Think you need to give more info like are the pc's dark elves? are they even underdark dwellers? what levels are they maybe even classes would help to know. maybe someone from a bigger house hears about them and offers them a deal to get them out of that house. or Jarlaxle's band even. he could always USE more people =-)

-Well, so far, the framework seems solid. But, yeah, a little more information would be useful.

I'm still new to this site sorry

7th level party 1 6th tiefling sor.

human cleric of kossuth
half elf bard
elf fighter spec. in spiked chain and rapiers

they are wanted to be "allies" against other houses until they aren't needed. Maybe have them break free, work for kimmuriel, and become surface contacts.

-The Human and the Tiefling, I could see the Drow trying to use them for their own benefit. The Half-Elf and the Elf, though, it wouldn't work. Drow relish sacrificing Elves to the Spider Queen, and even though they are PCs, why would these particular Drow not try to sacrifice those two Elves?

My first character (a tethyrian rogue) was in Menzo accompagnied by two elves. He had to remain off the streets and had to stick to the Stench district (where the slaves and nondrow reside). Lizardriders (I guess these were CR 8 Nobles) were cutting down random slaves on the streets every day. Not a pretty place for a sunloving surfacer. We got out as soon as possible using some caravan goods as leverage for Breagan Drethe (spelling?) to get us out of Menzo. We were in way over our heads (and maybe 2nd level PCs).

Level 7 surface elves will not be able to survive openly in Menzo for even 2 or 3 seconds I guess. Beware!

Surface elves - or half-elves - better have more than a few ranks in disguise. The others... well, the human better have a way to use darkvision, and keep his/her allegiance to Kossuth a secret. Having a cleric of another deity - moreover, a surface deity - in your midst is a sure way to win Lloth's wrath, and few drow would risk that. The tiefling could be useful, mind you - magic, particularly that which is skilled in defeating foes resistant to spells (i.e. other drow) is usually welcome. So, a sample idea for this little posse:

tiefling - mage
elf (in heavy disguise) - bodyguard of the mage
half-elf (likewise) - contact for the group, rogue, etc.
human - in deep trouble... a hanger-on with useful skills, sage, etc - probably an assistant to the mage.

Who would use them? Well, if they are captured - and found for what they are - 3 of them will end on the nearest sacrifical altar. Otherwise, a minor house could find some use for them, ideally as an external agent staying at arm's length and used for spying, maybe some kidnapping, possibly a little assassination or other activities that a house wants done but doesn't want to be caught doing. Rule 0 of drow politics, after all, says that everything is fine unless you get caught at it. Just remember, lvl 7 is not a lot in Menzoberra's home: even minor houses probably have a few figures around lvl 10.

Tiefling Sorcerer
Human Cleric of Kossuth
Half Elf Bard
Elf Fighter

Perhaps they could've been hired by one house to deliver a package, and were ambushed by another house. Now they need to find out who knew of their mission, and who set them up.

Yeah, "slave" would be the proper drow equivalent I guess. Of course, "slave" would be a proper drow equivalent of a lot of other concepts, too.

XP or ECL? We know drow get LA, maybe it's actually worth a darn ;)

A new edition! Let's put a few more appendices, flashy covers, a little fluff and we can sell it as a brand new supplement, and we'll be rich!

In a campaign I had, we got into a similar situation (though none of us were elves...and sorry to say, but they would be given to Lolth ASAP). The lesser house used us as slaves for a brief time (labor, chores, hauling stuff), then they used us as pawns in a very complicated plot to take out another lower house. Attempting to pawn the entire coup on a "slave uprising" that we were supposed to start.

We actually defeated them, by coming up with a nice bluff about a cache of valuables we had collected, and offered as bounty for our lives. the drow sent a small group to accompany us on a short journey (leaving 1 of our PC's at the drow house as collateral). We jumped the drow at an opportune time and made our way back home (we never did see that one PC again....wonder what became of him)

From what I remember reading, the drow are known for spinning travlers into wicked plots, using them as pawns for their own gains.
