I've decided to run a campaign for a 3rd level group in Vaasa and I wanted some pointers on official realms lore and such so I can present it as accurately as possible.

I have set it 10 years after "The Road of the Patriarch" to give myself some leeway. King Gareth died shortly after Artemis left and his daughter Chrysaria (made up NPC) took over a few years later. She inherited her father's good heart but has done little beyond officially establishing rule over Vaasa and making it part of Damara.

Because of her "bad" leadership, the frontier region near Palischuck has had an upsurge of Goblin and Kobolds tribes initiating hostilities once again. Feral Orcs, and other "savages" have been making trouble as well and it's coming to a head at this point in time.

The Queen has sent out a proclamation in Damara and to other nations asking for Bounty Hunters and "Mercs" to come to the frontier and earn a salary of 10 silvers a month plus bonuses for bring in the ears of dangerous creatures. She's funding all this with donated money and increased taxes in the rest of the kingdom.

I'd appreciate any honest criticisms, tips, and ideas since it's been awhile since I've done anything in the realms :)

Thank you.

Sounds interesting. There is an old 1e supplement, the Bloodstone Lands, written by RA Salvatore, I believe, that might be helpful.

As for the orcs and goblins, I wonder if there is a power behind them, funding them, and the like. Perhaps an evil dragon or an old cohort of the Witch King, or even a noble wanting power for himself/herself.

Also, the assassin guild held great power at one point. Assuming the queen is as bad as you say, perhaps they are gaining power once again

And what do the kings old adventuring companions have to say about all of this?

I don't know much about them aside from the stuff in the Artemis books but I'll have to look into that.

Maybe they're dead or occupied with other things. Or maybe someone took them out along with Gareth.

I was thinking of having someone behind the scenes arming and training the Gobs, and bringing in bigger baddies like Giants or even some conpatriots of Obould.

-You could theoretically have Bregan D'aerthe as the "power" behind the massive influx of monsterous Humanoids. Now that Gareth is dead, and the rest of his companions are "out of the way", however you accomplish that, Jarlarxle/Kimmuriel figures they might as well retake the place, having already invested in it.

-Perhaps the Kiaransaleean Drow living in the area might have something to do with something, as Kiaransalee's status might be changing in the next book in the Lady Penitent Trilogy, which will be released shortly.

I like the Bregan D'aerthe idea as well. Or perhaps both Jaraxle and an old cohort of the Witch King could be moving in at the same time. Power vacuums tend to do that

The queen sounds like a terrible ruler. You could do a bounty hunter mission, but it might be more interesting to try to replace her (not necessarily though bloody or devious means, but that's an option if the PCs aren't so nice!).;)
