Lolth became Lloth in his early novels ("Ll" is a Welsh invention and can be found in many a placename, e.g. Llanelli - pronounced like a soft "th" followed by an "L") and Guenhwyvar is a variant spelling of Gwenhwyfar (also Gwenhwyar, Guinevere, Guenevere) which is the wife of King Arthur. It has not much to do with a black hunting cat though, as gwên means "white", "fair", whereas (g)wyf is "smooth" or "yielding" |
