| Belissaire10-23-07, 10:37 AM | Reading the GHotR, its evident that ZK is on the rise with all the conquerin' and the fightin' and pointy swords and the Bane worshippin'. Correct me if I'm wrong, but ZK is allied with Mulmaster and by 1385, it controls Hillsfar, Phlan and Yulash. But the History of Realm is rather silent of what becomes of Melvaunt in this. I'm running the Mysteries of the Moonsea and the Sons of Grumuush adventures, and my PCs are thinking of having allies in the city that are against ZK. However, considering the events unfolding, is Melvaunt becoming a satellite in the region? Are the families considering allying themselves with either Sembia (pre-Civil War) or the Elves or maybe Cormyr??? (By the way things are going, there's no longer any great powers in the region except from ZK and the Elves...) So Moonsea experts, what are your opinions on the matter? Bel. |

| DMD11-01-07, 01:27 PM | I just started running Sons of Gruumsh myself. Of course the year in my game is early 1362 so I am very far away from current timeline. I would guess that if the ruling families were smart (and they seem to be), they would either side with the elves (although I doubt the elves would be too eager to side with a city full of wretched evil humans) or Zhentil Keep since there is no one else to support them. Of course they could always try to strengthen (or create) ties with a city like Tantras or Raven's Bluff, essentially other independent city states. Of course they would not be so independent if they had to do this. Looks like if they don't they will fall to Zhentil Keep sooner than later. |
| makaku11-02-07, 09:18 AM | I'm just starting Moonsea as well. Is there a good site for more information on Melvaunt itself? I'm starting there, I like the dark, gritty settings :D |
| Belissaire11-02-07, 08:23 PM | Well, there's always mysteries of the moonsea... There are people more knowledgeable about the FR bibliography. Personally, I picture Melvaunt as city run by Vito Corleone in the midst of the God Father I with the war between the families... Bel. |
| Stigger11-02-07, 09:29 PM | Only thing besides MotM with anything on Melvaunt that I can think of was the 2e Moonsea accessory, but I don't recall it going into that much depth. |
| makaku11-03-07, 10:05 AM | Leave it up to me to pick a city with hardly any information on it :D I guess I'll have to borrow from some place then. Any ideas on something that may be similar? |
| MarkusTay6311-03-07, 11:12 AM | Sometimes starting in a region with very little canon history is a good thing. It means you can stick whatever YOU want there without too much trouble. |
| Stigger11-04-07, 10:42 AM | Kinda why I like Neverwinter for my campaigns, isn't much on it and what there is fits my needs nicely. Mind you I utterly ignore the videogames as far as its concerned... |

| Belissaire11-05-07, 09:10 AM | Agreed, why not develop the city on your own? There's nonproblem with that... but from GHotR, you get the sense that a lot of geopolitical action with Zhentil Keep really expanding its sphere of influence. And that's not even taking into account the Elves coming back in the region and Sembia and the Dales getting involved. So, the question is not what happens in the city, but what happens in the region that will affect the city's overall position. And with the Black Network claiming monopoly on the weapons shipping, it's sure to have an impact on the premier weapon and armor producer this side of Aunoroch... Bel. |

It's always an option to ignore those events--I do.:) Though that may not work for you, for whatever reason (ie. you've already incorporated those events into your story). |
| DMD11-06-07, 02:12 PM | There is a lot of plot in that geopolitical action that you can take advantage of. I see it as something that will enhance adventures not detract from them. |
