| Green Elven Vampire02-24-08, 02:38 PM | Just wondering... The Winterwood was home to one of the greatest centers of elven High Magic on Faerun, with Moon elves and Copper elves and Dark elves living in harmony. Has there been any attempt to reclaim this realm at all? Does anyone remember the name of this realm? How and when did this realm vanish? Sprawling cities of High Magic don't just disappear into thin air! |
| Lord Karsus02-24-08, 04:00 PM | Sprawling cities of High Magic don't just disappear into thin air! -They do. I'm still looking for Myth Adofhaor... |
| ikki02-24-08, 05:23 PM | -They do. I'm still looking for Myth Adofhaor... Otoh this is from the poiint of view of the ordinary shoeconsumer. Nothing indicates its not perfectly visible and visitable for highmages. |
| Lord Karsus02-24-08, 05:40 PM | Nothing indicates its not perfectly visible and visitable for highmages. -The fact that it's been missing for thousands of years, and no one currently on Faerūn, including multiple Selu'Taar, know the...'password' to bring it back contradicts you assertation, there. |
| selunatic239702-24-08, 07:36 PM | I brought it back in my campaign...but I had the password encrypted in that elven song language mentioned on page 112 of "Cormanthyr Empire of the Elves" They had to track down a 23rd level Bard who had been training as a mage after she had topped out in Bard...Remember I do run 1ED, This took them one hella long time...and neatly tied them into my Seelie Court intrigue plot. Grounding out the high magic...bubble for lack of of better word...nearly killed the Bard/Mage...and a pack of the best Ftr/Mages they could find to round out the circle [elves all]. They got...Gratitude! Well, that and being now involved in the countless minor to major plots of some serious elven power players. :) |
| selunatic239702-24-08, 07:38 PM | OH! I almost forgot...All Hail Lord Karsus! |
| Lord Karsus02-24-08, 07:59 PM | -Okay, cool! -I'm getting adoration left and right, lately. |
| 18DELTA02-24-08, 08:09 PM | - Didn't you know...that everyday is Lord Karsus appreciation day?;) :P :D 18DELTA:bow: :emp: |
| Lord Karsus02-24-08, 08:12 PM | - Didn't you know...that everyday is Lord Karsus appreciation day?;) :P :D 18DELTA:bow: :emp: -That's good to know. :) -Geeze, I transformed from friendly, neighborhood Lord Karsus to a celebrity overnight, it seems. |
| Old Sage02-24-08, 08:17 PM | There is a further small amount of information in Lost Empires of Faerūn, but nothing at all about this city, its inhabitants or any other details. You are on your own here. Have fun. ;) |
| Old Sage02-24-08, 08:19 PM | "Outofhere"... Hehe. Still makes me laugh. Anyways, Steven Schend also managed to share a few thought on Adofhaer over at Candlekeep a couple of years ago:- "Myth Adofhaer...sheesh. I had to go back and reread what I wrote.... Forgot quite a bit about Siluvanede and its mythal city.... Actually, it's taking me more than an hour to even scare up references and files to this site and/or details on Siluvanede. I'll have to look at reorganizing files so I can find things easier. Off the top of my head, it's the last Siluvanedden city, its mythal sets it into a side-dimension/pocket dimension (but not that of Shade), and it will be chock full of gold elves exclusively. Now, are they those who didn't agree with the corrupt leadership, leaving with lots of lore in hopes for the future? Are they those who left after "the Sixth Crown War" in hopes of revenge later vs. Sharrven? What exactly did they do to the mythal that blipped them out of phase with the Realms and why haven't they been found? I always considered it a time-shift, and they've sent themselves along to the future but won't rematerialize until it's safe. Conditions for its return really depend on who pulled the city out of reality, dunnit?" and:- "Honestly, using my old notes on elvish, "ado" is peace/peaceful and "faer" is magic; thus Myth Adofaer (no h in there I was aware of, unless my notes are wrong) is "the place of peaceful magics." Alternately, there could have been some elven disinformation campaigns going on all across the centuries... What if the city's name was actually Myth Adofhaor? "Fhaor" is the concept of magical death/change/alteration (but not of an evil nature), so the city could have been some crucible of change seen as a good thing by the Siluvanedden. Innit great how one or two letters can totally change one's perceptions of an idea? Just another direction y'all can take this in your campaigns, if you so choose...." and:- "Well, if Myth Adofaer/Adofhaor truly time-shifted with its mythal, that's one possible outcome, in having the orc horde invade the city and have them pull themselves out of time again, not feeling too safe. Another option, which I don't think is used often enough, is this: Gates permeate the High Forest (as well as all of Faerun); who say's they all transport people across space? What if they simply tunnel short-cuts through time, throwing people days or weeks or centuries ahead rather than miles? I love the idea of an orc horde and Ellarthion's Crusade rumbling out of the High Forest next Mirtul... Steven" |

I'm looking for that ancient center of High Magic in The Winterwood!! Roughly to the north of The Lake of Steam. South of The Vilhon Reach. Anyone? |
| Stormlord02-24-08, 10:06 PM | I believe, the place you're talking about is Eiellūr. It was destroyed by the forces of Ilythiiri in -11,400. This information is in Cormanthyr: Empire of Elves pages 29-30 under the Elven Ages section. |
| Old Sage02-25-08, 01:15 AM | My apologies GEV. I got all caught up in this discussion about Myth Adofaer -- thus, I missed your original query. And to add a little to Stormlord's post above, you'll find a few extra tidbits about Eiellūr in Grand History of the Realms. |
| Green Elven Vampire02-27-08, 03:34 AM | Please, friend... don't say any sorry's I've read all this stuff in the GhOtR... but I was wondering if ANYONE has more information? I mean, how can the Dark elves of the ancient southern empires befoul and destroy a MAJOR center of elven high magic? Not without the modern elves knowing a relative understanding? Right? Hoe can it truly be lost? I mean.... the Copper Elves and Wild Elves live in the forest still today... but it's a shadow of it's former state of power and culture!! If such a city of High Magic did exist... and we all know it did... How can a infiltration of elitist dark elves (pre descent we're talking about) in such small numbers cause the downfall of such a powerful city of Ancient elven history? Now... I can understand how a small prank or trick caused by a Cleric or Rogue of Erevan Ilesere may make kingdoms fall by sheer intrigue and bluff's played by such a charismatic persona! But... were the Dark Elves of the ancient southern kingdoms so skilled at intrigue and manipulation that it would cause a City of Elven High Magic to fall? This was what... during the years before the Sundering and the Crown Wars? It was way before the fall of the Vyshanti empire up north. Right? Can anyone expand on this ancient matter, or is it all speculation??? Besides the GhOtR!!!! |
| sfdragon02-28-08, 02:42 AM | hmmm....... well, cant say myself. so afaik its up for speculation, it may be destroyed, it could of made out like that sun elf city did, it could of gated itself via its highmages back to feywild, it could of made one hell of a mythall by making the city look like wilderness and forest areas, you walk in one side and get shifted to the other. afterall, the best offense is the best defense and just remember one thing about illusions, they never have been lies, people just have this habbit about believing what they see |

| Nymrohd07-15-08, 08:26 AM | Bah nothing on old elven ruins there I could find. Only a few paragraphs on Empire of the Shining Sea on the local sylvan elves, orcs and mold men, plus a green dragon. A repeat of the same info on the Vilhon Reach but with no mention of elves (just orcs (the clan of the White Hand, they sound like Yutrus worshippers?) and the vegepygmies). Also the Winterwood was not likely part of Eiellur. The Thornwood was part of Thearnatyar and it is quite closer than the Chondalwood is. The Ankhwood was once part of the Winterwood and it does have strange magical effects alleged to be the remnants of ancient elven magic. Zones of dead or wild magic permeate and move through the forest randomly, altering nature as they observe their weird orbits. |
