| Passivearmada11-02-07, 11:45 PM | Can anyone even try to guess all the poseessions Jarlaxle has? I know there's a list somewhere, but I think the list would be very long. I know of numerous bags and hats of holdings, a diatryma feather, boots of chosen audibilty, an eyepatch of mind protection/seeing, bracers of unlimited daggers that can grow in size, a wand that shoots green goo. Anything else that immediately comes to mind? |
| _Jarlaxle_11-03-07, 06:33 AM | A Belt which can grow to a rope of any length, a Symbol for levitation, magical earrings but i forgott what they do atm, a magical hole which he can lay everywhere to create a real hole there, an object which catapults him through the planes when he destroyes it so he can escape the current situation, several magical wands (fireballs, magical portals and so on), a buckle which absorbs magical attacks... hmm thats all I remember at the moment ;) |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit11-03-07, 07:49 PM | boots of elven kind, with a custom ghost sound placed on them, so they are as quiet or louad as he wants at will. the earring either protects his mind or is a storage area. a button that is a small Dimensional space. an eyepatch that acts as a ring of mindshielding, and he gains an insight/spot bonus with it. 6 morphing returning daggers. bracers of protection (high maybe 6 or 8), a hat with an extradimensional space in it as well, with a Diaytra feather in it. Im not sure what his cloak does, but it has to be magical, a cloak of elvenkind or resastance at the very least. |

| Phelf_Der_Zemit11-03-07, 10:18 PM | no, it's to flashy and it wouldnt last in the sun. |
| Orcish-Firebat11-03-07, 11:39 PM | One of his earrings can grow and turn into a grapnel. According to some stats I read about him, His cape, acts similar to a robe of Scintillating Colors. Here are the abilities of the robe, I am guessing the cape would act in some similar way. Robe of Scintillating Colors The wearer of this robe can cause the garment to display a shifting pattern of incredible hues, color after color cascading from the upper part of the robe to the hem in sparkling rainbows of dazzling light. The colors daze those near the wearer, conceal the wearer, and illuminate the surroundings. It takes 1 full round after the wearer speaks the command word for the colors to start flowing on the robe. The colors create the equivalent of a gaze attack with a 30-foot range. Those who look at the wearer are dazed for 1d4+1 rounds (Will DC 16 negates). This is a mind-affecting pattern effect. Every round of continuous scintillation of the robe gives the wearer better concealment. The miss chance on attacks against the wearer starts at 10% and increases by 10% each round until it reaches 50% (total concealment). The robe illuminates a 30-foot radius continuously. The effect can be used no more than a total of 10 rounds per day. |
| Blibbering_Humdinger11-04-07, 01:21 AM | Jarlaxle possesses a Deus Ex Machina of Holding which is undetectible by any means, wizardly or clerical, and contains whatever sort of magical item Jarlaxle could use to worm his way out of any given situation, provided he didn't have one elsewhere on his person. The Deus Ex Machina of Holding is located on the heel of his left foot, and the command word to open it is Cop-Out. :P |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit11-04-07, 09:34 AM | oh, i laughed i cried. |

I think the character is great, but I still can see the truth about him. |
| BurningTiger11-10-07, 08:07 PM | I read somewhere that his eye-patch does something different depending on which eye he puts it over. I can't remember what nor where I read this though. Also the diatryma (sp?) feather that was mentioned above can be used to summon a diatryma (a large prehistoric flightless bird). |
| Orcish-Firebat11-10-07, 09:25 PM | Truth. I think the character is great, but I still can see the truth about him. Might I inquire this truth about him? His surplus of magical items has been known to blind people when they try to scan him, I would consider this a power of his combined items. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-10-07, 09:34 PM | Might I inquire this truth about him? I like Jarlaxle, but the truth about him is that he is a walking, talking Deus Ex Machina. |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit11-10-07, 10:22 PM | lets keep this civialized... anywho, the eyepatch seems to do alot of different things in every novel so it wouldnt suprise me if changing eyes changes powers, like ive read it helps shield the mind, summons fireballs, helps (not impeed) his vision. all that good stuff. and what else would the feather be used for. |

Fireballs? Are you serious?! figures  *Imagines Jarlaxle shooting fireballs from his eyes* and what else would the feather be used for. Apparently anything Salvatore wants it to do. Regardless of it actually making any sense |
| Zsych11-10-07, 11:34 PM | Assuming that a magical object can be made... someone with huge resources and contacts may well be able to acquire or steal it, and the unexpected is exactly what someone like Jarlaxle would want(in WWII, they used to have plain sheets of paper that would turn into maps if you ****** on them :P) |
| BurningTiger11-10-07, 11:42 PM | Hmm... good point |
| CreationOmega11-11-07, 03:48 PM | He is the only Drow I like, he uses eveything to his advantage and doesn't jugde you on being a "surface dweller", but rather your actions as a person. He adapts to any item/envoriment/situation when need be. As for his possesions, I'm sure when his character is over with, he will claim a large majoirty of any variety of set items. |
| Orcish-Firebat11-11-07, 11:19 PM | He also has a knack for stealing from Lichs, God knows what kind of shineys he gets. I never read road of the Patriarch but I would imagine that skull used for raising dead humans and the other for dead dragons would be handy. That is if he still has them. |
| Blibbering_Humdinger11-12-07, 04:23 AM | Don't get me wrong, Jarlaxle is one of my favorite characters and all, but now that the Entreri/Jarlaxle plot is over and done with, I'd like it if Jarlaxle reassumed his old role of background villain/support character. He's far too crafty and has too many broken trinkets to really stay in the forefront for long without becoming ridiculous. FTR, I don't think he has quite become ridiculous yet, and his knack for letting his ambition get him and his allies in trouble as of late has made up for his deus factor--but he can only do that so many times before his "crafty manipulator" image crashes down atop him, and as he rarely has much trouble avoiding death and calamity, he's better suited to the role he played in books like The Legacy, Starless Night, Siege of Darkness, and The Silent Blade. His front-row-center roll in the Sellswords Trilogy was good, but it's been milked for all the story value it's worth, or looks like it's been, so he's best hanging back from here on in. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-12-07, 06:51 PM | Great point--some characters just don't work as well when they are thrust into the role of protagonist. |
| DM_Shonuff11-15-07, 07:33 PM | My current campaign is running a group of 7 through a sort of treasure hunt. Rumor has it that Jarlaxle found his way to a southern city and has died. He has left his items in a particular location and a map to it's finding is being circulated. Anyone from the 80s? The Lost Treasure of one-Eyed Willy (a.k.a. Jarlaxle) Just thought i'd throw that in there for some analgous humor. All his items that Bob or others have bothered telling us about have already been named above...or i'd add to it myself. |
| CreationOmega11-15-07, 08:12 PM | All of you do seem to forget that his Possessions is not always a gain, but at some instances, a doomed exsistence. The Servant of the Shard anyone? If it were not for Artemis, Jarlaxell would be dead because of his lust for collecting and controlling everything. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-15-07, 09:26 PM | But 99% of the time, Jarlaxle's stuff is helpful, if not essential. |
| Orcish-Firebat11-15-07, 10:23 PM | The Crystal Shard was a special case. How often do you find a sentient artifact, that can bend you to it's will without someone even as clever as Jarlaxle noticing it at first. It basically was designed to kill the wielder through their ambition, and because of the artifacts immense power some of those ambitions where quite possible. In general the more powerful equipment you have the better, just as long as it doesn't clash with each others powers. Right now I am thinking of the boots of phasing, now those and dangerous and funny. |
