The lore is still there, but the geographic location of the kingdom got messed up when the FR map was "shrunken" and edited for 3E.

It just doesn't appear on the map, and there's no 3rd edition lore that I'm aware of, is there?

Well, there's a 3E novel that takes place in that area--Master of Chains.:) The kingdom is supposed to be directly to the east of Tethyr, but as I said the 3E map screwed the place up anyway.

It didn't really, just put a few hills there=) I scaled the map from 2nd ed's Lands of Intrigue into 3rd, worked pretty well! Just thought it weird that Tethyr losing it wasn't mentioned, it was 1/3 of Tethyr!

What happens in Master of Chains? Who's it about?

You're welcome.:) I don't have time to talk about the novel right this second, sorry.

Master of Chains is a standalone novel in The Fighter series.

Don't read Faerūnian novels much, elaborate?

-It's a self-contained novel, in the Fighters series, which is composed of four stand-alone novels that highlight different Fighters and Fighter PrCs in the Realms.

-Markus Tay has cleared up a lot of the 'messed up' aspect of the maps of the region, and I suggest you check them out.

Does anyone know what happened to Erlkazar in 3rd Edition? Did it just... dissapear? It was one of the "realms" to experience changes in location between editions. When WotC revised the map, they basically removed most of Erlkazar. I'll let Steven Schend explain -

"Re: places: a novel free zone erlkazar
No, it's still there, whether or not it gets acknowledged on the map or in the Lands of Intrigue listing in the FRCS.
At least it's still there in my mind. They just crunched it all into smaller space (and I wasn't around or paying attention when they did this with the main maps of Faerun, so I don't even know the logic or explanation behind the changes).
Just remember that world maps for our own world changed multitudinous times over the centuries, so I'd say use whatever maps make you happiest with the Realms and be done with the rest.
Steven It is never too late to be what you might have been. (George Elliot/Mary Ann Evans)

Chalk it up to Sembian mapmakers or something to overlook their existence, that's all."

Master of Chains, by Jess Lebow, specifically focuses on the Barony of Ahlarkhem in Erlkazar.

And Steven Schend's still got plenty to say about his creation if ever given the opportunity by WotC, or another FR designer who will use some of Steven's lore.

As for the plot of the novel itself--I enjoyed it. You can get a plot synopsis from Amazon.com, I'm sure, but it's about a rebel farmer who winds up being enslaved. At the same time, it has some nice romantic complications in it. The book has been likened to a soap opera, but in this case that's not a bad thing--it means the book is never boring.:)

Erlkazar is the region the novel Obsidian Ridge (http://www.amazon.com/Obsidian-Ridge-Citadels-Jess-Lebow/dp/0786947853) takes place in, which hasn't even been released yet, so it is definately still there.

Or you can just go rent the movie Krull.

Anyhow, my original 3e Erlkazar Map (http://candlekeep.com/images/sitegfx/mt-erlkazar.jpg) is available over in the Candlekeep Maproom (http://candlekeep.com/library/maps.htm#TorilMaps), while I'm currently working on a newer, higher-resolution one.

The new one has better-placed locations (IMNSHO) and details, but I still haven't added everything in that was on the original.

The new Erlkazar WIP (http://markustay.deviantart.com/art/Erlkazar-WIP-74085416)

Notice that Erlkazar has more 'open area' now, as per the original sources - I removed some of the hilly clutter and refined things a bit.

Thank You - most of them I don't actually 'make', so much as nudge stuff around and add-in all of the local details. ;)

The map's amazing! What's the scale btw? Same as the FRCS?Should be the same - I don't believe I re-sized it from my world map.

I'll throw a scale on it and polish it off later. :D
