I'm adapting 'The Champion's Belt' form the Age of Worms adventure path to the Forgotten Realms. The adventure evolves around a prestigious championship in Waterdeep's arena in which 24 teams compete.

I thought it would be nice to have at least half of these teams be representatives of the most important arenas around the realms, so my question is, in which cities or states in Faerūn can we find important arenas?

I'll start the list with some of the places I know:

Waterdeep (the North)
Hillsfar (Moonsea)
Westgate (Sea of Fallen Stars)

-Multiple gladitorial arenas can be found in Thay. I am betting that Chessenta has one or two, as well.

The cities of the Vilhon Reach have a few, some run by lizard-folk, such as the one in Surkh.

In Chondath:
Reth: Northshire Coliseum

In Chessenta and Threskel:
Mourktar: The Amphitheatre of the First Thunder, dedicated to Hoar/Assuran
Cimbar: the Coliseum

Other cities in Chondath and Chessenta likely all have gladiator arenas, but don't have canon names.

I also imagine there'd be some in Unther.

Unther capital city had a major arena where Gilgeam use to personal wrestle/execute people, and Nebussedar his champion always fought there, it should be the largest arena in the entire south, not sure if the ToT battle between Tiamat and Gilgeam destroyed the place

I imagine alot of the nations, city states northwest of Unther along the coast also have areans as well as Mulhorand

here's a list of my dirty dozen local tough guys from those areas who might love to fight in a arena, I placed them in my odds on favorite order...

Southern Dream Team - Hamesetis, Shurruppak, Hippartes, Nebuseddar, Furifax, Sorn, Naeros, Stimules, Helcaunt, Gudea, Sanuet, Helyos...

As for a few references to arenas in the Realms...

The Arena of Blood is mentioned in the 2e Lands of Intrigue boxed set (available for free download here at WotC). It is located in the city of Manshaka in Calimshan. Empires of the Shining Sea provides more specific details on the Arena.

The Westgate Arena -- FRCS.

A gladiatorial arena in Surkh.

Hillsfar Arena -- home to the famed fighter "Taurus."

There are arenas in several illithid enclaves in the Underdark -- particularly Oryndoll.

There are arenas in various locales throughout the Old Empires region.

In Menzoberranzan.

In Tantras there's an arena at the Dark Harvest. I want to say it's an inn or tavern that poses as a front to the arena, but I'm too lazy to read all of Tantras (Avatar Tril) to verify that.

-If you want to count Neverwinter Nights as canon (that is, the buildings, people, and such, and not the storyline), then there is also that underground areana that you can have your character fight in.

Zhentil Keep had one before its destruction by the forces of Cyric....They used it to execute some prisonners....Dont know if its still up though.....They probably built another one anyways.
