| DHunterOrion03-04-07, 09:26 AM | Faiths and Avatars is the book that has a listing of knightly orders isn't it? Also, I'm looking to find the requirements of being a knight in the forgotten realms. I'm looking to start an adventuring group, called the Azure Knights (if that isn't taken by a canon organization). What I need to know is if it is an absolute rule that such a group would have to have been sanctioned by the Crown of a particular realm, or if they can group together and call themselves knights and follow their rules and the laws of the realms. |

Not a group mentioned anywhere that I know of by the name Azure Knights, so I think you're good in that respect. As to absolute rules about sanctioning of a crown or church being required, I think you'd need it more for heraldric reasons rather than legal ones per se... depends on where you are though. In the middle of Tethyr or Cormyr, I'd see the crowns taking a dim view, but in a place like Waterdeep I could see people looking at it as very pretentious without a noble's backing, but not illegal unless you broke heraldric law. |

I'm not sure entirely what you mean by heraldric law, could you elaborate a bit further? If it means the symbol? of the group, I took the shield used by the real-life Knights of Jerusalem, I had it customized with my groups colors and one piece removed. So it is entirely my own. That is to be the emblem for documents on the server's forums. As for breaking any law of the Realm, that is going to be frowned upon. The group is dedicated towards good. |

Anything with 2 or more devices is covered by Heraldric law and should be registered with the Heralds of Cormyr, presuming you have dispensation from the crown, which I seem to recall as being necessary in Cormyr, in the form of being a chartered adventuring band. More information should be available in the 2e Code of the Harpers and the 3.5e Power of Faerun. The Cormyr 2e sourcebook has some locale specific details as well if you're interested in that. Or you could alternately try using wiki for it if you don't feel like digging that much into old sourcebooks. |
