| Steel Rabbit09-28-07, 11:30 PM | Hey guys. Forgive me if this has been talked about earlier but sometimes forums are a pain to navigate (even with a search function). Also forgive me if I mention a game I'm not supposed to. I'm playing a miniatures wargame and the army I'm doing is a High Elf army. Now, I want to base it off a Moon/High elf nation/Empire/Kingdom in the Forgotten Realms. My question is, which nation would be best to base an army off of? I'm looking for one preferrably in the current timeline, and able to actually go to war. Also if you could point me to some good sourcebooks (new or old) to look at for color scheme or army composition that'd be helpful too! Thanks alot! |

Wouldn't be entirely moon elves, though. 2) Evereska - They used to be a competant fighting force of several thousand, but they've been decimated in the Return of the Archwizards and Last Mythal series. Probably your best bet, if you want them to be continent-based. 3) A historical option - Eaerlann (notice a patter with the names?) Eaerlann (destroyed in the late 800's DR) was either an incredibly powerful elven nation that kept Netheril from expanding west, or a weakling (sources are flatly contradictory). Also, not much has been written about them (read: nothing at all), so you can develop them however you want. To get them in modern Realms, though, you'd have to either have a small army of very old survivors, or use some time-travelling tricks. I don't think there are very many other sizeable groups of moon elves that could field the kind of army you'd be wanting. For your other question, your best bet for specifics on elven armies would be the Last Mythal books (since they feature an army of thousands) and especially the adventure Fall of Myth Drannor (and the larger sourcebook Cormanthyr), which gives details on how Myth Drannor's armies were organized, fought, and colors (to some extent). I also asked Ed about standards over on Candlekeep, so you might search there (use Kuge's compiled replies for ease of searching). Hope this helps. |
| Steel Rabbit09-29-07, 03:44 AM | Wow, thanks for the detailed and speedy reply. I'll do some research now that I know where to start but I think I'm gonna go with Evereska as I do want it land-based, and an all Moon Elf army. |
| MarkusTay6309-29-07, 01:05 PM | Evereska would have been my choice as well, but I didn't respond to this when I first read it last night becauseI don't think 'uniform colors' are discussed for Any Elven nation. In fact, the only FR nation I know that does so is Cormyr. You may want to go over to Candlekeep (http://forum.candlekeep.com/default.asp) and ask Ed himself about this one. Just don't expect a speedy response because the man is swamped with projects ATM. |
| GothicDan09-29-07, 03:27 PM | Mind you, Evereska is the ONLY source of Sun Elf power in Faerun proper itself - so expect quite a few Sun Elves to be involved in any military affairs. In a question I asked Ed about House Alastrarra awhile back, he mentioned specific NPCs of Evereska. Sun Elves. :) |
| Suin Bahhar09-29-07, 03:35 PM | Perhaps look for Waterdeep to recruite a 1000 elf strong army of Silver Elves. What was that new area a few youngster elves from waterdeep founded? |
| Mula09-30-07, 12:25 AM | I think the major elven settlements (read places that you could muster an army) in Faerūn these days tend to have a mixed population of moon and sun elves (and probably others too). Having an army strictly composed of moon elves would most likely be pretty rare. |
| Thinblade09-30-07, 01:06 AM | On the other hand, having an army with a majority of moon elves (even a slim majority) isn't much of a stretch, and as a war game you'd probably round up, making most or all of your units moon elves. But previous posters are right: modern major elven settlements tend to be "last retreat" kinds of places, and therefore have members of all subraces in their populations and armies. |
| Steel Rabbit09-30-07, 07:28 PM | Thanks everyone for the help. When I ment Moon Elves I kept meaning to say Sun Elves as well. Pretty much I'm looking for any elf but Drow or Wood/Savage elf. |
| Thinblade09-30-07, 10:03 PM | Ah. Well then, things get much easier. Best of luck. By the way, once you get your mini's designed and painted, I'd be curious to see what they look like. Not sure about the ability to post pictures on the boards, though. |
