09:31 PM | Well I can imagine multiple uses of those bands of speed. How adjustable do you think they are? |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit11-10-07, 10:26 PM | ya, im pretty sure this is about to get locked. |
| Stigger11-11-07, 01:39 AM | Do it. Hralien's ballet lifts the spirits. "Dance on, twinkletoes.":) Almost a full minute of blank stares and silence... was well worth it. Thanks :D |
| Blibbering_Humdinger11-11-07, 01:40 AM | Yes, so please, can we get off the subject of *questionable* uses for magical items?! :embarrass <---(*still PAINFULLY aware that he takes 90% of the blame*) |
| Stigger11-11-07, 01:42 AM | Speaking of PAIN, I wonder where Dan is... I'm sure he could help you out. |
| Orcish-Firebat11-11-07, 09:31 AM | There is Drizzt's Green cloak that appears to have no abilities and is completely useless other than to stop a missile here and there. Honestly, Drizzt does not have that many items, usually he end up throwing them away or getting them stolen. |
| johnkretzer11-11-07, 12:59 PM | Well I can imagine multiple uses of those bands of speed. How adjustable do you think they are? Talk about minute men.... |
| captaincarot11-11-07, 01:50 PM | There is Drizzt's Green cloak that appears to have no abilities and is completely useless other than to stop a missile here and there. ah you mean drizzt cloak of convenient arrow catching. special properties are that it will mysteriously get mentioned when getting shot with a dart from a drow hand crossbow would really knacker his chances of survival.:D |
| Passivearmada11-11-07, 01:52 PM | of course a woman is like a hurricane. when they come they're all wet and wild and when they go they take your house with em! That made me chuckle. Talk about minute men.... That made me laugh out loud for a second. And then I remember that I had to mention that whoever it was said the thing about females and hurricanes. And to Gothic Dan, your comment on a rea lman not needing magical enhanment to do his duties, that also made me laugj, but for some reason, it's only letting me multi-quote two posts. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-11-07, 05:40 PM | Almost a full minute of blank stares and silence... was well worth it. Thanks :D You're welcome!:D |

When you have a big, thick cloak like that and are being shot at with projectiles such as darts, daggers, arrows, or sling bullets, such a cloak is a good way to deter them, if, that is, you don't mind having to periodically replace your cloak. And provided they're not enchanted with fire or something. |
