| The_Shaman02-16-07, 06:57 PM | Hi, I just took a peek at Lost Empires of Faerun... and it's WOWesome. There's more mythology for a history buff like me than I could learn in a weekend, and it ties together fairly well. However, I was just as impressed at the stats some NPCs were given. I get the feeling that one or two could probably take on an entire setting, sans the deities... Heck, now Elminster seems weak... So what, to the best of your knowledge, is the highest-level "active" NPC in the realms? I think Iolaum (if he can be considered active) would probably be at the top... Perhaps Larloch? |
| GothicDan02-16-07, 07:00 PM | Highest level? By RAW, I think it's Ioulaum. In my FR, it's Larloch. |

Highest level? By RAW, I think it's Ioulaum. In my FR, it's Larloch. How about Daurgortoth(just occured to me, my spelling might be a bit off) , The Creeping Doom, of Dragon Magazine (By Greenwood) and Dragons of Faerûn fame? Black Dracolich with plenty of wizard (and archmage, to boot) levels. He would certainly qualify as having a higher HD total than both Ioulaum and Larloch (both the Lords of Darkness version and Ed's 46th level version). Though, admittedly, both Io and Larloch are probably older, more experienced, and have had better publicity on most FR boards. |
| Karsus the Mad02-16-07, 07:51 PM | Ioulaum at 41 class levels (45th with lich template...and whatever being an elder brain might add) is the highest level I've seen. Black Dracolich with plenty of wizard (and archmage, to boot) levels. He would certainly qualify as having a higher HD total than both Ioulaum and Larloch What's his HD? I thought Ioulaum was the highest with 66. |

I thought Ioulaum was the highest with 66. D'oh! You are correct, Ioulaum does have a higher HD total (67 HD, actually, you've been short-changing him a little) than ol' Daug, who "only" have 62 HD. |

| Xamo'das02-16-07, 08:34 PM | Elder brain is 26HD? Now where did I get the 25 from...is that their CR? I don't have Underdark. Yes, that seems likely, they do indeed have a CR of 25, which is quite close to their HD total of 26. |

| The_Shaman02-16-07, 09:00 PM | Just to check, as an EB Ioulaum gets all the psionics PLUS his spellcasting, or does he? Sh... Wow. I guess if Mystra hadn't powered down Magic after the Karsus incident this guy'd need an entirely new spell compendium. I wonder what his apprentice could do if she managed to escape from the Shades. Edit: Perhaps he was involved in XP-spending activities... or the designers didn't want to completely break the game? IMO it's not good how the best applications of a mage's craft often COST XP instead of giving it, but that's how it is. The ritual that, er, changed him into what he is was probably quite draining. Another explanation may be that since the refusal of high spells after Karsus, mages were powered down, but that's a bit too simplistic. |
| Xamo'das02-16-07, 09:05 PM | Just to check, as an EB Ioulaum gets all the psionics PLUS his spellcasting, or does he? Yes, yes he does. Which is why he is a person-not-to-cross-lightly. Sh... Wow. I wonder what his apprentice can do if she managed to escape from the Shades. Probably not as much as Ioulaum can do, considering that he is *much* older, *much* higher level, and an elder brain to boot. Though, of course, she would still be pretty impressive (by the by, have you read Volo's guide to the North? It contains some information on her, and it can be downloaded for free here at Wizards). |
| The_Shaman02-16-07, 09:09 PM | Well, yeah - the book (LEoF) had her stats, and she's only an epic (iirc) mage, probably with a spellbook to make the Manshoon sit down and start panting. Nothing special here, no sirree ;) Speaking of which, is it just me or are there very few epic non-mages in general? I don't remember many clerics, and as for fighters, thieves, or the like...even fewer. |

Nothing special here, no sirree ;) I did say that she would still be "quite impressive". Just not on par with Iou himself ;) Speaking of which, is it just me or are there very few epic non-mages in general? I don't remember many clerics, and as for fighters, thieves, or the like...even fewer. That question has been asked a lot, I guess it's either that: 1) Spellslingers recieve more attention (read: are cooler) than the melee classes, thus inducing WotC to print more of them. 2) It's a conscious design decision, from Greenwood or WotC or whoever, since high-level spellcasters have better acces to various forms of immortality (lichdom, longevity spells/potions etc.), and they simply are more powerful than the other classes (thus surviving longer, provided said power don't turn them into megalo/egomaniacs). |
| The_Shaman02-16-07, 09:32 PM | True, I did notice a strangely high number of undead in the book ;) I'm still a bit surprised that there doesn't seem to be much known about at least the champions of the longer-lived races, such as the elves and (to a degree) the dwarves. Heck, probably even gnomes have legendary rangers or warriors, if not thieves :) |

Heck, probably even gnomes have legendary rangers or warriors, if not thieves :) Indeed, but the Forgotten Realms products have ever been humano-centric (though with a strong undercurrent of elves). Humans are simply the most dynamic, energetic, and meddlesome race, thus they are also the ones most likely to be at the forefront of major Realmsian events, they are the ones most likely to receive attention from the developers, and they are the ones most likely to get their champions written up in the sourcebooks. |
| Karsus the Mad02-16-07, 10:00 PM | Why has Ioulaum not gained a single class level since the fall of Netheril? I find this strange? Prolly more of an "iconic must be their recognized level or around that" type of thing. El, even having had levels added to represent his experience before becoming a mage is still a 29th level mage. Szass Tam is still a 29th level mage. Drizzt is still 16th level. Tho' there are numerous others that defy that logic, tho' they still maintain +/- a few levels. Larloch went from being 26th level to 32nd level. Tho' many that gained several levels higher than their 2e versions also tend to be multiclassed, and usually with classes that represent the character better but don't benefit them nearly as much. Ioulaum has always been 41st level, and prolly always will. Before LEoF, I had him as a 63rd level demi-lich. Tho' being an Elder Brain Lich means he's far, far, FAR nastier than your standard 41st level wizard. Most notably: 67HD means 7 Epic wizard spells and 7 Epic Psionic powers (as an elder brain he manifests as a 20th level telepath, thus meets the requirements for Epic Manifesting). And I've said 'tho'' too many times. It's 5am...maybe I should snooze... |

Where is the undead Elder Brain? The living Elder Brain I have found. |
| ZolDarklock02-16-07, 11:41 PM | Inferno if you give him his class levels depicting his status as the realms foremost fire specialist, for some reason in his writeup they left out any class levels and didn't even give him any epic spell abilities Kinda strange for a 61HD advanced colossal dragon, who us suppose to be the realms foremost fire-based spellslinger, seems all they did was made a generic big bad dragon without an class, epic, or fire abilities... they really dropped the ball on his writeup he could probalbly be the realms toughest opponent if given just a few class levels in his specialty, the dracomonicon elemental fire PrC was written specifically for a dragon like him considering he is suppose to be the realms foremost fire specialist he should have class levels at least equal or better to whoever is the second foremost fire specialist in the realms...they really screwed his writeup BIGTIME |

The living Elder Brain I have found. The undead elder brain part is due to Ioulaum also being a lich. He was a lich before he became an elder brain, and used alhoon (ilithid liches) to create the elder brain, then merged his sentience with it. |
| The_Shaman02-17-07, 05:58 PM | Heh, so it's both an EB and a lich... that keeps getting sweeter :) |
| Karsus the Mad02-17-07, 07:20 PM | Heh, so it's both an EB and a lich... that keeps getting sweeter :) Not to mention prolly the most skilled mage in FR history. I'd think he's even surpassed myself:P |
| MarkusTay6302-17-07, 07:39 PM | Just to check, as an EB Ioulaum gets all the psionics PLUS his spellcasting, or does he? Just to bring a little something to everyone's attention. In 2e, THIS would make him a demi-god! According to the Dark Sun rulebook Dragon Kings, once a spellcaster hits lev21 AND has psionic ability, he begins to undergo a metamophosis. He slowly evolves, and by level 30 he becomes a demi-god, enabling him to grant spells to followers. Now I know Dark Sun isn't FR, but that was the one setting that used to handle Epic level characters on a day-to-day basis. So suppose Ioulaum knew about dragon-kings? He couldn't go that route on Toril, but perhaps that is what he was shooting for when he melded with the Elder brain? If you follow this path of logic, then it is quite possible he can grant spells! Now wouldn't that be a kick in the head? I'm not saying any of this is canon, but it sure is fun to think about. :D |
| Lord Karsus02-17-07, 08:53 PM | Not to mention prolly the most skilled mage in FR history. I'd think he's even surpassed myself:P -This is going to hurt me just as much as it's going to hurt you... ::slap:: |
| Green Elven Vampire02-17-07, 09:04 PM | For Rogues... We have a female (can't remember her name) who is a Shadow Walker Rogue 9/ Assassin 4/ Teflammar Shadowlord 9. which makes her a 24th? level NPC. That's pretty high for a rogue, non-spellcaster NPC. |
| Lord Karsus02-17-07, 09:14 PM | -Abordabe of Narfell has a whopping 30 levels, all in Fighter. |
| Karsus the Mad02-17-07, 11:05 PM | THIS would make him a demi-god! Well, his nickname was Ioulaum the Demi-Divine....... -This is going to hurt me just as much as it's going to hurt you... ::slap:: I didn't mean it like that! I swear! If big K was around, he'd be the greatest! I'm absolutely positive we'd be around level 80ish or so by now, with DvR 20! |
| MessiahOmega02-17-07, 11:13 PM | where can i find this Iolaum? |
| Karsus the Mad02-17-07, 11:24 PM | where can i find this Iolaum? There's information of him in Netheril: Empire of Magic, the adventure How the Mighty Are Fallen (I think he's mentioned in there...) and Lost Empires of Faerun. There may be minor tidbits in other sources, but those are the 3 major ones I think. |

No. Does/Did have his own squadron of assassins? No. -Oh, by the way, I was meaning to tell you about that. I've assembled a group of assassins to do our bidding. They are the Hands of Karsus...:emp: |

With all the demands on our time and Unrivaled Wisdom, we decided long ago that the world needed at the least 3 Karsi, one for each aspect of personality, in which the various demands upon us can be met efficiently. How does an Elder Brain become undead? What if any special powers would it have from being undead? I mean the stats for a living Elder Brain are easy enough to find, but nothing on the undead version. What if we hit him with a resurrection? He slowly evolves, and by level 30 he becomes a demi-god, enabling him to grant spells to followers. Not true, he would have to be a Preserver or Defiler and cast the correct metamorphosis spell before he could begin the transformation to a Dragon. It does not happen innately when you gain high level psionic and spellcasting powers. As an undead, he is also unable to progress along the evolution towards dragon, so as a lich he can never assume the first stage of dragon metamorphosis, which since he was "undead' before he was a Elder brain means he could never become a Dragon King. |
| Karsus the Mad02-19-07, 05:08 PM | Yeah I saw the Stat line. It still doesn’t explain the undead thing. How does an Elder Brain become undead? What if any special powers would it have from being undead? I mean the stats for a living Elder Brain are easy enough to find, but nothing on the undead version. What if we hit him with a resurrection? Would he come back to life a living elder brain or a human? You take the living Elder Brain stats and apply the lich template, which includes the Undead traits, as well as the special abilities of a lich. Other than that, there is no difference between a living Elder Brain and an undead Elder Brain. 'Undead' is merely a type that can be applied to any living creature. Take the Elder Brain, apply the following Traits: An undead creature possesses the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature’s entry). —No Constitution score. —Darkvision out to 60 feet. —Immunity to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects). —Immunity to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, stunning, disease, and death effects. —Not subject to critical hits, nonlethal damage, ability drain, or energy drain. Immune to damage to its physical ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution), as well as to fatigue and exhaustion effects. —Cannot heal damage on its own if it has no Intelligence score, although it can be healed. Negative energy (such as an inflict spell) can heal undead creatures. The fast healing special quality works regardless of the creature’s Intelligence score. —Immunity to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects or is harmless). —Uses its Charisma modifier for Concentration checks. —Not at risk of death from massive damage, but when reduced to 0 hit points or less, it is immediately destroyed. —Not affected by raise dead and reincarnate spells or abilities. Resurrection and true resurrection can affect undead creatures. These spells turn undead creatures back into the living creatures they were before becoming undead. —Proficient with its natural weapons, all simple weapons, and any weapons mentioned in its entry. —Proficient with whatever type of armor (light, medium, or heavy) it is described as wearing, as well as all lighter types. Undead not indicated as wearing armor are not proficient with armor. Undead are proficient with shields if they are proficient with any form of armor. —Undead do not breathe, eat, or sleep. and LICH A lich is an undead spellcaster, usually a wizard or sorcerer but sometimes a cleric or other spellcaster, who has used its magical powers to unnaturally extend its life. A lich is a gaunt and skeletal humanoid with withered flesh stretched tight across horribly visible bones. Its eyes have long ago been lost to decay, but bright pinpoints of crimson light burn on in the empty sockets. Liches speak Common plus any other languages they knew in life. CREATING A LICH “Lich” is an acquired template that can be added to any humanoid creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature), provided it can create the required phylactery; see The Lich’s Phylactery, below. A lich has all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities except as noted here. Size and Type: The creature’s type changes to undead. Do not recalculate base attack bonus, saves, or skill points. Size is unchanged. Hit Dice: Increase all current and future Hit Dice to d12s. Armor Class: A lich has a +5 natural armor bonus or the base creature’s natural armor bonus, whichever is better. Attack: A lich has a touch attack that it can use once per round. If the base creature can use weapons, the lich retains this ability. A creature with natural weapons retains those natural weapons. A lich fighting without weapons uses either its touch attack or its primary natural weapon (if it has any). A lich armed with a weapon uses its touch or a weapon, as it desires. Full Attack: A lich fighting without weapons uses either its touch attack (see above) or its natural weapons (if it has any). If armed with a weapon, it usually uses the weapon as its primary attack along with a touch as a natural secondary attack, provided it has a way to make that attack (either a free hand or a natural weapon that it can use as a secondary attack). Damage: A lich without natural weapons has a touch attack that uses negative energy to deal 1d8+5 points of damage to living creatures; a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 lich’s HD + lich’s Cha modifier) halves the damage. A lich with natural weapons can use its touch attack or its natural weaponry, as it prefers. If it chooses the latter, it deals 1d8+5 points of extra damage on one natural weapon attack. Special Attacks: A lich retains all the base creature’s special attacks and gains those described below. Save DCs are equal to 10 + 1/2 lich’s HD + lich’s Cha modifier unless otherwise noted. Fear Aura (Su): Liches are shrouded in a dreadful aura of death and evil. Creatures of less than 5 HD in a 60-foot radius that look at the lich must succeed on a Will save or be affected as though by a fear spell from a sorcerer of the lich’s level. A creature that successfully saves cannot be affected again by the same lich’s aura for 24 hours. Paralyzing Touch (Su): Any living creature a lich hits with its touch attack must succeed on a Fortitude save or be permanently paralyzed. Remove paralysis or any spell that can remove a curse can free the victim (see the bestow curse spell description). The effect cannot be dispelled. Anyone paralyzed by a lich seems dead, though a DC 20 Spot check or a DC 15 Heal check reveals that the victim is still alive.. Spells: A lich can cast any spells it could cast while alive. Special Qualities: A lich retains all the base creature’s special qualities and gains those described below. Turn Resistance (Ex): A lich has +4 turn resistance. Damage Reduction (Su): A lich’s undead body is tough, giving the creature damage reduction 15/bludgeoning and magic. Its natural weapons are treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. Immunities (Ex): Liches have immunity to cold, electricity, polymorph (though they can use polymorph effects on themselves), and mind-affecting attacks. Abilities: Increase from the base creature as follows: Int +2, Wis +2, Cha +2. Being undead, a lich has no Constitution score. Skills: Liches have a +8 racial bonus on Hide, Listen, Move Silently, Search, Sense Motive, and Spot checks. Otherwise same as the base creature. Organization: Solitary or troupe (1 lich, plus 2–4 vampires and 5–8 vampire spawn). Challenge Rating: Same as the base creature + 2. Treasure: Standard coins; double goods; double items. Alignment: Any evil. Advancement: By character class. Level Adjustment: Same as the base creature +4. Add in 31 levels of wizard, 5 of archmage, 5 of Netherese arcanist, a pinch of Nether Scrolls. Stir then bake for 20 minutes and you get an Ioulaum soufflé. Karsi! What race did you father? The Karsite race in Tome of Magic. That tome also lists us as a Vestige. I deny everything tho', otherwise the child support would be horrendous. |

| boards02-19-07, 09:37 PM | Interestingly enough if you look at the "El: Making of a Mage" novel, the Netherese arcanist that El meets mentions that Netheril had developed methods of cheating death that dont require one to become a pile of moldy bones. Now every arcanist and his pet gerbil has become a Lich. You would think that would come up with at least a couple of non lich arcanists besides the 2-3 that Ed has mentioned (Lord Telamonts family doesnt count). |
| Lord Karsus02-19-07, 10:09 PM | -Non Lich Arcanists who are still living, eh? There's Parzal the Outrageous...Lady Saharel of Saharelgard (She's "alive")...Tabra... -I'm sure there are a couple more, but, yes, it is difficult to think of. |

The reason many became liches was due to the phaerimm life-draining magics. It was weakening longevity magic (that was the reason Ioulaum and Karsus turned to lichdom, and maybe Larloch. Aumvor turned into a lich at the moment of the Fall due to his living zombies failing, and one of his contingencies whisked him off to his lair and transformed him into a lich). There's several that have survived to the present day without turning to lichdom tho'. Aumvor's grand daughter (or grand niece, can't remember which), Tabra (tho' she used the Epic version of Ioulaum's Longevity after the Fall), a Waterdavian noble, an Inn keeper in Cormyr. Also numerous other have turned themselves into magic items, etc. |
| The_Shaman02-20-07, 09:15 AM | Ioulaum's longevity seems a bit evil to me, though. What's the ruling on its morality? |
| Karsus the Mad02-20-07, 09:20 AM | Ioulaum's longevity seems a bit evil to me, though. What's the ruling on its morality? It's neither evil nor good. It would largely depend on it's use. What Tabra used it for was seemingly evil. She used it to destroy an Ilithid city, and of course increasing her lifespan. Depends, do people consider killing 'monsers' for personal gain to be evil?:) |

| Karsus the Mad02-20-07, 09:54 AM | -Monsters are people too!! ;) Thus the reason I phrased it as a question. Some people think slaughtering entire orc villages are fine and not evil. Some paladin orders actually do it often. Then some people find it to be just as evil as slaughtering a human village. It really just depends on ones viewpoint. Using Ioulaum's Longevity to increase your lifespan. If you use it on a village of orcs or a village of humans, the end result is the same: increased lifespan. The intentions were also the same: to increase your lifespan. Which is more evil?;) |

Ahh should have thought of that one:embarrass. Personally I have always thought of it as being evil. So where was Tabra that allowed her to survive the fall:confused: |
| Karsus the Mad02-20-07, 05:31 PM | Ahh should have thought of that one:embarrass. Personally I have always thought of it as being evil. So where was Tabra that allowed her to survive the fall:confused: I don't think she was alive then, or if she was, she was in Low Netheril. She was of Netherese descent for sure tho', which is why Ioulaum even took her on as an apprentice. |
| Yxunomei02-20-07, 05:41 PM | I would've thought the highest would have been a Demon Prince, an Archdevil or an Obyrith. |
| Lord Karsus02-20-07, 10:37 PM | I would've thought the highest would have been a Demon Prince, an Archdevil or an Obyrith. -They're not technically in the Realms, as in living in Faerûn. |
| The_Shaman02-21-07, 10:46 AM | What's Obyrith, a Yugoloth head Honchette or something? |
| GothicDan02-21-07, 02:06 PM | Oberyths are the original 'rulers' of the Abyss, created by the baernaloths. |
| Lord_Lucien_Karsus_Necron02-22-07, 12:44 AM | Add in 31 levels of wizard, 5 of archmage, 5 of Netherese arcanist, a pinch of Nether Scrolls. Stir then bake for 20 minutes and you get an Ioulaum soufflé. The Karsite race in Tome of Magic. That tome also lists us as a Vestige. I deny everything tho', otherwise the child support would be horrendous. I never liked that whole Vestige concept. Its sounds kind of silly! Lets see we got Karsus, Orcus, Primus, that’s old Lich from tomb of horrors. I mean none of these guys are really down for the count so I just find it a little silly. But maybe somebody some where thinks it’s cool. Who would you pay this child support to? Who’s your baby’s momma? What about alimony? You better give all your money to Ioulaum so he can hide it from the Lawyers and Judges! |
| Karsus the Mad02-22-07, 12:57 AM | We have no clue who the mother is and that's our statement to the courts...errr...I mean, they aren't our kids!:incog: |
| Boda02-22-07, 12:33 PM | Were can i find this abordabe of narfell guy? |
| Lord Karsus02-22-07, 02:22 PM | Were can i find this abordabe of narfell guy? -The Bloodstone Lands I never liked that whole Vestige concept. Its sounds kind of silly! Lets see we got Karsus, Orcus, Primus, that’s old Lich from tomb of horrors. I mean none of these guys are really down for the count so I just find it a little silly. But maybe somebody some where thinks it’s cool. -I agree- it is stupid. I don't know too many other people who use the idea of Vestige Magic, either, so I suppose that was one of WotC's more recent "flops" Who would you pay this child support to? Who’s your baby’s momma? What about alimony? You better give all your money to Ioulaum so he can hide it from the Lawyers and Judges! -We are the courts...Well, we were, anyway. Good times, then. Good times...:( |
| Lord_Lucien_Karsus_Necron02-22-07, 02:44 PM | I do like the idea of Karsus people as a race though. That might be interesting. Perhaps the people that settled and built a city on his body were adversely affected by the heavy magic present in the area. A race of sorcerers Graced with magical gifts from birth. I would have to put them on a parallel world. They wouldn’t fit in the realms. The Pevishan from the D20 Mythic Races book would be an excellent choice. What do you think LK? You ready to pony up some child support to an entire race? |

You ready to pony up some child support to an entire race? -No, no I'm not. |

So I imagine they would probably migrate to another prime material world. |

Maybe he might have heard of him from the local Mystran priest, who was talking about disgression, or something. |

Maybe he might have heard of him from the local Mystran priest, who was talking about disgression, or something. But I thought Cormyrian Farmer #2 with pitchfork HAD the Karsus-blooded Feat! Karsus Blooded Upon taking this feat, the character's pants explode off of him as his lower half begins to swell, leaving only tattered purple shorts. This is do to the character now being "too big for his Britches". Also, his head begins to swell to enormous proportions, making walking through normal doorways quite hazardous. The only 'assumed' benefit of this feat is that the character thinks he is now better at magic. However, this is merely a high-level illusion and a product of his own swollen ego. :D  |

A guy will have a lot of fun in her domain with that feat...;) |
| Lord_Lucien_Karsus_Necron02-25-07, 04:03 AM | what ever;) |
| The_Shaman02-25-07, 03:14 PM | Ok, to invigorate things a bit, what about the highest-level NPCs per race? Because, as I already mentioned, most of those discussed here are/were humans :) |
| Karsus the Mad02-25-07, 05:41 PM | Ok, to invigorate things a bit, what about the highest-level NPCs per race? Because, as I already mentioned, most of those discussed here are/were humans :) For the elves, the Srinshee or Amluriel (I think, can't remember if she's 20th or 30th level...). Humans: depends. Does lichdom or other transmogrified humans count? Larloch, Aumvor, Shoon (well, I assume he'd be considered an elf given his new body). Dwarves: no clue. Halflings: The highest one I know is that priest in Luiren, 16th level. Gnomes: absolutely no clue. |
| MaskedOne02-25-07, 06:17 PM | I'm with myself (LK) on this. But damn it, I don't want to pay the support! Not a concern for 2 reasons. 1) You and your enclave were both bankrupted shortly before the fall (believe me, I arranged it) and you haven't recovered. 2) One of the side uses of all the cash I reallocated out of your enclave was handling certain legacies of yours. The child support requirements have been met. |

| MaskedOne02-25-07, 06:55 PM | No, just handling certain bills and keeping the courts from tampering with powers meaner than they are. |
| Lord Karsus02-26-07, 12:29 AM | So are you dating the Karsus Babies momma then? -The Masked One, among other things, is an entity that exists to make sure that I/We, Karsus, don't cause too much damage to the natural world. |
| MaskedOne02-26-07, 12:41 AM | -The Masked One, among other things, is an entity that exists to make sure that I/We, Karsus, don't cause too much damage to the natural world. Something like that. I work to contain and limit the dangerous posed by many beings. The Karsi are among the more interesting of such threats, especially since there are standing orders not to try and get rid of them without grave need. Those orders by the way have Mystra's signature on them. |
| Lord_Lucien_Karsus_Necron02-26-07, 02:06 AM | One of my players has a rather annoying Orc shaman that has expressed an interest in eating Karsus for his power. His cannibalism is very distasteful to the party, but still extremely amusing. So if we can put humpty-Karsus back to gether again I might consider letting him attempt the act! What goes with Karsus fava beans and a nice Kianti?!? ;) |

| Lord Karsus02-26-07, 05:27 PM | Well that’s why we have to put humpty-Karsus back together again. So you could make an edible manifestation! -Well, if someone did somehow reunite my three tripartite aspects, I'd likely die. My "torment" is having to relive the Fall of Netheril over and over, not being able to pass on into death. Luckily, I called Gond over one day, and now me and KtM get other channels besides for that one. Anyway, so, if I'm reunited, by "reward" would be being able to die peacefully. -If I were somehow brought together, and was still alive, I can attest to the fact that I would defend myself from a canabalistic Orc (Is it really canabalism, since he is an Orc, after all ;) ). Remember, I am the strongest mage to have ever walked these realms... |

Hmm, wait a moment, knew Shar'd lose focus. *The Shade Enclave starts shaking in midair.* Half-wit archwizard wannabe (not talking about Karsi, I have other names for aspects of Superrock than that one). Telamont's only had 1100+ years to fix the fact that his Mythallar has inadequate defenses against tampering. It has only started glowing bright blue once a year, every year to suggest that the defenses are inadequate. No one can claim he didn't have fair warning that I might steal control of it. If it hasn't been claimed yet, it's not likely it'll be claimed anytime soon. Like most other truly perilous legaciesof your's, your divine essence stands somewhat untouched under my watch and ward. If necessary, the support of Corellon Larethian, Mystra and Azuth will be added to my own guard. It will remain relatively untouched until such time as Mystra, AO or one greater than AO determine that vigilance over it is unnecessary. |
| Lord Karsus03-02-07, 11:33 PM | -Thank you Masked One, for being so vigilant. :) |
| MaskedOne03-03-07, 12:13 AM | It's in the job. I have no patience for politics of the young. So while the children (cough I mean most of Mystra's Chosen) play at shaping the future with varying degrees of finesse and keep watch over things wondrous and some lesser terrors, I contain the great horrors of the past until such time as it is fit for the Realms to oppose them. Something seems to be up though because Mystra is permitting a great deal out to play at once. I did not intend for Phaerimm and Fey'ri to be active within 10 years of each other but I got overruled. Hmm, Savras and I need to talk. If his prophecy trick is influencing her judgment then he's going to be back in a stick by 1390 DR and he's not getting out for 5000 years. Oh well, at least those were small fries. She hasn't commented on the really scary stuff. |
| Lord_Lucien_Karsus_Necron03-03-07, 01:47 AM | Karsus’s soul will be mine! I shall feed on your divine essence. Little ones like the Maskedone cannot stop me! AO has decreed your death, tiny mage! |
| MaskedOne03-03-07, 02:52 AM | *bored shrug* Had AO made such a decree then the defenses would be shattered by now. I'm standing within the awakened and to paraphrase fully operational battle grid so you act alone, pup. *flare of blue-white light, multiple interlinked defensive screens that bare faint resemblance to mythals shimmer into existence around the divine component of Karsus* One would think younglings could find better hobbies than this but no *A distant avatar of Velsharoon stumbles as part of its divine power is siphoned away.* they absolutely must try for power they don't need and haven't earned. Well would-be power, there is a minor point you should consider. 2/3 of Karsus can control this little bit of divine power and under the right terms, Mystra will sanction it. So even if you fight past this minor defensive web, remember that the links connecting this defense to the defenses on the other fragments can also conduct their divine power back to them should the warden wish it regardless of if the warden is alive at the time of choosing. Care to break through only to try and devour an active power of Toril? I'm certain I'll enjoy the show.:) |
| Lord_Lucien_Karsus_Necron03-03-07, 03:10 AM | Mystra's will be done!:smirk: :evillaugh |
| ZolDarklock03-03-07, 11:50 PM | ye all may be old, but nobody has seen as many countless centuries as Zol Darklock, the one and only original Shade, hell they even have old legends on the Greyhawk world about me dating back further than the Rain of Colorless Fire, which by the way just happened to be caused by a dear old friend of mine, i told him to quit messing with that damn toy he found, but mortals just never listen... I am the first, and only true Shade ever written about, I am the first and only Prince of the Shadowlands, I have existed longer than any known world, I was created the moment light and darkness were seperated at the beginning of time itself I was also a former PC of the some of the D&D creators original adventuring party... I was first mentioned officially in a game module were they put me in an arena to fight alonside a cambion prince named Drumorg "the son of demogorgon" and a Lich named Zire Prakis "who later went on to claim some fame in the world of FR, as a legendary boogieman, used to scare children in a story" and to what really makes me mad was when RA killed off my puppy Shimmergloom, and then wrote my Shade agents I placed there with him out of existance, that was a low blow, I should have become an author and killed off his pet drow, I bet he wouldn't have liked that one bit impotent mortal has-beens like Karsus and Elminster cannot begin to comprehend my true power, all they do is talk the talk |
| Lord Karsus03-03-07, 11:55 PM | impotent mortal has-beens like Karsus cannot begin to comprehend my true power  -You can talk the talk, but I have yet to see either you or LLKN walk the walk...;) :whatsthis: |
| ZolDarklock03-04-07, 12:03 AM | It's ahrd to walk the walk when novelist and game designers have written you out of existance over fear of your legendary history and power, you can bet not even Shar would dare walk in the Shadows were I dwell |
| MaskedOne03-04-07, 12:06 AM | Frankly, I'd prefer it stay that way. Multiple interconnected, semi-mobile, thought controlled mythal defenses without physical connections of some form are annoying to put up alone. Add in power channels that can be activated after death as easily as before and we're talking a large investment here for one divine essence. |

Hmmm...prismatic brew, 12%...oh yeah....:D -I'm...I'm not sure. That might be one of those memories that my psychiatrist told me to black out... Nah, you remember. We were in Jeresy about a year and a half ago, Newark to be precise. On the way to the airport. The bathroom there, ZolDarklock brand, 50 cents each. I'm sure of it. Then again, my memory may be a bit twisted, given that I was stuck between two 300 pound guys for a transatlantic flight in which the air cooling failed...sweaty buggers....ewwwwwww...... |

It's Newark. That's that. Interesting Fact: A large park in Newark has it's own murder rate. |

| Lord Karsus03-05-07, 10:39 AM | -I remember that. That was about the same time she decreed and that she did not want her followers to wage jihad against Shar yet. Good times, those. |
| The_Shaman03-05-07, 12:44 PM | Oh, I thought She basically told them to stockpile ammo and work on those Shadow Weave rending spells. I'm feeling personally offended for Her that a magical no-one like Shar would decide to enter into Her field so... brazenly. Do you hear of Mystran Shadowdancers, despite Her knowledge of illusion and shadow magic? Do you hear of Mystra branching out into woe and assassination? Sheesh... you mind the portfolio that allows spellcasting on a fantasy world, the portfolio that the greatest mortalborns have dedicated life and often undeath to, and what do you get in return? The Primal Darkness decides that she can play at that game too. Time to put on the bunny ears, get a carrot, and declame "You realize, of course, this means war." |

| Lord_Lucien_Karsus_Necron03-05-07, 06:07 PM | And when pray tell did Mystra get rid of dead magic pebbles? In less she removed all the dead magic zones from the Realms it shouldn’t be that hard to acquire more pebbles. Or just use a pebble with anit-magic cast into it. Or a silence spell all works out the same. So, no spells out of u silly.:ayyyy!: |

Look their on the hilt. “Acme Art Blade replicas” You’ve been had little munchkin. It's the real one, given to me by the ghost of Joshydia (sp?) Starym. I, the Air Archmage Alediran of House Tir'ent, am a Cormanthor scholar, my uncle Unelas was a friend of Joshydia, and thanks to the Artblade also the Spell-Mayor of Cormanthyr. The dead magic pebble was thrown with the anti magic pebble. |
| MaskedOne03-05-07, 06:59 PM | Now we're just being pathetic. *activates an odd variant (using it to protect a spell cast from outside dead magic instead of allowing me to cast one inside dead magic) of Invoke Magic, uses modified unseen servant to drag pebble out and into contact with Epic personal defenses where it disintigrates.* Before the cry of munchkin goes out, the persona of MaskedOne as an excessively overpowered archwizard who fears only divinities has been in use on the boards for quite some time. Like all archwizard characters, I consider using for anything this persona always has at least 2 means of countering any variant of Anti-Magic or Dead Magic. He's not getting any treatment more special than usual to break the little rock. Other than that, there is a difference between an object that radiates dead magic (how the heck does one radiate a tear in the Weave) and an object picked up in a Dead Magic Zone. Most of the latter are quite easy to affect once you leave the DMZ. |
| Karsus the Mad03-05-07, 07:24 PM | Krrrm....silly younglings..... I have a keyed Toril wide antimagic field effect...unless I desire you to utilize magic, you won't. Period. That's the key: my will. So far the only people who have my will to use magic fully is MaskedOne and BrennonGoldeye. And the Tripartate Karsi of course.... |
| MaskedOne03-05-07, 07:33 PM | Start confusing yourself with Mystril, young one and you are going to rapidly discover what other defenses I keep around for impetous children. Anti-magic even with your power is not exactly stable if one knows what they're doing. Now breaking your toy might have a vicious backlash but it won't be impossible or even time consuming. Maybe a half hour to limit some of the nastier side effects. |

But at least spell the dear lady's name correctly. Otherwise, I will cut you off of magic, despite your profanity. |
| BrennonGoldeye03-05-07, 08:14 PM | Did somebody say that something needed cutting off?:fight!: |
| MaskedOne03-05-07, 08:22 PM | Not my fault you had the poor taste to use one of the most tiresome effects in existence or that you are foolish enough to pit yourself against me in abjuration. You are aware that attempting to dictate who wields magic with a keyed anti-magic is just going to annoy epic casters of lesser strength. If you actually think anti-magic could contain me then I need to know what you're smoking. Most powerful mortal mage is a nice title and you've mostly earned it but that won't let you overcome the inherent frailties of all anti-magic effects. No matter how much power you put behind it, anti-magic still has certain weaknesses. I know them and while I won't enjoy extending a shear across the globe and might have to actually claim divine ranks to manage the full distance in one go, it is possible. |

Especially when those spellwebs took centuries to create and span the globe. There went that anathema based epic contigency...I wasn't done working on it either. | Lord_Lucien_Karsus_Necron03-06-07, 10:53 AM | Even if you were powerful enough to get past my SR, which you are not, you would still have to get past something like 32 defensive protocols. Oh and Maze doesn’t work on someone who is telepathically linked to 13 other epic spell casters. :P |

| Karsus the Mad03-06-07, 06:28 PM | Is there any form of mischief you don't get into? Not really. I'm like the FR version of Sony. Except I don't make cell phones...or game counsels, or TVs, or DvD players, or MP3 Players, or car tires, or....well, you get my meaning anyway. Tell me how you pulled this one and I can save you a lot of paperwork. Pretty easy actually for someone of my magical aptitude. While sitting on the toilet reading my copy of Champions of Ruin, and releasing some of my own ruin, I stumbled upon a simple 9th level cleric spell called Anathema, which permanently severes the divine link between a deity and their follower (must be same deity as yours). This got me ol' cogs a' turnin' and brain a' fartin'. Shadow seed! It can duplicate any spell of 9th level or lower, whether divine or arcane. I used that as a basis mind ye. Added in a factor I call "any religion, +40)", based off of "any creature, +40" which is in some published epic spell, can't remember, but it's now on my Epic Spell Factors thread (link in my sig), changed it from target to area, and increased the area to a few thousand miles (big friggin' factor that was!), applied the "area level dependent, +25" factor which is in CoR. Then I made it contingent upon the removal of my Toril-wide anti-magic field, just in case someone tried getting the deities against me because "I threatened their connection to their followers" drivel. Which anyone who truly understands me knows I would never threaten a deity's connection to their followers. I simply have far greater plans. I'll handle the bypasses personally instead of letting the pantheons just start shredding things. No, no. I'll do the paperwork. I don't feel like explaining how I'm able to ward deities from entering designated areas. Option 2 by the way is that we find out if this little trick attracts AO's attention. Nah. Everything I do is by Ao's approval, or him simply not giving a damn, since I've already been able to do it. |
