| Kaede11-28-07, 11:38 AM | Allright... I'm working on a FR adventure, i've got all the FRD&D manuals but never read the novels... So i'm asking for some help here... This adventure is going to take place in the North and the Sword Coast. As prelude, the players will start in Luskan, and will have to travel north, to Icewind Dale, searching for a NPC that's going to be the great Plot Hook. Then they will have to go to Waterdeep and face a Vampire arising... WELL, let's see... I need to know: 1) How many days takes to travel from Luskan to Icewind Dale? 2) Are there any importan locations in Icewind Dale? The manuals talk about only "ten towns"... I would love for more information. 3) You get to Icewind Dale crossing the Spine of the world, going by the coast... Any information of how to travel would be great. 4) Wich are the monsters you can find in that travel? 5) Any map you can handle of Luskan would be great. Couldn't find any one... And any more information you can handle would be great 6) Wich are the climate features i should use for that travel? Extreme cold, yes, but any advise of how should i thread it would be really nice. 7) Wich are the organizations in the North and Sword Coast I should keep in mind... good, evil, lawfull, chaotic and neutral... 8) And lastly, which are the resent events in the zone? I'm just looking this information to give more depth to this campaign... Thank you all in advance... |

Those should handle all but your 8th question, as they're slightly dated. Can't say I've kept up with the novels, so someone else is probably better suited to answering that last point. |
| Crazygx3411-29-07, 02:34 PM | In savage frontier you can get a map of Luskan. Luskan lay on the edge of Mirar River The arcane brotherhood control the city. All entrance are guarded and all person who don't have business there are forbiden. Luskan:"the city of sails" City of pirate, thief, drug, alchool, black market, prostitute and several tavern. The Host Tower is the true power in Luskan, guild of powerfull evil wizard and sorcerer. Have for goal to conquer the north and the silvermarches. They name themself the Arcane Brother hood. They are directed by the Archmage Arcane , who is a lich and he have a Erinyes for friend. The four over wizard follow him in rank. The over wizard of the North is the more important.Look for The lord of Darkness book it have all the organisations of faerun, you will see by yourself. Its have the five hight pirate who contol the city but the Host Tower lead are the puppeters. How don't know how time it take to travels from luskan to ten town, you have to pass by the Western pass in the Spine of the world. It can have ambush in fall when caravan going to the south. because in winter it almost impossible to pass. It have Yeti, giant, ogre , orc , goblin, bugbeer, winter wolf are all common in the north. But I think Drizzt Do'Urben make it in winter. When you reach The Ten town it have a big 'Pic" mountain the Kelvin Cairn and two or three lake. The ten town lay on the coast of this lake living almost of fishing and trading. East Eaven on the center of its situed on a hill . Protected by a wall it the biggest city in Icewind dale. Barbarian live in Icewind dale too but in tribe far away of ten town. Yes it have some sites of interess .It have Kuldahar a city under a giant tree. In the north it the Sea of Moving ice where the Ice Peak lay. It have entrance to unederdark in a lot of place . You can check the Icewind Dale game 1&2 for some others place like the black raven monastery, fell wood, severed hand, dragon eye cavern ( entrance in some sort of eye of dragon head) For the last event. I just know of the Crystal shard gem in the Drizzt adventure novels where a lot of town are razed by a big attack of goblin, orc and giant lead by a fool wizard with a real powerfull gem named the "cresyindon" not sure of the exact spelling sorry. Finally the map of The Tens Towns http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/870/yacktentownsoh1.th.jpg (http://img508.imageshack.us/my.php?image=yacktentownsoh1.jpg) |
| 1 ton ghost11-29-07, 03:53 PM | i would highly suggest getting a copy of The Silver Marches. especially now, all the game shops, 1/2 Price Books, etc., are being glutted w/ 3/3.5ed stuff in anticipation of the new..."thing". most of your answers could be found therein. very well written, weather system rocks, PrC's are excellent, all around, a rare but good supplement. 1. you'll have to measure a scale to a map, determine slowest PC or mount, check terrain vs. PHB's overland movement, highways/trails/trackless, and if anyone wants to Trailblaze (CompAdventurer); speeds up travel. 2. icewind dale sucks. i mean, cool locale for adventuring, but it's desolate. hence, very small towns. Ice Sea, etc. 3. ship would typically be fastest, though not necessarilly safest (weather). many illuskan longships and raiders abound. cannibalized vikings/celts basically. overland would be hard (probably trackless through mountain [X1/2] or worse). will need some Endure Elements, cold wether outfits, etc. 4. Silver Marches lists monsters by geography which is realistic. hip shoot yeti, white dragons, ice gaunts (frostburn), tough orc tribes, barbarians, etc. 5. again, the book or use FRCS, Silver Marches' map is the best one i've seen 6. gotta' check for weather all the time. wind FX ranged, hail/rain slag Spot/listen/Search and max distance, etc. again, the book... 7. alot of dwarves from mithral hall, tons of orcs under obould, arcane order in luskan, spellguard/knights in silver from silverymoon, ppl of the black blood in the moonwood... 8. nothign monumental very far North save for orc predation. most of the action was in the High Forest w/ the fey'ri and all that jazz. you could cannibalize the dragorage w/ a White in icewindale, but it's very open-ended |
| MarkusTay6311-29-07, 04:58 PM | For a half-way decent map of the north (Silver Marches in particular), you can download the full-size version of the map Here. (http://markustay.deviantart.com/art/Silver-marches-Large-70148696) There is also a four-part printable version in the Candlekeep Maproom. (http://candlekeep.com/library/maps.htm#TorilMaps) It's near the bottom of the page. ;) Unfortunetly, Luskan and Tentowns are cut off on that map. :( |
