Info on Larloch [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-19-07, 07:32 PM I've been a fan of the Realms for many years, but I've only heard bits and pieces of Larloch, this seemingly uber-lich. Anyone know where I can find more info on him (history, stats, long-term goals for Realms Domination etc..) I freely admit that most of my Realmslore comes from 2e supplements and novels, so could easily have missed any any info in 3e manuals. Thanks in advance for the help

A short story in Realms of Elves has Larloch show up at the end.
He's the opening narrator of Netheril: Empire of Magic, which can be downloaded for free at http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads.
There's prolly a bunch of stuff in Ed's Replies over at Candlekeep.

-Most detailed Realmslore, on any subject, comes from 2e. Third-Edition hasn't been particularly helpful in this regard- especially compared to the plethora of information provided in 2e.

-Maybe, who knows. He does have a whole plethora of Liches.

-I, personally, think the Lichlord was destroyed. In the adventure, the PCs have something like 10 rounds to fight with a Lichlord who has no magic, half Hit Points, and no phylactery. In other words, if they attacked him, he would have been vanquished for good. After all he did to them, who would have been convinced by his sweet-talking in that minute, you know?

02-23-07, 03:21 PM How many Lichs does Lorloch have? Does anyone know the layout of Warlocks keep? Has Lorlock been updated to 3.5ed? Does he use a spell to control their phylacteries? Or just binds them to his negative energy life force? How does he control them?:confused:

02-23-07, 07:46 PM LEoF puts it at 60. The short story in Realms of the Elves has him lose dozens upon dozens of liches. Currently, I'd put him at having 1 or 2. However, Larloch obtains liches like we do baseball cards.....

-That's why he's considered so powerful. Don't worry, though. If he wanted to take over Faerūn, he would have done so by now. His interests lie other places. He is very interested in Silver Fire, for example.

WOW! Sweet write up. But where can one find the Arcane Lord19/Variator 5 class informstion? Arcane Lord was in Dragon right? Never heard of Variator? Maybe I missed it. Please let me know. Interesting stuff even if it Isn’t Canon.

Although the boards version of Lorlock was a bit overpowered I like it better then the one from Lords Of Darkness. The LOD version just seemed week with what I had heard about Lorlock. Also the LOD write up was done before the Epic levels hand book came out. I don’t know if I would have use for either one in my game. You might as well send your PC’s off to fight an Avatar at that point!

Oh I have the Issue! I was wondering if that prestige class was even balanced. It seems like a pretty powerful class compared to other prestige classes.

Unless a DM is actually going to toss poor pc's up against beings in the category of Larloch, it's kind of pointless to give them full stats (as stats can't even get close to representing Larloch's true power). Either way, pc's go sqoosh:P

Still impressive to see them though. Also if you have one of those guys who are the “how did he kill us all types” you can just throw him the incredibly powerful stat sheet that says they go smash! Hard to whine about your PC’s death when you see if with your own eyes.:D
