I need a little help finding the perfect location for "The Gate of Worlds" in my FR campaign.

In the module, Gates of Firestorm Peak by Bruce Cordell. Its possible that if the main villain Madreus suceeds in using an ancient gate constructed by elder elves that links to the Far Realm a being from these planes of madness could step through.

Since my players failed to stop him in 3e, then in preparation for my future 4e "points of darkness", what id like to do is create a new and large region that over time has been influenced by madness and overrun with abberant monsters. The Duergar have built a relative horde of gibberling and assorted raiders outfitted their forces with Nephelium arms and armor. They use these warriors to sack neighboring realms and have become a power in their own right in this area.

The size of the area that is going to be overrun should be quite large, about a quarter of the size a nation like Cormyr or Sembia takes up for example or the size of a dale or 2. The location can be anywhere thats fitting in the realms.

The module gives the location as southern foothills in the Mountains of Frost in the North and as part of the Shirelands. Id prefer the fit the location to match up the name locations in the module to places already in the realms if possible but am flexible.

Does anyone have have any good suggestions?

While this may not be a perfect geographic fit, I would suggest something around the Raurin desert based on theme alone. The ancient Imaskari empire was all about portals and unfathomable magic and entities from other planes and beyond. Couple that with the LeShay (epic elf-like fey reputedly from another existence or version of the current universe) having a hand in their early history and their potential use and imprisonment of the elder evil known as Pandorym (see the Elder Evils supplement and the novel Darkvision), you have a very strong candidate for the sort of thing this adventure is all about. It helps that Bruce Cordell developed these aspects of Imaskar as well.
