I am taking over for an elf centric campaign based in Chondalwood. The premise is a band of militant anti-human elves have cleared and inhabited one of the ruined elven cities (a ground fortress as the tree city was destroyed).

At this point in the campaign they have a small army and have already unseated the puppet government in Iljak.

This starts my conundrum, if I had been running the campaign there would have been no way they would have accomplished this. Though based on the size of the elven army (less than 5000) they couldn't even leave a proper garrison. They installed their own puppet and had him sign a surrender.

I haven't played in the FR since the mid 80's and am unfamiliar with Chandath and the Chondalwood area. So I am in essence asking for two things.

1. Beside the borrowed copy of the FRCS I have, where can I look to understand how these actions would impact the region, the expected response of those powers in the region, and what difficulties the elves would have in the Chondalwood itself?

2. What is your opinion on those questions.

Thank you

1. You'll likely find the Vilhon Reach sourcebook and Paul S. Kemp's "Erevis Cale" useful as they both provide Realmslore on Chondath and the Chondalwood.

Ed also included some mention of the Chondalwood in his "An Overview of Chondath" (http://www.candlekeep.com/library/rumors/rumor5.htm) over at Candlekeep.

Each item I read tells me that no one understood the dynamics of the area when they started this campaign. Of course I can ignore as much as I want, but I would prefer to include the dynamics and complications that all this would entail.

I can't post details of what I am thinking because my players read this board.
