| GhoX06-26-07, 06:21 PM | Thanks everyone for answering my queries in these two posts: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=12836989 http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=12707650 This time I just want to know how big a drow city would you want to play in? (If you played NWN2 then that's good, if you played BG2 then that's even better) I'm attempting to make a drow city half the size of Menzo, but the scale of it will be 1:1. (so it will probably feel like 30~50 times bigger than Neverwinter in NWN2, or 10 times bigger or so than Athkatla in BG2) Although the size of the city is gigantic, it will still be filled with quests in every corners. I'm currently thinking of cutting the city into many big pieces, but that could overload the whole module and making it unplayable... so a campaign must be made. How big ingame do you want the city to be? |
| Calmar06-26-07, 06:42 PM | It is quite a time since I played NWN the last time. I'd say, keep it small. Two times Athkatla is really sufficient. If you ever have played Baldur's Gate I you should know how boring it is to march through masses of screens to reach you goal. Do not make many plain, but few really interesting parts of the city. :) |
| GhoX06-26-07, 07:05 PM | But one of the thing is... this is a drow city with many houses. If the city is too small, it won't be such a good idea to fit 20 house compounds into it... |
| Calmar06-28-07, 08:11 AM | Does Menzoberranzan itself even have that much? At least in NWN I it was possible to squeeze in new maps. Remember that that's just my opinion, but to me a handfull of houses sounds more intriguing than masses of them. The NWN servers I played on always turned out to have some interesting place, where all the players were (the starting place) and all the rest where nothing was going on. Since these servers should be limited to max. 60 players, you'd also have massive house-forces of 3 players on average... |
| Zanan06-28-07, 08:20 AM | Are you creating a drow city for NWN/NWN 2 or for a P&P campaign? For beginners, Ust Natha as presented in Baldur's Gate II is a fine start, one that can be fleshed out without much problem and may be linked to other caverns (rothe kennels, fungi forests, whatever) etc. if need be. |
| GhoX06-29-07, 01:19 AM | I'm making a drow city for NWN2, it's single player. |
| Zsych06-29-07, 01:42 AM | I like this idea. A full scale drow city, filled with quests, so you don't even have to leave. Still, you should only make as much place as you need for the quests you have in mind(along with some access to the under dark) ... Maybe something like a story of the life a drow would go through. Wonder how much gender differentiation there is in NWN2, since the path taken should change a lot due to that. Same for race in fact, if you choose to play non-drow(almost immediate death for any low-level character entering the game :)) |
| GhoX06-29-07, 08:53 PM | I'm indeed planning on making the life of a drow, up to the age of 200(where a cut scene will be shown about your future). There is little gender differentiation in the NWN2 OC, but with some simple scripts and LOTS of alternative contents, the difference between male and female PC will be very realistic. Just like the difference between a male fighter or a male wizard(your school depends on your talent/gender). Some examples of these alternative contents are: A female priestess will have the duty of giving orders to others in the house, upgrade equipments for the soldiers, and eventually take over the matron mother's place. A male wizard will have to make magical items, be a master... and the rest I haven't yet figure out. A male fighter will train the soldiers, lead soldiers to eradicate nearby threats, and something else like those... I would really welcome ideas on what kind of duties the above three have, which can be made into quests. |
| DrowBattlemind06-30-07, 09:36 PM | You definitely need to make it bigger than Stonehenge. I mean, c'mon, look at what happened to Spinal Tap! |
| MarkusTay6307-01-07, 04:42 PM | The idea of the entire underdark of a world filled with an immense Drow city sounds appealing. Its like the WWW - World Wide Web. :D |
| JaiaDrottsingr07-01-07, 05:03 PM | Markus, when you put WWW, I honestly thought you were referencing MMBN. I'd much rather have an organization like Gospel. Filled with influential, powerful, smart, rich people who think they are working for the correct side. That game was my favorite of the six. Back on topic: If visitors are allowed, make it old, disgraced, forgotten, and more of a museum. |
| Zsych07-01-07, 07:42 PM | I think the main differentiator in quests will be sex. I think that both male fighters and wizards could face the same kind of intrigue, and the same kind of general objectives... NWN2 mages aren't quite so versatile as on the board mages. |
| GhoX07-02-07, 01:06 AM | A quick question, is there many rothe in the Middle Dark, I hope not... I don't have any model similar to rothe, I only have insects. btw, the first area is about to be finished. |
