| Azar_of_Faerun03-18-07, 01:14 AM | Are there any particular exotic or well known pets the people of Cormyr like? |
| Stigger03-18-07, 02:32 AM | Tressym, cats in general as a holdover from the one-time popularity of Sharess in the nation. |
| Old Sage03-18-07, 02:39 AM | Going from memory, right at this moment... Eveningstar: tressym Wheloon: ferrets and bluebirds Tilverton: frogs |
| Brenigin03-18-07, 06:07 AM | That would be Shadow Frogs these days, don't you think Sage? ;) |
| Panurg03-18-07, 10:49 AM | Beguiler (from Shining South?) Pseudo-Dragon Not so much pets, but I would love to be friend of one of those two. How could you call it? Partnership? Friendship? ;) It's something special. :D |
| Kaewin04-11-07, 07:44 PM | Aren't hunting cats always in style? |
| Panurg04-17-07, 03:25 PM | Of course with the right handling. (Or like you would rather hear around here: "The right Handle Animal check.";) ) Sometimes those little sweetys grow up and get very difficult to handle. But black panthers are a nogo! :nonono: Since ... youn know when. |
| Zandilar04-17-07, 11:08 PM | Heya, Tressym, cats in general as a holdover from the one-time popularity of Sharess in the nation. I didn't think Sharess was the reason for fondness of cats in Cormyr... But darned if I can't remember where I read about the relationship between Cormyr and cats to prove it! |
| Stigger04-18-07, 01:43 AM | Said it was in the 2e Cormyr sourcefolderthingy if I recall correctly... think P&P mentioned it in passing as well. Possibly Volo's too... at any rate, I'm pretty sure I've read it in more than one place. Oops, wasn't Cormyr, was page 52 of P&P, just under her holy symbol on the page that says she's the reason behind the veneration of cats in Cormyr and Mulhorand. |
| Zandilar04-18-07, 04:37 AM | Heya, Said it was in the 2e Cormyr sourcefolderthingy if I recall correctly... think P&P mentioned it in passing as well. Oops, wasn't Cormyr, was page 52 of P&P, just under her holy symbol on the page that says she's the reason behind the veneration of cats in Cormyr and Mulhorand. Ah, that's Bast, after she subsumed Felidae but before she merged with Zandilar. It seems such a long time ago that it's quite possible that the people of Cormyr don't even remember why cats are so revered (either that or the Bast/Zandilar merger is a lot more recent than I was thinking*!)... In any event, her faith isn't particularly active in Cormyr. * It was only after Bast merged with Zandilar that she fell under the influence of Shar... And it probably would have taken some time for her to become known as Sharess after that. |
| Stigger04-18-07, 09:57 AM | Er... Bast and Sharess are essentially the same thing... two different names, same loveable deity. Getting a tad hypertechnical there Zandi... picking up some bad habits from Dan there. ;) |
| Zandilar04-18-07, 07:52 PM | Heya, Er... Bast and Sharess are essentially the same thing... two different names, same loveable deity. Getting a tad hypertechnical there Zandi... picking up some bad habits from Dan there. ;) *sigh* You're probably right about that. It would be interesting to put a date on when she was in Cormyr - The Obarskyrs were amongst the first humans in the Forest Country, and they didn't settle there until 6 DR, so it would have been some time after that, and the Kingdom wasn't founded until 26 DR. |
| Faraer04-19-07, 08:39 PM | Tressym are too intelligent and self-willed to be common pets -- more like occasional friends, companions or familiars. |
| Old Sage04-19-07, 09:11 PM | The 'Tressym' entry in Haunted Halls of Eveningstar would seem to suggest that tressym are, on occasion, kept as "loose" pets -- villagers do in fact tend toward feeding them, and sometimes seek to prevent much of the damage they cause to the local surroundings. |
