| Aegis_Chiron05-21-07, 03:07 AM | Can someone explain to me when Lhaeo went to become the crowned King Haedrak III of Tethyr? My understanding was that he had absolutely no interest in claiming his birthright and that he was content to let Zaranda Star rule the country. Obviously the FRCS contradicts me, but is it known what made him change his mind about this? I hate it what they change my concept of key people.... |

| Old Sage05-21-07, 03:48 AM | See the War in Tethyr novel also. As well, Ed's and Steven's replies at Candlekeep. |
| Fillow05-21-07, 04:59 AM | Thank you Aegis Chiron. Thanks to your question, I at least learnt why Lhaeo was named like that by searching an answer for you ! |
| boards05-21-07, 10:47 PM | For the life of me I cant remember seeing Lhaeo in the War in Tethyr novel. At the end they ask Zaranda to be Queen but no mention of Lhaeo being her husband. |
| Lord_Madrigan05-22-07, 01:40 AM | Lhaeo maried Zaranda to give her a stronger clam to the throne. He was Bullied by Blackstaff and convinced by Sylune to do so. If i remember correctly Lhaeo and Storm where rather close. |

| Zandilar05-22-07, 05:42 AM | Heya, For the life of me I cant remember seeing Lhaeo in the War in Tethyr novel. At the end they ask Zaranda to be Queen but no mention of Lhaeo being her husband. I don't remember exactly. Part of me says emphatically "He wasn't," but I can't be sure without checking the novel. In any event, War in Tethyr gives pretty vital information regarding Zaranda Star. As has been mentioned, Lhaeo (aka Haedrak) married Zaranda in order to bolster her claim (or give proper legitimacy to her claim) to the throne of Tethyr. Also, aparently the pair are smitten with each other. Something I had a hard time swallowing, to be perfectly honest, knowing exactly how rarely arranged marriages/marriages of conveniance work out. Usually they end in misery and resentment. It would have been far better if Haedrak had been introduced earlier in the piece (like in War in Tethyr) and a natural romance had flourished, IMHO. |
| Zireael05-22-07, 08:50 AM | As far as I remember, Lhaeo met Storm while he served Elminster... and he fell in love :D but when he married Zaranda he fell in love witrh her and forgot about Storm. :D :D |
| Zandilar05-22-07, 09:23 AM | Heya, As far as I remember, Lhaeo met Storm while he served Elminster... and he fell in love :D but when he married Zaranda he fell in love witrh her and forgot about Storm. :D :D Everyone loves Storm. :) Storm is my most favorite Chosen, the one I admire most and would aspire to be like were I an inhabitant of Abeir-Toril. Winning her heart would be a goal worthy to strive for. :embarrass  :embarrass I know, just a little crush! Even so, I don't know quite what to make of her and her choice in men. She has this guy who lives with her, Maxer, the one from Stormlight. He, aparently, is an old lover of hers who got turned into Maxer julienne by a marilith, then brought back to life and possessed by Bane... And after all that tried to kill her. She forgave him, of course (that's just the kind of woman she is), and purged him of Bane's taint, and they lived happily ever after. He was so traumatised by what happened that the poor boy spends all his time invisible on Storm's farm, and has had nary a mention in 3.xe FR - not even where you'd expect to find such a person mentioned. I believe Storm is a little like her sister Alustriel, and isn't averse to making love to people (aparently, also like Alustriel, of either gender) - to offer comfort to them when they are in need, to provide a moment of love in a dark and sometimes depressing world, also perhaps it is a way of anchoring her own sanity in a world that moves ever onwards, while she remains in place, watching those she loves grow old, die, and crumble into the mists of history behind her. |

Could also be (and this is my interpretation) that she doesn't have any "hang ups" centered around sex and doesn't have any qualms about loving more than one person. And it doesn't seem like the whole "there is only one person for me forever and if I even like someone else too much I'm a terrible awful person" line of thought isn't very strong in FR as a whole. ;) Not that I'm trying to say that you (zandilar) think FR is that way, I'm just stating that :) |
| Faraer05-22-07, 01:04 PM | Maxan Maxer is Storm's great love (of the last few hundred years), and lived with her between the mid-1240s and 1260 DR. She's thought to have dallied betimes with Lhaeo a century or so later, not as a permanent thing for either of them. I don't think Maxan's fate post-Stormlight has been properly addressed. |

I think that goes without saying. ;) I was trying to be a little romantic about it, though, maybe I over complicated things. :) And it doesn't seem like the whole "there is only one person for me forever and if I even like someone else too much I'm a terrible awful person" line of thought isn't very strong in FR as a whole. ;) Not that I'm trying to say that you (zandilar) think FR is that way, I'm just stating that :) That is exactly right. I see far too many people trying to apply judeo-christian/western values on Faerun - which they're welcome to do, of course, but isn't an accurate depiction of what life is like in the Realms. Maxan Maxer is Storm's great love (of the last few hundred years), and lived with her between the mid-1240s and 1260 DR. She's thought to have dallied betimes with Lhaeo a century or so later, not as a permanent thing for either of them. I don't think Maxan's fate post-Stormlight has been properly addressed. No, but I do recall Ed posting about it on Candlekeep... Which is where I get him hanging around on Storm's farm invisibly... Ah here it is... March 6 2004, this is going back a fair way... A SPOILER for STORMLIGHT follows: Maxer returned to Storm, alive and whole, at the end of the novel, and from then until now, has remained her consort. However, Maxer gained a magical means of invisibility when escaping from Araunrhee (during a pitched battle between Araunrhee and a balor, Olorkroth). He grew so comfortable using invisibility as he made his way back to the Realms and his lady that he uses it still, preferring to hide from most folk of Shadowdale and observe. In this way he can spy for Storm, guard her farm when she's away, fetch and carry for her -- and have her to himself when she has privacy and leisure (which is seldom). As a result, very few people in Shadowdale know of his return, though (thanks to the doings of Sylune, Maxer, and some Harpers) word has spread that her farm is "haunted." Maxer is a sensitive, understanding, and kind man who foresees and anticipates very well. In the 2nd Edition shorthand Jeff Grubb and I devised for FRA, he's a CG hm Bard of unknown levels (7+); if twisting that into 3rd Edition terms, he should have fighter- and thief-related prestige classes involving agility, juggling, and/or entertaining. He should not be confused with either the beholder Manxam, or the Cormyrean wizard Maxer. Anyway, I'm tired of actually quoting from Kuje's files (or my own files on my HDD), so in future I'll post links to the appropriate post, or where applicable, Kuje's files themselves (unless someone tells me why it's a bad idea to do that here). This is the page (http://www.candlekeep.com/library/articles/sse/sse_020304-04.htm), you can search on "Maxer" to find it... Most of the people who have ever run games for me in FR ignore Maxer completely (since he's not mentioned anywhere other than Stormlight). My take is he decided that he had enough of sitting around doing nothing, and has taken off to explore the world some more and live. Because in remaining in one spot, dedicated to one single person (magnificent as she may be), he would have allowed the forces that took his life in the first place to win. |
| Faraer05-22-07, 08:29 PM | Yes, I read that when she posted it. It's a brief aside, rather than addressing the situation in any depth. |
| Zandilar05-22-07, 08:35 PM | Heya, Yes, I read that when she posted it. It's a brief aside, rather than addressing the situation in any depth. How much more depth do you want? It says where he is and what he does... In short, he's a bit of a wet blanket IMHO - hence my version of him running off to live his life. (Which isn't to say he isn't involved in Storm's life at all, just that he isn't always to be found in Shadowdale.) The fact that he hasn't been mentioned in any official source (other than Stormlight) makes it impossible for anyone without the novel to know about him... Which means he's going to be forgotten in the long run. |
| Faraer05-22-07, 08:45 PM | Since a wet blanket wouldn't gain Storm's love, or willingly fight demons, my assumption is that if we knew more about his 'current' life we'd find important details and motivation we're not aware of. He's mentioned outside of Stormlight, by the way, such as in Forgotten Realms Adventures, FOR4 The Code of the Harpers, and The Seven Sisters. There's a long queue of long-established Realms characters waiting for their time in the sun, as well you know. |
| Zandilar05-22-07, 08:57 PM | Heya, Since a wet blanket wouldn't gain Storm's love, or willingly fight demons, my assumption is that if we knew more about his 'current' life we'd find important details of life and motivation we're not aware of. Oh yes, I agree, he must have been something special to win Storm's heart. But it would seem that Maxer was "damaged" by the rough handling he recieved by Bane - that could be enough to break even the most hardy and adventurous soul... But it still doesn't seem to fit right for me to have him wallowing in self-pity, which is why I reckon he's not just hanging around Shadowdale. After a while, once he had recovered from the trauma (might have taken a couple of years), he got bored (or maybe Storm gently pushed him for his own good)... and moved on. Perhaps he's a Harper now, maybe he works for Storm. His invisibility power would be highly useful for a spy, after all. Life is for living, not for letting the world pass you by. The only official take we have is what Ed mentioned about him at Candlekeep. He's mentioned outside of Stormlight, by the way, such as in Forgotten Realms Adventures, FOR4 The Code of the Harpers, and The Seven Sisters. Really? :) Of those books (aside from the novel), I only have the last in my possession (I think I used to have FRA too, but I am not sure if I still do, and I haven't got around to getting the PDF versions of the other two yet)... I don't recall a mention, but I'm not with my books and I don't claim to have a perfect memory. :) I'll check it when I get home (more information is always helpful!). He hasn't had a single mention in 3e, though, has he? |

Ed DID base HIS Seven Sisters on the 70's porn movie of the same name! :D Don't know who this Maxer is, but it sounds to me like he should be hanging around with Wulfgar. They can get all 'emo' with each other. ;) Then Elminster can show up and smack them both in the head for being such pu__ies. "Aye, so ye had a little demon trouble, did ye? You lads don't even know what trouble is..." |
