| Bookwyrm07-30-07, 10:58 PM | Hey all, I'm looking to run the next few stages of my campaign in an necropolis/city of the dead/Valley of the Kings area of the Realms. Or even something like the Valley of the Dark/Sith Lords in the "Knights of the Old Republic" PC games for STAR WARS. Are there any specifically detailed necropolis-styled areas in the lore? I can vaguely recall a few, but I don't have any hard notes on where they've been detailed, so I'm asking for a little assistance here. I appreciate any and all assistance in this matter. |

| Delendir07-31-07, 02:48 AM | How about the ruins of Shoonach? There's information about it in the Lost Empires of Faerūn and to my knowledge, it's filled with various types of undead and evil humanoids. According to Magic of Faerūn, the arcane wards, which apparently constitute to something like a mythal, prevent the undead from leaving and they also prevent divine necromantic spells from working. |
| Lord Karsus07-31-07, 08:33 AM | -The ruins of Myth Rhynn could qualify as a necropolis. |
| Boda07-31-07, 11:31 AM | Also the ruins of Memnoar, across the river from Memnon(calimshan), the first and second necropolis of Nykkar in the marching mountains(calimshan), island of memory(shinning sea), and i could bet that somewhere on the grounds of former empires there's one necropolis or another. |

In Thay, there is both Thazalhar and the ruins of Delhumide. There's the swamp of Akhlaur in Halruaa. There's the place where the battle of bones occurred. There's the ruins of Eltabrannar where the Knights of Myrkul once held a kingdom with the aid of Eltab (its capital was Shaundalar which is in the shaar). This one wouldn't be so much of a necropolis, but the citadel of conjurers in Impiltur has numerous abyssal link |

Also, while not strictly the Realms [and, as I recall, you are a RAVENLOFT fan], I would recommend looking over the entry for the Darklord Death's Necropolis in Gazetteer Vol. 2. With some slight adaptations, you should be able to find a place for it in some of the less populous reaches of the Realms. Any environment similar to that of Darkon would be appropriate. |
| 1 ton ghost08-01-07, 01:14 AM | the Barrow fields (dalelands), Battle of the Bones, the City of the Dead in Waterdeep, any Thayan metropolis (Jergal is having a revival there), etc. graveyard terrain was spelled out pretty good in Heroes of Horror; scary as Hell, every tombstone is cover, that and fog and/or darkess provides a million chances to Hide/Move Silent, impeded movement, plus it's much easier to map in that there are defineable edges and so on where as a forest just kinda' "keeps going" off the grid, etc. consider Mobs from DMG II, they have stipulations for undead ones too in it, think night of the living dead hordes. |
