Not in my realms.

Heya,

For 4e... We don't know. (If it's 10 years in the future, then maybe not, if it's 100 years in the future, then yes, it is very likely he'll be dead.)

For now... No, he's still alive and kicking.

-Not last time I checked. What made you think he was dead?

Taught I read it somewhere.

-Well, don't worry. He's safe...

...for now! :evillaugh

Feh, ace the little goody-goody punk, it's all the rage of late...

He gets killed by the shapeling whose posing as one of the Masked Lords of Waterdeep.

Oh wait, that was in my last RP. God that was a fun RP. WHOO!!!

Don't even get me started on them killing Nindil Jalbuck...

I never knew him, so I can't say. But aren't you happy that Peirgon is dead? Of course his daughter would take the Open Lordship after him. She's been slowly groomed for it even if she has been Plane Hopping for the past... it was 7 years right?

Pity... he was from the 2e incarnation of Waterdeep. Best lord there was really... so of course he had to die. And no, I'm not happy about the idea of Peirgeiron being dead by and large... I liked him. Somehow I just don't equate 'Darker and more Evil Positive' with more realistic... maybe I'm old enough to still identify the idea of venturing with the whole PC vs Evil and making a difference to stop just the sort of crap they're plopping on our heads for whatever reasons they're doing it for today.

Its the Emo generation. I never thought that I'd miss the Goths, but they were way better than the Emo's. And I always preferred the neutrals facing against evil. Cause it's normal people who don't always do the best things, but when they face true evil they do the right thing. (Our PC's were mostly neutral or lawful neutral.) Some were good, but only one of us passed the Will save after the Entangle/Alchemist fire incident. Burning things alive normally doesn't allow lawful or good alignments.

And chucking dead bodies at them and then putting a javelin in the chest of one of those dead bodies doesn't help either. *Raises hand as guilty*

Wait that made me think. Alchemy isn't dependent on the Weave is it? Cause if it isn't, then cure light injury or cure disease potions would still work.

Being one of those Goths, I can assure you were still around to some extent... well, old school goth anyway, not one of these horrid little Hot Topics/Marilyn Manson clone things calling themselves goths lately. But that's neither here nor there.

And no, alchemy isn't dependent on the Weave usually, although as far as I'm aware, the actual Cure/Remove potions do rely on spellcasting, the non spell versions probably just grant save bonuses and natural healing rate increases, not actual 'magic' healing.

I grew up with the mid-90's goth. (Class of 2000) So, yeah I know.

Hmmm well it'd be better than nothing. Which is what the regular Medieval people had. It'd probably put them in the same boat as we are right now. I still hope they give a sourcebook for Lantan. This is tailor made for them. I know I'm a Gond fanatic.

Started with Goth in the mid-80's... ;)

Actually, if they shifted the world more towards a fuedal model it wouldn't surprise me in the least... and I mean that in the whole serf/lord/overlord sense, not the strange one where it just seemingly refers to a monarchal system of government I've seen running around of late... which would make me leave the setting as fast as my feet could carry me.

And it would be nice to see a sourcebook for Lantan really... not really that into Gond, more of a Sunite myself, but considering how often its played into the history of other places that have been covered, you'd think it would have merited its own major mention.

I know it would be nice considering the amount it's footnoted, but no they don't do a sourcebook. It's to spite me I swear.

Well I think what might happen is a split. Some countries will switch back to that feudal state. Some will attempt to have strong monarchies (After years of civil war between merchant nobility) And a few will become Venitian Republics. Ergo not Republics as we think of them but a merchant elite. Sorta an evolved form of the Masked Lords of Waterdeep. That's what I think will happen. I don't think any one solution will be found. Coping mechanizism will be different.

I see some places with a Merchant Republic and musket regulars. I see others who use pure knightly feudal systems with serfs and others. But, I don't see areas like Baldur's Gate and Waterdeep with their strong yeoman traditions reverting to a feudal society. There are too many examples of people trying to do that and failing in Waterdeep history. So if they try it again they are just retarded. The writers I mean.

Heh, I know the historical meaning of Rebublic quite well, particularly in a Rennaisance context. And I would heartily agree that we'll see a plethora of governing systems rise out of the ashes, much as we see with the current Realms incarnation. ;)

Although I wouldn't be all that surprised to see them try to turn Waterdeep and the like into Fuedal societies... it has been kinda hinted at in the 3.5e Waterdeep book that dark times are a comin'...
Keahi19

But with Waterdeep rising again. I've studied Waterhavian culture in detail from dozens of books, and I see them reverting to feudal society about as readily as Venice would have in the Rennescience. Machiavelli told us that it's much better to leave Republic's their freedoms as they will cause nothing, but trouble if you try to keep them down. I wouldn't be surprised, but that would be a major factor in killing 4.0 for me. Waterdeep becoming a feudal society would do it. Yep it'd kill it just right.

They better keep Faerun's diversity, that's what made it special. If they cookie cutter it, I'll be royally royally flaming mad.

Hopefully dark times means the Hordes to the North and the Spellplague.
Stigger

Cookie cuttering seems inevitable if they're bringing it more into line with the rest of the settings. Something tells me that I'm not buying into 4e at all to be honest...
Keahi19

I don't know, I'm kinda considering a curiousity. Not that I'll buy all the books, but I am going to give it as much of a chance as going into borders and reading the FR book. For free of course.

is Lord Piergeiron dead?

Let's see... 4th edition = all characters of any importance or interest must die...

so yeah, in 4th ed, he's dead... bet on it.
Stigger

I'd chuckle over that if I didn't agree with the basic premise...
