| Mad Mage08-08-07, 08:24 PM | Here's what I came up with in the Class Chronicles thread. Mr. Bernstein thought they sounded plausible, so here we go. - Rilkan & Skarn: A long-ago experiment (with both breeding and magic) amongst one of the mighty reptilian races, likely Yuan-ti, who also experimented with Incarnum. Often do their best to disguise their distinguishing features to pass as full-blooded humans. Most common regions of existence include the Lake of Steam, Tashalar, the Vilhon Reach, and the Western Heartlands. Granted, I've yet to read Serpent Kingdoms, but that's a start. In addition... - Duskling: Fey native to the House of Nature, where the wild nature of the plane holds a significant stream of Incarnum that only they've been able to tap. - Azurin: Humans that are rare cases where they are infused with Incarnum via tears in the Weave. Often, this happens with women who are exposed while they are pregnant, and give birth to Azurin children because of this. Most common causes for Incarnum infusion are the Fall of Netheril or the Time of Troubles. Can be found in almost any human region, and usually take regional feats from their host ethnicity. An additional idea of mine: Dusklings often make small settlements in places in Faerun connected to the House of Nature, such as the Gulthmere Forest on the Dragon Coast. They do interact somewhat with the natives, but often keep to their own kind due to differences in lifestyle and abilities. |
| Bonzai08-09-07, 04:25 PM | I have been introducing Incarnum into the realms in my latest campaign. I haven't done the Skarn or Rikalan yet, but I have Azurians arising from human settlements near places where incarnum runs strong. Dusklings, being fey, I have as an offshoot of the Fey Creator races. |

Putting them anywhere with a strong fey connection fits, as does putting them places with strong druidic presences. The Azurins, much like all these "odd human genome specifically created for this book" races that we're seeing could also easily fit in. Personally, I'd leave them out just to make life simpler and include other "human" like races like the Illumians that have more depth. If I were to include them as a sub race of humans, it wouldn't be random, it would be bred true and they'd have a group found in a certain section of the realms (which there is the Temple of the Sapphire Eidolon in the Uthangol Mountains in the Shaar). Your take on the Rilkan and Skarn make a lot of sense, since they look human for the most part but are labeled Reptilian. I'd definitely make it a creation caused by magical experimentation. However, I'd make them be another race created by the Sarrukh, much as how the Sarrukh created the yuan-ti and nagas (both of which are reptiles with a leaning of sorts towards a human form). I see perhaps these two races being highly favored by the Sarrukh, and jealousy from the nagas and yuan-ti caused them to be decimated. |
