| Suin Bahhar11-01-07, 08:53 AM | What hails have you used as the common way to greet an other? I've used: Hello Hail Warm winds and hello Bessed Be What have you used on departure? Me: Aluvé Bye Adieu Sweet water |
| Stigger11-01-07, 09:39 AM | "Well met", and its variations as I found it as a commonly used theme throughout most of the Volo's guides, which act as my guides to casual sociology for the Realms. |

| Blibbering_Humdinger11-01-07, 11:12 AM | "Hi" and "bye" for me. The latter usually when I kill someone. |
| MarkusTay6311-01-07, 11:38 AM | Hello: Word-up Goodbye: Peace Out My Realms is Ghetto, naw mean? ;) |
| Stigger11-01-07, 05:03 PM | That must be interesting for the Bards... |
| Zanan11-01-07, 05:34 PM | What hails have you used as the common way to greet an other? I've used: Aluvé Neat but ... this is actually Drow (pronounced: Ah-LOO-ve)* and means "I/we leave you". A correct "hello" in Drow would be "Vendui!", though I actually have to dig deep to check whether that one is canon too. *This and some other Greetings and Farewells appeared in the Old Grey Box' Cyclopedia of the Realms. |
| Karsus the Mad11-01-07, 05:42 PM | Hello: *dominate monster* Goodbye: *power word: kill* |
| Old Sage11-01-07, 07:52 PM | You'll find Ed's offered more than a few creative "hails" in his replies over at Candlekeep. |
| 18DELTA11-01-07, 08:19 PM | That must be interesting for the Bards... What up Homie? Peace out G!!!:D |
| Suin Bahhar11-02-07, 09:13 AM | Neat but ... this is actually Drow (pronounced: Ah-LOO-ve)* and means "I/we leave you". A correct "hello" in Drow would be "Vendui!", though I actually have to dig deep to check whether that one is canon too. *This and some other Greetings and Farewells appeared in the Old Grey Box' Cyclopedia of the Realms.Ah, I thought I was speaking elven :embarrass So Vendui is a correct way to adress a drow without getting a knife in the eye as an answer? Much thanks. Aluvé. Great way of saying goodbye for drow if it means "I leave you", very aloof. What are the original elven greetings? What about Orcs? Grr! Goblins? Maglubiyet's favor! Gnomes and dwarves? :D Aye, Laddie! |
| Zanan11-02-07, 12:04 PM | Some from the said source: "Well met" - most often heard / usually between strangers "Until swords part" - warriors' farewell throughout the Realms Olore' (Oh-LOR-ay) "Well met"/"Good day" - travellers in the Inner Sea lands "Alavairthae!" (Al-ah-VARE-thay) "May your skill prevail!" Farewell by the Red Wizards "Sweet water and light laughter until next" - The People (Elves) "Axe high, friend. I go!" - Dwarven farewell "Forges warm, friend" - Gnomish farewell "Braeunk vhos trolkh!" - "If you die while I am gone, do it quietly!" - Hobgoblin farewell, with an unsaid addendum: "... because I wouldn't want to miss the fun!" |
| MarkusTay6311-02-07, 12:35 PM | That must be interesting for the Bards...I was actually thinking of creating a Netherese bard from that returned city... named 'Slim Shadey'. ;) And then, of course, we have the HWA - 'Halflings with Attitudes'. an Fifty Pence.... Arrrgh... I need to stop.... |
| Alrunic Silverfyre11-02-07, 02:05 PM | Bad, Markus! Bad! Just as long as we don't get the "Seven Soul Sisterz", I'm good. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-02-07, 02:12 PM | Stop it guys! |
| Stigger11-02-07, 05:38 PM | One does wonder what the dwarven percussion sections are like... |

Ah this will spice up my game considerably! Braeunk vhos trolkh! Brilliant!Much thanks, Zanan. All my halfers in the place!~Say Yayo~To my stunties on the street.~Say Yeah!~ Watch out for my magic mizzle! :P |
| MarkusTay6311-03-07, 08:43 PM | And let us not forget the most excellent Fantasy Greeting of all time - "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." Of course, its only useable in certain circumstances. ;) |
| Lord Karsus11-03-07, 10:33 PM | -Traditional Elven greetings: "Fair be our meeting, for our hearts are light and our swords sheathed, we hold peace in our hands and its light guides us." "Glad Homeagain." -Traditional Elven departures: "Sweet Water and Light Laughter." "May You See Evermeet." |
| MarkusTay6311-03-07, 11:52 PM | -"May You See Evermeet."To a Drow, thats the same as saying "see you in Hell". :P |
| Suin Bahhar11-04-07, 09:12 AM | See you in the 3th layer of hello. *snickers* |
| GothicDan11-04-07, 09:16 AM | Evermeet is a good place to be. |
| Suin Bahhar11-04-07, 09:44 AM | "Glad Homeagain." I like this one. Evermeet is beautiful. |
| captaincarot11-04-07, 12:58 PM | One does wonder what the dwarven percussion sections are like... quite loud but they only take part in short songs. may (insert name of good aligned god here) watch over you is always a good parting. though for orcs i find a well aimed war axe to be the best form of greeting. |
| Lord Karsus11-04-07, 05:44 PM | "Glad Homeagain." I like this one. -I agree. It's short, it's sweet, and it's poetic. |
| The_Shaman11-04-07, 06:40 PM | I can't help but use a variant of "Blessings be on this house" every now and then in the games I play in ;) |
