| customdrapery12-07-07, 10:53 AM | Does anyone know who built Candlekeep? I looked through GHotR and it says that in circa -200 DR Candlekeep was founded, it doesn't say who built it. I'm curious because the wards that it has for protection scream mythal to me and I've been wondering who would have set them up. Any information would be most helpful. |
| Faraer12-07-07, 06:24 PM | Candlekeep was originally Alaundo's citadel, and his followers maintained it after his death. Its wards were probably created, changed and augmented piecemeal over the centuries. (I hope it's not a mythal -- too many of 'em already.) |
| Old Sage12-07-07, 06:47 PM | Main sources for Candlekeep are Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast, "Introduction to Candlekeep" (http://www.candlekeep.com/library/articles/ck_scroll.htm) by Ed Greenwood, the 1993 Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, and "Candlekeep: Bringing the Fabled Castle to Life" [from DRAGON #255]. The latter article is based on the treatment in the Baldur's Gate CRPG, which is isn't canonical [though, note that BG novels are], but the information is decent and unlikely to be contradicted in the near future. |
