| Warning02-27-08, 04:57 AM | Grettings friends,:) Drizzt Do'Urden is my most beloved favorite character in forgotten realms history. I have every novel that includes any information on him including collector editions. I have all his glow in the dark posters on my walls and even as we speak, Drizzt wall paper for my computer backround screen. I was wondering if someone could enlighten me with a currtent stats report on the greatest fantasy character in the world post "Orc king". It has been my dream to fight side by side with the heroic daring savior of the Forgotten Realms universe. PS. I can't wait until the 2nd novel in the new Drizzt trilogy. It will be fantastic. I'll buy 1 to frame on the wall, 1 to read, and 1 back up in case something terrible may happen to these classic stories. I also devoted these songs as a theme for the Amazing Drizzt Do'Urden: http://youtube.com/watch?v=kQGPFhsJaOo Take care, my best wishes! Drizzt Do'Urden for President! |
| Red_Wizard02-27-08, 09:46 AM | Well I am glad to see your down time was spent further honing your sarcastic abilities. No improvement, but at least you tried. ;) Regardless, ask and you shall receive. His stats Post Orc king are *gasp* the ones from the FRCS. "But that doesn't make any sense" you say? Well let's look at timeline. Orc king finishes in 1371-1372. What year is the FRCS set in? 1372. Huzzah, we have his current stats. -RW |

Whenever I'm in a bad way, or having inner turmoil, I think of Drizzt and how much he has endured. And I say to myself, if I set my mind and goals to his status, maybe I can prevail through hardship as he, and make the world that much more better. I even have a diary too that I write some fancy words in that aren't my native language. Just like Drizzt!:) Oh Drizzt, where are you my savior? I long for the epic life of good and just you lead. For Drizzt and I have a road worth taking! |
| Red_Wizard02-27-08, 11:00 AM | You know, if you tried walking the middle ground for perhaps two seconds, you actually might enjoy the community here. Instead you either come in inciting people into flame wars, or --now-- start spouting sarcastic gibberish in some odd attempt to perhaps show you have changed for the better. If extremes is what this community wanted, you'd see threads similar to your own crop up more often. Fortunately they do not, and why the ones you start are even allowed to continue I'll never know. For all your self assured importance, you might consider acting normal for once, and perhaps try to justify the high opinion you've touted for yourself. Just a thought. -RW |
| Warning02-27-08, 11:13 AM | It takes 2 to argue my friend. If you'd just leave the topic alone, it would cease to exist. I do not reply to myself. And what say you that I am not a drizzt fan? Maybe a change of heart? |
| Red_Wizard02-27-08, 11:42 AM | I am in no way denying that it takes two to do the proverbial tango. I simply know that from past experiences, leaving you to your wiles doesn't put an end to the problem. Some see fit to ignore you, and yet you clutter the board with your less than creative writings all the same. The WizO's don't really seem to care whether or not you are an issue, just so long as you don't consistently and blatantly violate a rarely referenced, and poorly enforced CoC. Thus It leaves you and me to banter back an forth, in topics often not worth mentioning, if only to a stalemate that sees the thread fade into nothingness in a week or two. When you try to be a part of the community, you almost pass as a decent member, albeit it a stubbornly uninterested one. However, you then suddenly and drastically pull a 180 and run off screaming on some poorly thought out tangent about how you are irrefutably correct in all regards to a system you have admittedly never taken the time to so much as glance at. You bash everything you don't understand, and mock what little is explained to you, simply because you don't care to take the time to look into what is being said and formulate any intelligent retort. I think that you were either warned by the WizO's to stop the flaming elsewhere, or simply became bored with the "I hate Drow, they are all Homosexuals and should die" tangent, and opted instead to play the opposite extreme of being fanatically in love with Drizzt and Co. This most likely comes as a further system of mockery towards the community for how you perceive those who defend him to be. Is it psychologically impossible for you to approach anything with a level and open mind? Has mommy kept you locked in the basement for so long that this is the only sad little niche of reality you can draw some pleasure from? You evidently can't have much of a life if this is how you pass your free time. You're not here supporting the game, so thus the pleasure can not be derived from that, yet you are here far too often to simply be some socially accepted jock prick out to have a few laughs. So where does that leave us then? Will you try and mature past the self projected age of two, or shall we continue our verbal dance for the months to come? -RW |

But, i do have to disagree with you about Drizzt's stats. As I've said before, the game's mechanical information in the FRCS is incorrect. Many feats, skills, spell, class abilities, weapon properties, etc... have been retcon'd and thus, inaccurate. Drizzt's write-up in the FRCS is no more correct (mechanics wise) now than his write up in 2nd or even 1st ed. -And if this is some grossly sarcastic thread with no intention of the OP caring what any of us actually think....I have to ask why? It does seem a bit much and over the top just to get a few laughs. |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit02-29-08, 06:59 PM | Bravo, Red Wizard, Bravo. (You wouldn't happen to be a prestigous member of Faerun RP by the same name?) And you will always see them fibbing on NPC stats from books, if you wish to compare stories and source books then you will be rereading novels, and gaming books for quiet some time. For further argumenting and witty banter on the never ending subjuct try the thread "Are Drizzt's stats correct?", you will find a dangerous playground, on which you can easly cut yourself. And yes sadly, I agree that Drizzt's, Artimis's, Wulfgar's, Regis's, Brunor's, and the rest will never be fully put pin to paper, with out completely breaking the rules. That's why people have so much fun trying their hardest to do just this. |
| Kenzuki03-01-08, 07:08 PM | Artemis and Drizzt's stats in the campaign setting don't seem to take into account their recent adventures. Artemis doesn't even have Charon's Claw for pete's sakes. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin03-01-08, 10:10 PM | Artemis and Drizzt's stats in the campaign setting don't seem to take into account their recent adventures. That's because the stats were written before said adventures. |
| Lord Karsus03-02-08, 12:38 AM | -That's when you change pivotal things that take place in the past, even though more recently lore (in terms of game years) exists...My main problem with Salvatore. |
| Diffan03-02-08, 03:35 AM | -That's when you change pivotal things that take place in the past, even though more recently lore (in terms of game years) exists...My main problem with Salvatore. The only problems are that of game mechanics. Drizzt is posted with said items from the FRCS, yet Canon states that his items have changed before that by RA's novels. I for one, am a firm believer that the flavor information stated by the FRCS is correct while the game mechanics are wrong. Drizzt no longer has Intiut Directon, Wilderness lore, Ambidexterity, 5d10 hd from the ranger class, etc. Because a newer edition has been released, alterations to characters must be factored in. Other characters such as Eliminster are incorrect as well, as are many others who's classes, feats, skills have been changed from 3 to 3.5. It's not the problem of the author, but of the design teams urge to use posted (inaccurate) information of characters in source books and making said stats Canon. |

I don't care about mechanics. -By having his novels take place in the past, and altering events in the FRCS, it creates a continuity problem. Novels that take place in the past, but do not alter the present, great. The Star of Cursrah is one of my favorite Forgotten Realms novels. It takes place in the past. The events that take place in the past do not comprimise the continuity of the present. A thriving Orc Kingdom in the north does comprimise continuity, as no Forgotten Realms sourcebooks, all of which are set after the events of the Hunter's Blade Trilogy, take this into account. The FRCS says nothing about an Orc Kingdom in 1372 DR, and even makes mention of how King Obould Many-Arrows is preparing invading the North (I believe Silver Marches also makes reference to this). An Orc Kingdom, as well as a recently war ravaged north drastically alters the political make-up of the area. And yet, because the novels took place in the past, and were irresponsible in regards to the timeline, we end up with this. |
| runestar03-02-08, 09:04 AM | That's because the stats were written before said adventures. That and the designers only had the core classes to work with. :( |

From reading the entry of Obould in the FRCS and some info from Silver Marches is doesn't specifically mention the orc kingdom. But nor does it dispute the fact that there could be one there. Just because it isn't written, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist or isn't presently happening while said book is being written. Take for example the novel "Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor". Those events actually happened by the Canon laws, yet NO where in any source book or Grand History of the Realms does it mention those events took place. It was such an event that even Elminster was involved (to a point) and the city was saved from the ravages of The Cult of the Dragon which attempted to twist the mythal and drain people of their vitality from off-shoot pools such as that in Phlan. It was an event that affected multipul cities and probably the lives of famous NPCs, yet we get nothing. This of course is just one instance, but you get my point. Besides, I didn't think the continunity was all that messed up with The North, given the vague description of it in the FRCS and Silver Marches. |

By the retroactive canon in the Hunter's Blade trilogy, he already has an Orc kingdom at this point. Nitpicky? Sure. But, I like internal consistency, and setting a novel in the past, and then changing elements of what the setting was like in the past, altering the present as well does not make for good consistency. Take for example the novel "Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor". Those events actually happened by the Canon laws, yet NO where in any source book or Grand History of the Realms does it mention those events took place. It's not like...Myth Drannor blew up, or something to that effect. Besides, I didn't think the continunity was all that messed up with The North, given the vague description of it in the FRCS and Silver Marches. -No, it was not messed up very much, but as I said, there shouldn't have been any 'messing up' to begin with. |
| Red_Wizard03-03-08, 11:34 AM | Unfortunately, I have to disagree Karsus. After the whole Hunters Blade debacle followed by "The Orc King", I went back to the FRCS as I couldn't figure out why they would make so drastic a change after the establish Canon on the fact. Assuming I'd find some glaring evidence against the trilogy, I was pleasantly amused to find that it was not a refuted event afterall. However, after reading the FRCS again, there are several subtle hints there that support in full the novels, and while the kingdom doesn't get a write up specifically, the Campaign Setting doesn't deny it's existence either. At one point, it even makes mention that Obould is now trying to decide how to divide up his Kingdom for his sons. Also, his entry is filed under the silver marches section, which if he was not there might make him a might out of place. Though overall I agree that none of the presented stats properly reflect the novels. It hasn't been until recently that there has even but much effort to do so, and it is the Authors themselves that have done the best write ups. This said, if the books will be countered anywhere, it is in the Silver Marches supplement, though I'll admit I haven't checked this yet. -RW |

It, however, was not written with an Orc Kingdom in the area in mind. The war drastically altered the politics of the area. Nesme was ravaged by trolls. Nothing is mentioned of that. Large chunks of Mithral Hall blew up. Nothing is mentioned of that. Silverymoon lost various divisions of troops and such. Nothing is mentioned of that. Many of the Dwarven Citadels in the area were drastically changed. Nothing is mentioned of that. Like I said to Diffan, I am nitpicking. But, I shouldn't have to nitpick. There shouldn't be any problems. At one point, it even makes mention that Obould is now trying to decide how to divide up his Kingdom for his sons. Also, his entry is filed under the silver marches section, which if he was not there might make him a might out of place. -Before he invaded the North in the Hunter's Blade trilogy, Obould was already the leader of his Orcish settlement. This said, if the books will be countered anywhere, it is in the Silver Marches supplement, though I'll admit I haven't checked this yet. -I don't have that book. I do not believe that there is anything that confirms or denies it's existence, either. |
| Red_Wizard03-03-08, 04:17 PM | I agree that certain things should have been considered beforehand, but my point was more that they didn't contradict themselves as often happens, even having some of the material support the changes. Also, the small hints there could be taken in light of the recent books to be concerning them, thus one doesn't have to nit pick as much. ;) -RW |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin03-03-08, 04:31 PM | If anything, I think the Silver Marches book (which I do own) would make the later Drizzt novel events seem even more "out of whack" with the official timeline. |

Granted, it's been awhile since I looked at the book, but I could have sworn it went on and on about how Obould and his orcs are a threat to the peace and safety of the Silver Marches. Also, in that supplement, I recall Obould's stronghold being Darkarrow Keep, not the new city or whatever that he was building. And of course, all this takes place after the events of the Orc King. Whether or not it's "glaring" is of course a matter of perspective, I guess. |
| Lord Karsus03-03-08, 06:01 PM | Whether or not it's "glaring" is of course a matter of perspective, I guess. -Admittedly, none of it is glaring, in the sense that the books and the sourcebooks do not reconcile at all. But, as I've said, there shouldn't be any problems to begin with. |
| Andferne03-04-08, 12:46 AM | Silver Marches states some of the following. Take it as you will. 1) From his fortress Obould carefully gathers his strength for his new task. The unification of the orcs of the mountains under his banner. It talks about a horde building up and how he is waiting for it to shatter before he sends his army in. He not only wants to retake the Citidel, but Silverymoon as well. 2) Theres talk about Gerti sending giants and her pet white dragon(Rynnarvyx) into the Evermoors. They have ran the trolls out and had them terrorize the lands beyond. 3) Nesme was the hardest hit by the trolls flight. 4) 1368 Nesme report dramtic rise in troll attacks. Evermoor and Harpell raod becomes too dangerous to travel on. 5) 1369 Giants appear in numbers on the Evermoors and assualt Nesme battering the city. 6) 1371 Battles with Trolls and Orcs are many Thats a brief lookover of info in there. |

All of the said above information probably won't persuade LK's ideas that the FRCS wasn't written with RA's new novels in mind. That is a continunity problem within that source book (however small) and whether or not it's RA's fault or not is totally his opinion. I've just come to the conclusion that we both agree to disagree. Does it impact all of The North is the main question. I believe not, unless your campaign/setting take place in the (relatively) small area of Obould's kingdom or Mithral Hall. |

It's nip-picking to be sure, and i've come to just agree to disagree. I don't see a problem with RA's writings and find them highly enjoyable and if they mess slightly with continunity from out-dated source books, so be it. :) |
| Andferne03-08-08, 04:45 PM | Keep in mind the stuff I posted was not to sway anyone to either side. It was just info that could/can be found in the Silver Marches book. Take it as you will and do what you will. I remember reading something a long time ago that said Salvatore went through some notes of the FRCS to help get ideas for his new books. He went to writting and we got our first glimpse of Obould in the novels, which was taken from the FRCS. Meaning he did gimplse through and read the stuff/notes given to him before he wrote that first book. Now I do not remember where I read/heard this, but I do know I read it somewhere. As I can't prove it you only have my word to go on about that. |
| Warning03-08-08, 08:11 PM | All of you seem to have the wrong impression. Why? I can not say. All though I am indeed straight, I'd have to say that if Drizzt were real, that very well may change. I mean c'mon people, purple skin hero with a cape? Just typing this is getting me excited. Too bad they're aren't any Red Wizard heros out there, because they are for the most part evil like Drow, I can safely say Drizzt is uniqe for being a good hearted talented swordsman that does not follow his bretherens faulty ways. Maybe I can talk to a WizO and persuade them for a Drizzt section on the forums. Anyone dare to join this amazing quest of mine to bring Drizzt further into glory? I wish all authors would just write sub novels for Drizzt under Mr.Salvantore. ED Greenwoods Elminster is fine, but honestly, can he compare? PS. Bad guys, beware! Drizzt is on the hunt for rightousness! Behold the power of justice!! |

| creyzi4zb1203-20-08, 11:08 AM | Okay, Obould has no upcoming scheme, he has gone out of Gruumsh's path. It was stated in the book "The Orc King" plenty of times that Obould and Gruumsh's ways are very different. I mean, comeon, it's been 6 Obouldian generations already, and the peace is still good (cept for some human and dwarven rebels trying to kill the orcs, and orcs trying to kill each other.) Whoever stated that fact that Bruenor is gonna get killed by one of Obould's sons has no proof. Why would Obould kill Bruenor anyway? If he does that, then it'd ignite an all out war against Mithril Hall and Dark Arrow Keep. And nobody, not even Elminster himself can stop the vendetta. So no, Obould the sixth doesn't have any upcoming schemes (he even tried to marry a human woman to strengthen up the allegiance.) You all read how it was written. Did RAS mention a single thing about Obould the sixth being sly and cunning in igniting a war? NO he doesn't, because he is more intelligent than that, he believes that for the orcs of DarkArrow to survive they must abandon their war like ways in the Mithril Hall, it was stated in the book that Obould didn't care if his army would multiply and could beat Mithril Hall or Silverymoon, he knew that even if he won that kind of war they would still perish. So that's why he's keeping things against the kingdoms cool FOREVER. And yeah, I think Drizzt's stats seem a bit unfair. But the most unfair stats of all is Obould's...what was his stats again? |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin03-20-08, 11:16 AM | Okay, Obould has no upcoming scheme, he has gone out of Gruumsh's path. It was stated in the book "The Orc King" plenty of times that Obould and Gruumsh's ways are very different. I'm not entirely convinced of that. Obould's methods and desires might be different, but he is still a very brutish individual. He's not the saint that people sometimes appear to be making him out as. |
| creyzi4zb1203-21-08, 03:37 AM | He's not a saint, he's a brutal and intelligent ruler who keeps his people in line that they may not be stupid enough to ignite war. He knows the consequences of war like how a king should think. How could 6 generations of peace between Kingdoms be created by cunning plans of an exexexexexex-ruler? Not even the elves or Netherese were able to do such a thing. COme to think of it, Bruenor's actions against the treaty of Gaurum's Gorge are FAR MORE AGGRESIVE and SUSPICIOUS than Obould's. It believe it was mentioned in the book "Orc King" where Drizzt sided with Obould instead of Bruenor. |
| Lord Karsus03-21-08, 11:08 PM | -Here we go with Salvatore "preaching", again, it seems. Haven't read the book, yet... And nobody, not even Elminster himself can stop the vendetta. -Sure he can. Charm on you, Charm on you, bada bing, bada boom. But the most unfair stats of all is Obould's...what was his stats again? -As per 1372 DR, he was something like a Fighter 9. I see no problems with that. |

Although I have no idea what the heck an "exexexexexex-ruler" is. I thought Bruenor was being perfectly pragmatic. There's a reason why he's the king, and not Drizzt. |
| ArchmageMorgoloth03-28-08, 11:18 AM | -Here we go with Salvatore "preaching", again, it seems. Haven't read the book, yet... -Sure he can. Charm on you, Charm on you, bada bing, bada boom. -As per 1372 DR, he was something like a Fighter 9. I see no problems with that. I don't know if I can agree with that. If we're going by FRCS Drizzt, then Obould should be around level 20 (maybe being Obould's Chosen gave him some much needed levels or something) due to a few things: He bowled over Gerti like it was nothing. Not a "Oh, haha, that was close" kind of encounter. I mean he parried her blade, then threw her up in the air, and was about to coup de grace her. Before her guards could even draw their own weapons. Hell, before his orcs could probably pick their jaws up from the floor. Then there are his battles with Drizzt. The first time the drow saw him, he admitted to himself that he wouldn't have wanted to fight Obould, even if the battlefield was level. The second time they met up, Drizzt's attacks could penetrate his armor (so I'm assuming Obould's AC at the time was pretty damn high) and forced the dark elf to run away. Yes, Drizzt had to run away. The third and final time they fought was the more important one. Drizzt used an exploding crossbow bolt full with Oil of Impact, Cattie Brie's blade Cutter, AND had interference from that drow priestess who made Obould lose his precious armor. And STILL Obould was battling him on even footing, and in my honest opinion, would have eventually won out due to a tiring Drizzt, who would not have the stamina that the orc king seems to have. So.. I don't think 9 levels of Fighter or Barbarian, not sure which he had, due the novel Obould any justice. Oh, and a little side note.. I lost a little respect for Drizzt when he whined about Obould having that armor on. So.. Drizzt, it's okay for you, when fighting a random goblin, to have on this wonderful mithril armor, with your little Anklets of Haste, and your highly enchanted weapons.. but when you come across with someone who has better magical items, you resort to whining? Weak. |
| Lord Karsus03-28-08, 11:23 AM | I don't know if I can agree with that... -As Rino just said, he was able to do all of that via author fiat. Salvatore wanted him to be able to do all of that, so he did. Salvatore notoriously doesn't follow D&D rules. On one side, he is allowed to embellish all he wants. These are his stories, after all, and he is the author. Novels =/= sourcebooks. On the other hand, this is a share D&D setting. |

The FRCS discussion above is stating if things have been omitted (in part because these novels came out afterwards), so perhaps the Obould shown there is not represeting the latest Obould, who seems to be a Chosen of Gruumsh. Thus the level differences and the sort? Eh, I still like this Obould. Finally someone to put a dent in Drizzt's "I am the One Drow to cut them all" legend. It's not that I hate Drizzt or anything, it's just nice to see someone else except Artemis able to stand up (and in my opinion, beat) the drow. :) |
| ArchmageMorgoloth03-28-08, 03:01 PM | Bravo, Red Wizard, Bravo. (You wouldn't happen to be a prestigous member of Faerun RP by the same name?) Sorry to go on a side tangent but this completely took my attention as I was perusing the thread again.. did someone say a Faerun RP? :O!! |
| creyzi4zb1203-29-08, 12:27 AM | it sounds suspicious when Obould get hit by lightning, by fireball, by exploding bolt, by earthquake, by spider thingy and still get no damage. but he just level 9. |

Thus the level differences and the sort? -That is presupposing that Obould is/was a Chosen of Gruumsh. I do not believe he ever was, as what Obould espouses is a far cry from what Gruumsh espouses. In fact, they are almost diametrically opposed to each other. That said, why would Gruumsh make Obould his Chosen? it sounds suspicious when Obould get hit by lightning, by fireball, by exploding bolt, by earthquake, by spider thingy and still get no damage. but he just level 9. -Indeed. And, this is why it poses a two-fold problem when authors ignore the D&D aspect of things. But, at the same time, this is HIS novel, with HIS characters, HIS writing style, HIS story, and so on... |
| Zanan03-29-08, 05:04 AM | A couple of points ... I - Even in the FRCS the scimitar-wielder is already ECL 18, i.e. anything below CR 11 will not give him any XP whatsoever. Now, how many Orc warriors 12+ might be out there? (Not that I have a clue what he did in those novels.) II - Just bide your time and wait for the FRCS 4E, since I very much expect that the scimitar-wielder will get a write-up in there and given that the level cap is now in the 30s, he will jump into the 20s and be oh-so cool. |
| creyzi4zb1203-29-08, 06:39 AM | Yeah, DnD should adjust their stats to RAS works. |
| Zanan03-29-08, 10:46 AM | Yeah, DnD should adjust their stats to RAS works. See, this is sarcasm for you! :D |
| creyzi4zb1203-29-08, 11:25 AM | :D :D :D!! |
| Lord Karsus03-29-08, 11:34 AM | Yeah, DnD should adjust their stats to RAS works. -Awesome idea! :P |

| Lord Karsus03-29-08, 02:30 PM | I know but still.... :nonono: -Eh, leave creyzi be. She's crazy, you know. |
| Ody_Saraph_of_Karsus03-29-08, 02:40 PM | I Know, and a loveble one at that :) |
| Warning04-01-08, 12:34 AM | STOP! Drizzt is not an ally of these orcs. And if your not on drizzt side, then you're on the wrong side. Looks like I got here just in time to stop the blastphemy. No more off topics that don't involve Drizzt, our lord and savior. |
| Red_Wizard04-01-08, 11:04 AM | *Sigh* You love Drizzt so much now, and have suddenly bought his books for wall mounting, so why is it that you seem to be in the dark on his acceptance of Orcs, and perhaps even friendship with them? -RW |
| creyzi4zb1204-01-08, 01:48 PM | I think the main reason why Drizzt sides with orcs is becoz Dark Arrow isn't doing anything bad RIGHT NOW. He doesn't mind about the past like how he doesn't mind about his past. But as for the reason why he sides with Obould's stand more instead of Bruenor is still a question. Even I was confused why he would choose the orcs over Bruenor. |
| Warning04-02-08, 06:47 PM | *Sigh* You love Drizzt so much now, and have suddenly bought his books for wall mounting, so why is it that you seem to be in the dark on his acceptance of Orcs, and perhaps even friendship with them? -RW Does Drizzt like the orcs? If so, I rebuke my previous statment with a full hearted apology, not to you guys though. To our lord and savior Drizzt Do'Urden. |
| Red_Wizard04-04-08, 09:15 PM | If you were here and joking with us, I'd have no qualms with what you write. But that isn't the case. You're all over the place emotionally. Sometimes being polite and friendly, other times just here to pick fights. It's evident you don't take this seriously, but that doesn't necessarily make it a good thing in your case. Regardless, I am not going to get into this again. I will only point out that my job allows me to be online all day, thus I have the freedom to post when and how I want. -RW |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit04-04-08, 10:21 PM | that not only stepped over the line, and put a very unpleasent image in my head, but was unable to fufill the preset requirements. He wouldn't be online all day if he went to school. And that wouldn't even really be classified as a job. ps. Locking this thread wouldnt be a bad Idean now. Though the nitpicking would just head to another part of the community, maybe it would simer down by then. |
