| cheyne_daak04-15-08, 11:10 AM | Hi everybody, Yesterday, I was finishing one of NPC for my next campaign when I realise that I knew so few about the link between Toril and Faerie. I know that the Star Elves have a connection with this plane and that a LeShay city reappears in the Moonshaes in 1375. But that’s almost all. My NPC is a member of the Gatekeepers, a group whose purpose is to prevent any unexpected intrusion in Faerie by the various portals of Faerun and fight against aberrations invasions. These are her stats: http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/9369/nymphoh0.th.jpg Sahiris “Feywild Keeper”, Watcher of the Emerald Garden CR 23 Female Greenbound Nymph Drui5/ Planar Shepherd 10 CG Medium Plant (Augmented Fey, Extraplanar) Init +4 Senses low-light vision 60ft, Tremosense 60ft; Listen +27, Spot +27 Languages Common, Druidic, Elven, Sylvan ------------------------------------------------------------- AC 44, touch 30, flat-footed 24 (+7 Dex, +13 Deflection, +8 Armor, +6 Natural) Hp 160 (21HD); Fast Healing 3 DR 10/Magic and Slashing and Cold Iron Immune mind-affecting effects, poison, sleep effects, paralysis, polymorph, stunning and critical hits. Advancement by character class -------------------------------------------------------- Hook "'' Description Sahiris is a beautiful little nymph with green hairs. She has a powerful connection with the world of faerie and guards most of the portal in north faerun to this plane. She was a servant of the Pillywiggin Queen Ariel in the Seelie Court before she took his charge of Gatekeeper. -------------------------------------------------------- Blinding Beauty (Su): This ability affects all humanoids within 30 feet of a nymph. Those who look directly at a nymph must succeed on a DC 26 Fortitude save or be blinded permanently as though by the blindness spell. A nymph can suppress or resume this ability as a free action. The save DC is Charisma-based. Stunning Glance (Su): As a standard action, a wrathful nymph can stun a creature within 30 feet with a look. The target creature must succeed on a DC 26 Fortitude save or be stunned for 2d4 rounds. The save DC is Charisma-based. Unearthly Grace (Su): A nymph adds her Charisma modifier as a bonus on all her saving throws and as a deflection bonus to her Armor Class. (The statistics block already reflects these bonuses). Skills: A nymph has a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform some special action or avoid a hazard. She can always choose to take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered. She can use the run action while swimming, provided she swims in a straight line. Grapple Bonus (Ex): Sahiris has a +4 on her grapple checks. Spontaneous Casting: A druid can channel stored spell energy into summoning spells that she hasn’t prepared ahead of time. She can “lose” a prepared spell in order to cast any summon nature’s ally spell of the same level or lower. Animal Companion (Ex): Sahiris has chosen a dire wolf as animal companion. By means of miracle spell and due to her high connection with the natural world, she has given him the greenbound template. Nature Sense (Ex): Sahiris gains a +2 bonus on Knowledge (nature) and Survival checks. Wild Empathy (Ex): Sahiris can improve the attitude of an animal. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check made to improve the attitude of a person. Sahiris has a +24 to this check. Woodland Stride (Ex): Sahiris may move through any sort of undergrowth (such as natural thorns, briars, overgrown areas, and similar terrain) at her normal speed and without taking damage or suffering any other impairment. However, thorns, briars, and overgrown areas that have been magically manipulated to impede motion still affect her. Trackless Step (Ex): Sahiris leaves no trail in natural surroundings and cannot be tracked. She may choose to leave a trail if so desired. Resist Nature’s Lure (Ex): Sahiris gains a +4 bonus on saving throws against the spell-like abilities of fey. Wild Shape (Su): Sahiris has the ability to turn herself into any Tiny to Huge animal, plant or fey and back again five times per day. Instead she can choose to wildshape into a magical beast, an elemental or an outsider from Faerie plane (however the last two options cost two use of her wildshape ability). Planar Attunement (Ex): Sahiris and her animal companion ignore any harmful effect from the plan of Faerie. Planar Bubble (Su): three times per day, Sahiris can wrap herself a portion of the plane of Faerie. Planar Self: Sahiris gains a damage reduction of 10/magic and the extraplanar trait. Whenever she is in a manifest zone of Faerie, she gains a +1 bonus to her caster level for all her druid spells. ------------------------------------------------------------ Sources PHB 3.5, PHB II, DMG 3.5, Planar Handbook (3E), Faith of Eberron (3.5E), Player’s Guide to Faerun (3.5E), Lost Empire of Faerun (3.5E) Nature’s Fury: This +5 aberration bane quarterstaff allows use of the following spells. - Earthquake (1 charge) - Whirlwind (heightened to 10th level, 1 charge) - Fire storm (heightened to 10th level, 1 charge) After all charges are used up from a staff of nature’s fury, it remains a +5 quarterstaff with no special abilities. Caster Level: 21st; Prerequisites: Craft Staff, Craft Epic Staff, Heighten Spell, Improved Heighten Spell, earthquake, fire storm, summon monster I (or summon nature’s ally I), whirlwind; Market Price: 500,000 gp. Share Spells (Ex): At the druid’s option, she may have any spell (but not any spell-like ability) she casts upon herself also affect her animal companion. The animal companion must be within 5 feet of her at the time of casting to receive the benefit. Devotion (Ex): Raagis gains a +4 morale bonus on Will saves against enchantment spells and effects. Scent (Ex): Raagis can detect opponents within 30 feet by sense of smell. If the opponent is upwind, the range increases to 60 feet; if downwind, it drops to 15 feet. Strong scents, such as smoke or rotting garbage, can be detected at twice the ranges noted above. Overpowering scents, such as skunk musk or troglodyte stench, can be detected at triple normal range. Trip (Ex): A dire wolf that hits with a bite attack can attempt to trip its opponent (+16 check modifier) as a free action without making a touch attack or provoking an attack of opportunity. If the attempt fails, the opponent cannot react to trip the dire wolf. Skills: A dire wolf has a +2 racial bonus on Hide, Listen, Move Silently, and Spot checks. And a few rules I use: FAERIE TRAITS The Plane of Faerie has the following traits: • Light Gravity. • Infinite Size: At the very least, the Plane of Faerie is as large as the Material Plane. • Alterable Morphic. • No Elemental or Energy Traits: Sections of the plane may have the minor positive-dominant trait or minor negative-dominant trait, but Faerie as a whole does not. • Mildly Neutral-Aligned. • Enhanced Magic: The Plane of Faerie is highly magical, and all arcane and druid spells cast there are empowered, and extended (as if prepared or cast with the appropriate feats). The fair folk do not care much for the pious of any faith, so divine magic is unaffected. • Flowing Time: For every day spent on the Plane of Faerie, a week passes on the Material Plane. But unlike most planes with the flowing time trait, time lost on the Plane of Faerie catches up with the traveler. Non-natives who spend time on the Plane of Faerie and then return to a plane with the normal time trait instantly "catch up." Those affected may be ravenous if they have not eaten in weeks as measured by Material Plane time. A visitor who stays a long time on the Plane of Faerie may die if "catching up" with Material Plane time takes her beyond her normal life span. The natives of Faerie are unaffected by this phenomenon, and only the most astute natives mention it to visitors from the Material Plane. Fey Blood (General) You have one or more fey as ancestors, and as a result your druid powers come naturally to you rather than from any great insight into the nature of the world. Prerequisites: Cha 11+, ability to speak the Sylvan language, humanoid or giant type. Benefit: Your druid spellcasting powers are based on Charisma rather than Wisdom. To prepare or cast a druid spell, you must have a Charisma score of at least 10 + the spell's level, and you gain bonus spells based on your Charisma score. The DC for saving throws against your druid spells is 10 + the spell's level + your Charisma modifier. This feat does not alter the means by which you prepare or cast druid spells; you must still prepare spells in advance, as normal. Because you are using your natural fey connection to nature as the conduit for your magical powers rather than any great insight, your spells are considered to be partially fey magic. Any druid of 4th level or higher with the Resist Nature's Lure class ability gains a +2 bonus to saving throws against your druid spells. Special: You may only select this feat at 1st level, though you need not possess the druid class at that time. Your DM may limit this feat to certain appropriate races that would be likely to have crossbred with fey over the history of the campaign world. Fey Shape (General) Due to your close blood ties, you may turn yourself into the shape of a fey. Prerequisites: Fey Blood, wild shape ability (4/day). Benefit: You may use your wild shape ability to take the shape of a fey creature with which you are familiar. You gain all of the extraordinary and supernatural abilities of the fey, but not the spells or spell-like abilities. You do not gain supernatural abilities that require a specific fey-crafted object or terrain feature (such as a grig's fiddle, a satyr's pipes, or a dryad's tree dependence), and you may only turn into fey whose Hit Dice are no greater than your druid level. You may not change gender as a result of wild shape, so certain single-gender fey (dryads, nymphs, satyrs) will be unavailable as well. Being in fey shape grants a +10 circumstance bonus for Disguise skill checks when pretending to be a fey. So here are my questions: - Are there any known portals to Faerie in the North? - Is the Seelie Court a group of influence in the Realms, as the Archdevils or the demons are? - Will the Eladrin be removed form Arvandor and the Gates of the Moon to Feywild in 4E? - Are there any resources on the LeShay in the Realms? |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin04-15-08, 01:04 PM | Keep in mind that 3E Eladrin are different from 4E Eladrin--that is, there are different definitions for the same name. It's hard to say, at this point, exactly how the FR setting will be rearranged for the 4E Realms (the FRCG just isn't out yet!), but based on what I read about the Feywild in Worlds and Monsters, that's where the Eladrin will be. |
| Lord Karsus04-15-08, 11:08 PM | - Are there any known portals to Faerie in the North? -Yes. There are portals to the Plane of Faerie everywhere. - Is the Seelie Court a group of influence in the Realms, as the Archdevils or the demons are? -Do they have influence? In certain circles of Fey, Sylvan creatures, as well as Elves, they do. As much widespread influence as certain Archdevils or Demon Lords? Probably not, but that's your call as DM. My personal opinion is no. - Will the Eladrin be removed form Arvandor and the Gates of the Moon to Feywild in 4E? -Probably not. Eladrin have been the traditional servators of the Seldarine since at least 2e. There's no reason they'd suddenly all disappear. - Are there any resources on the LeShay in the Realms? | cheyne_daak04-16-08, 10:33 AM | Another question: Are the Leshay members of the Seelie Court ? Before reading the article on the Moonshaes, I have never seen any information on Leshay in the Realms. |
| Lord Karsus04-16-08, 10:47 AM | Another question: Are the Leshay members of the Seelie Court ? Before reading the article on the Moonshaes, I have never seen any information on Leshay in the Realms. -The LeShay were created much after the D&D Seelie Court was created. As such, they were not originally affiliated with the Seelie Court. They are Fey creatures, however, so it would make sense that there are LeShay who are servitors of the deities that compose the Seelie Court. |
