08-28-07, 04:28 PM I will start running a campaign based on the sothillisian empire (power of faerun p.41 for those interested...) and when I was helping one of my players in his characters creation process, he decided to play a half-ogre (races of destiny).

We though this would be interesting story-wise, and we started writing his background when we got in trouble while deciding how old was he, and how old he could get by natural means.

The book says he would age like a half-orc, and (with luck) live just a little longer, but I am not certain about this since races of the wild states centaurs as a much more long living race than races of faerun does, so I ask, is there statistics of how old can a ogre get in forgotten realms?

So that I can properly formulate an age for this interesting character of him.

08-28-07, 05:25 PM I don't think there is official information about the lifespan of hal-ogres. Either use the stuff you have, or make something up. :)

08-28-07, 05:39 PM Well, I too believe there is no lifespan information regarding half ogres in the realms (I don't even know if half ogres are canon).

But what I asked for (and sorry if I did not made myself clear in this aspect) was the lifespan of an "full blooded" ogre, so I could work on something more accurate on this matter.

if its base as in human then use the human age if its ir go with the orc age

09-04-07, 05:14 PM You could go back to Dragon #73, where Roger Moore posited that they'd live slightly longer than humans, up to a maximum of about 140 years.

'Course, things were a little different back then.

09-07-07, 05:01 PM Bear in mind, that Ogres were once a smarter more advanced race in FR (although not nearly as much as the DL version).

They had a mighty, advanced empire in Thar at one point, and subjugated all of the local Orcs under their rule.

The Goblins, too, were once far more advanced and had an empire of their own in the region of Cormyr, in the days of Netheril.

Their is also evidence of NUMEROUS Gnoll empires in the pre-Imaskar days, and perhaps even a few Hobgoblin and Kobold kingdoms.

More 'proof' that the humans and demi-humans are the 'true' monsters of Toril... ;)

I truly wished Ed had released more material on "monsters" culture, history and general information.

09-07-07, 10:53 PM Unfortunetly, the bits and pieces are spread throughout the 2e products. One of the more recent products (I think) that gives any sort of detail to ancient humanoid kingdoms is Into the Dragon's Lair, which is still 2e. Many of the old Elminster's Ecologies have some detail about them as well (like the Ogres of Thar).

A newer (but less detailed) account can be found of one in the FRCS - looking under the Vast's history.

After the coming of the Elves and the fall of the Giant and Dragon kingdoms, but before the rise of man, humanoids ruled much of Faerūn. That is the most un-developed piece of FR's history, and to me, it's one of the most interesting.

I just hope the GHotR gives them a wee bit of coverage.
