11-16-07, 05:49 PM Ok, with the topic the other day about this guys vs that guy, it got me wondering.
Is it listed anywhere what discipline of psion Kimmuriel is? I don't have my psionic handbook here to look up the names for each but i'm guessing some kind of telekenetic with all the energy storage and release powers then the mass amount of teleporting he does.

Kimmuriel was created before 3.0 & 3.5 so he doesn't follow the current psionics rules. Back in the old rules, as long as your stat was high enough you could cross pick powers from other disciplines. Psionics was totally different.

As far as I know, his stats were never officially updated to 3.5. I think his stats were in the old Menzoberrazan boxset.

11-18-07, 05:20 PM Yes, they have to specialize at first level. Most powers are universal but from a certain discipline, but some are available to psions with the proper discipline only.

He was definitely my favorite male character in the Realms but I tended to stay away from books he was in cause I am not a fan of Drizzt.

I'd place him at around 15th level Psion. And Hostile Empathic Transfer is the only way to simulate 2nd edition Kinetic Control in 3e.

Psions don't give up access to any disciplines, even though all of them "specialize" in one. They simply gain access to a special discipline power list, which contains 1 to 3 powers of the relevant discipline that are just slightly better than the general psion powers. You don't have to choose any powers known from the discipline power list if you don't want to, and if you take the proper feat, you can actually learn other disciplines' restricted powers.

Also, class skill lists are a bit different for each discipline.

Additionally, Complete Psionic has this "universalist" psion, called the erudite, though it also has a slightly different way of gaining new powers (more like wizard, instead of the sorcerer-like psion).

11-19-07, 03:56 AM Just in case, neither Kimmuriel, nor this Rai-guy or most of the other drow characters the scimitar-wielder faced up to in the novels after Keeper's Dale have ever seen a statblock, or even a mentioning of their classes.
You can, of course, hazard a guess from what you read in the novels.

Let me think. He forst appeared in... I think it was The Servant of the Shard if you read that before The Silent Blade. He was in those and the Road of the Patriarch. Please correct me if I'm worng ;).
He's always interested me, as do all psions. I think I should be able to contribute, as I just ordered the XPHB3.5 from Amazon.com (yay!).

He MIGHT have shown up in 'Starless Night', when Artemis was in Menzoberranzan, though I'm not sure. I don't seem to recall him there, but it's been a while since I've read that far back. Pretty sure that 'Servant of the Shard' was his (and Rai-Guy's) first appearance(s).

I remember Kimmuriel using that power that takes the damage and transfers it back to the attacker on Artemis during his duel/"final showdown" with Drizzt, which I'm pretty sure happens in 'The Silent Blade'. Now whether Rai-Guy is in that book, I don't remember.

I know he was in "Servant of the Shard" and I think "Silent Blade" & "Starless Night" as I read all 3 of those.

Just found this on Wiki:

In Road of the Patriarch, Kimmuriel and Jarlaxle meet several times to discuss how Bregan D'aerthe could benefit in the kingdom of Damara. When Jarlaxle and Entreri declare independence from King Gareth Dragonsbane from their newly conquered Castle Perilous, Gareth's army rides to challenge them and Kimmuriel decides to help Jarlaxle escape with one of his portals. However, Entreri stays back and gets captured by Gareth, so in order to free him, Kimmuriel and Jarlaxle take Bregan D'aerthe to conquer the Citadel of Assassins, which opposed Gareth. In the struggle, Kimmuriel plays a crucial role in ensuring that Archmage Knellict, second-in-command of the Citadel, is unable to wreak havoc upon the invading drow by preventing him from casting any spells. After Knellict is convinced to not do anything foolhardy, Kimmuriel helps another drow wizard cast a spell to make one of the human wizards look just like Knellict in order to present Gareth with what appears to be the head of the archmage. Kimmuriel also saves Artemis Entreri's life for the third time at the orders of Jarlaxle when his half-elf lover, Calihye, attempts to kill him out of revenge for her close companion, Parissus. Kimmuriel enacts a kinetic barrier around Entreri, preventing any damage to him and prompting Entreri to throw Calihye out the window. The clever drow takes this opportunity to make Calihye a servant of Bregan D'aerthe and so that he may use her in the future when dealing with Artemis Entreri, who despite being saved by Kimmuriel all these times, despises the drow psion.

I will have to pick this book up too. Thanks Passivearmada for letting me know he was in it. :)

(that scene was kindof a rip off of Conan the Destroyer)
