| Cariyaga06-15-07, 01:08 AM | Is there an SRD or something else for FR. I need to know, as I'm in a campaign and don't want to buy the source books. |
| Ranger REG06-15-07, 02:12 AM | Is there an SRD or something else for FR. I need to know, as I'm in a campaign and don't want to buy the source books. :uh-huh: Why? Do you think they should be doing this for free? :bored: No, they most likely won't. FR is one of their cash cows. |
| Cariyaga06-15-07, 02:18 AM | Drats and bebother. I guess I'll have to steal some of my friend's sourcebooks. |
| souldnce906-15-07, 02:29 AM | Get a JOB Hippie! No jk :D I think it is worth investing in at least the source book, and you can probably get it really cheap on Amazon. |
| Ranger REG06-15-07, 02:34 AM | jk :D I'm not. :uh-huh: |
| Cariyaga06-15-07, 02:38 AM | Uh...I'm kind of only 14. Yeah. What's the name of the sourcebook, anyway? |
| Karsus the Mad06-15-07, 02:43 AM | Uh...I'm kind of only 14. Yeah. What's the name of the sourcebook, anyway? The Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (3e) and the Player's Guide to Faerun (which updates the FRCS to 3.5). Maybe try your local library. I often use the library to borrow sourcebooks when I only need small pieces of it (prc's, feats, small reference, the like). |

Or better yet. At 14, do more house chores to increase your allowance. And stop spending it on videogames. It's killing pen-n-paper roleplaying games. |
| Cariyaga06-15-07, 02:52 AM | I don't get allowance. |
| Karsus the Mad06-15-07, 03:10 AM | Or better yet. At 14, do more house chores to increase your allowance. And stop spending it on videogames. It's killing pen-n-paper roleplaying games. Good idea, if one gets allowance:) I work tho', so bills and food come first. Or have PnP producers/retailers stop overpricing books to the nth degree. When a book says "29.95 USD" on the back, but the gaming store (the only option most kids have to buy sourcebooks around here) marks it up to 60 Euro (around 70+ or so USD), it has a bad habit of turning people of limited income (such as 14 year olds) off of PnP. Even most adults I know refuse to pay that. Not WotC fault, but I sure wish there was some way of enforcing cover prices. Thus far it has negated virtually all efforts of me forming a gaming group here:weep: |
| danielmayer06-15-07, 03:39 AM | Not WotC fault, but I sure wish there was some way of enforcing cover prices. basically, we have - in Germany... but the only readable and thus important englisch versions are "imported" from USA (more likely from UK imho) and therefore are excluded from the law and custumizable in prize - sad, sad.... But I saw some Sourcebooks around 40 Euro, which is only around the double of 29,xx USD... :waits: Same is for every single novel not in German language.... and the translations are really, really bad.... - :nonono: |
| Fabius Maximus06-15-07, 06:29 AM | Daniel, the 'Buchpreisbindung' makes the translated source books almost impossible to buy. The english versions are still cheaper. As or the novels, remember that the translated ones are split in two and sold for at least 7 Euro per piece. So you pay at least 14 Euro for a book that costs 5 Euro if you buy it in the original version. |
| Esnapand06-15-07, 08:37 AM | Where do you buy your sourcebooks in Germany? I buy them online and they are usually cheaper than the 1 to 1 USD/EUR exchange rate. And they charge no shipping fee. At the very least, the gameshops around here (Frankfurt, Mannheim, etc.) sell them using the concept of Dollar prices equal Euro prices. However, I really think the FRCS is worth the 39 USD, it is the sourcebook I mostly read when I'm bored o_O |
| XHereticX06-15-07, 08:52 AM | Uh...I'm kind of only 14. Yeah. What's the name of the sourcebook, anyway? I'm only 15, I work for my money by mowing lawns, washing dishes, and etc. small chores that I make my parents pay me for. I also get money on holidays. I use only my own cash to buy sourcebooks, like souldunce said, they are pretty cheap on amazon. |
| Alediran06-15-07, 09:17 AM | I'm lucky I work and pay my own bills. Just wednesday I picked up City of the Spider Queen (too bad it's in spanish, but I don't own an international credit card to buy in amazon and I have to ask my father to use his, I'm waiting for A Grand History of the Realms to make a big purchase because shippment costs are too big for single book purchases) |

For bigger packages, Amazon.com is way less expensive, despite shipping and handling fees. You're lucky with your gaming shops. The ones I know charge higher prices. |

In the Orcish Outpost fantasy gaming store in Mainz most FR Sourcebooks are in their USD prices minus 1 or 2 euros. Quite good I'd say, although I can get some books cheaper off amazon or ebay. Nonetheless, if anyone sold Faiths and Pantheons and/or Races of Faerun for reasonable prices I'd consider that an Offer I cannot Refuse. :D |

Still have to find the Wizard's Well in Mannheim. I usually order my sourcebooks at dragonworld, I think they have a shop in Hamburg, or Hannover? I don't know at the moment. But it's quite a good online shop. |
| MarkusTay6306-15-07, 07:35 PM | It works both ways. I can't even find a copy of Mien Kamf. Not that I'm a hater, but it would make an interesting read from a sociological point of view. :P Yeah, I get 20% off from my game store, so I try to buy there. I only get 15% from the bookstores, and that 5% adds up. You guys need to find some folks willing to do an exchange program. I used to run the International Mini Exchange on CMON, because certain miniatures are unavailable in certain countries (even here). You just have to write 'toys' on that tariff shipping label, and remember NOT to insure it. I had one guy mail a model to the UK and insured it for $500 dollars! The Brits wanted to charge the recipient tax on the $500, so the item just sat in the post office for a couple of months until it was sent back. I even sent a complete set of Harry Potter books over to a friend in France, and he sent me a bunch of miniatures of equal value. The barter system rocks, you should try it! :D |
| XHereticX06-15-07, 07:40 PM | I can't even find a copy of Mien Kamf.  , ummm, look outside your window, are you sure the feds aren't there? |
| The Simbul06-16-07, 01:03 AM | The only campaign accessory book you truly "need" to run a game in this setting is the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, everything else you need to build your adventure or the world around it can be extrapolated from the DMG, MM, PHB, and the minimal but viable information found in the primary FR book. As for cost concerns, you could easily find a used or discounted copy. The rest of the Forgotten Realms accessories exist to either enhance character options (Races of Faerun, Magic of Faerun, etc), extend villain/encounter/storyline options (Monsters of Faerun, Lords of Darkness, Lost Empires of Faerun etc), or to do the worldbuilding work for you with regard to a specific region, regional group, or city (Silver Marches, Shining South, Underdark, Unapproachable East, City of Splendors: Waterdeep, etc). All of them are useful and interesting, but none of them are necessary. |
| Dark Wizard06-16-07, 01:12 AM | Plus there's a ton of free downloads provided in the downloads section of the WotC site. |

| Karsus the Mad06-16-07, 07:43 AM | Find a better merchant. Or order online. Stop funneling your money into videogames and music downloads. In a city where there's a single game store (as I said above), and most people in the gaming age category lack the ability to order online (no credit card, as I said above) equals they're not purchasing any gaming materials around here. If they're lucky their parents order it, but I can only assume that's not many given my complete failure to form a gaming group. The gaming store around here is also going out of business. Noone buys anything <shrugs>. No clue where your fascination with video games and music downloads come from, as I do neither. I consider both an even greater waste than buying pointless pnp or miniatures. Don't other countries have laws against price-gouging? Should WotC get international lawyers to look into it? It's not nearly as bad in the capital. There prices are much lower (still higher compared to cover price tho'), but in the far cold north, it's simply rediculous. I gave a list of books for my father to get me from the states when he visits next month, but other than those I haven't purchased a single book since moving here. |
| Esnapand06-16-07, 06:07 PM | I believe there are no laws for "fixed prices" in most countries if the books are imported. But regarding the payment involving credit cards... isn't there a possibility to pay by sending cash? Or something like collecting the money directly from your bank account (I'm not sure if this is possible in the United States, but it's pretty handy if you're 14 years old and don't own a credit card). By the way, what about putting the FRCS on the christmas wishlist? I got it that way :D Of course, that means waiting another... uhm... six months. |
| Ranger REG06-17-07, 02:20 AM | No clue where your fascination with video games and music downloads come from, as I do neither. I consider both an even greater waste than buying pointless pnp or miniatures. Sorry, that's directed to my American colleagues than anyone outside the US territories. |

Oh, you are living in or near my region? Nice. And thanks for mentioning dragonworld, I'll check that one out :). Edit: Holy Jesus, why didn't I find that shop earlier? At last, I can get Races of Faerun and Faiths and Pantheons (though in German and thus somewhat more expensive, but whatever). :dancin: |

Hell, cash in on the laziness of others, good momey in mowing lawns these days. A days worth of work could net you money enough to buy 3 sources books. |
