I've noticed that humans in most fantasy worlds live the shortest lives among others. Yet for some reason they are still able to become just as or even more so powerful then an advisary that has centries to millieniums of experience over them. You always see a human mage the age of 40 rivaling the power of a elf with 700 years of age. Example: Drizzt and Artemis. They are equals yet artemis is 40 and Drizzt is a few hundered somthing years old. Imagine if humans lived as long as others. Example: Elimenster anyone?

A question off subject (Because I did not feel it was important enough for it's own topic but still was very curious): In the Twilight War series, Rivalens father the Most High, does not know the true cause of his wifes death. Rivalen fears if he ever finds out. Is it just because of the authority his father has over the rest of the shades he could use to kill Rivalen? Or is he actually more powerful than his son.

Humans have something none of the other races have - the ability to absorb new concepts and synthesize new ideas faster then any other race. That is why they get the bonus feat - it represents a human's ability to learn and adapt quickly, something longer-lived races never needed to do.

He is more powerful than his son, as far as that matters.

Thank you. And it matters as far as to me.

Heh. I meant that it's certainly not impossible for someone to kill someone else who is more powerful than they are.:) Having said that, I've read Shadowstorm, and one passage suggests that Rivalen doesn't have a cavalier attitude towards his father's power.

Well he has Shar backing him up. And I am a bit dissapointed at the fact that somone as old as 2,000 years old isn't a God yet. Or at least that of Elimenster. 3 scenerios: 1) Cale is a prodigy at combat and can match that of Rivalen. 2) Rivalen is weak and the only reason he matched cale was his experience from 2,000 years of living. 3) Paul Kemp is pulling a Drizzt/Artemis.

Maybe I missed something, but Rivalen pretty much kicked Cales arse. Cale had to retreat.

For some reason I believe I read that Rivalen is 32nd level ... most of which are Mystic Theurge. Those 32 levels might include the ECL + from being a shade though.

Personally I have him being a 5 mage / 5 cleric Shar / 10+ Mystic Theurge with the Shade template. 10+ levels making up the difference to put him to a CR of 32. I doubt she would pick anyone, but if Shar ever picked anyone to be her choosen it's Rivalen.

Cale was the 1st to be atop the floating city and the reason he left was because of a few percautions. 1) he was being outnumbered by elite shades including one high presit of share 2) he had he friend back and he was considerably weak and seeing how Cale pulls off a drizzt and gets a hard from being reunited with his friends, wanted him to recover. 3) If one of them died the story is ruined Besides the point the argument can go either way, it was a even battle that resembles that of Artemis and Drizzt...a never ending always even win a battle lose a battle scenrio.
