Hi all. I am planning a game for my group and need the quick, cliff-note info for the following:

1) What was the initial event that led to the fall of the mythal around Myth Drannor? I thought I had read about a dragon escaping or having something to do with it but just can't find it again.

2) What led to the fall of Netheril? Was it when Karsus died, the magic failed and caused his giant city to fail, creating a domino effect? If not, then what was the initial event that led to the fall of Netheril?

Thanks in advance for any help.

1) What was the initial event that led to the fall of the mythal around Myth Drannor? I thought I had read about a dragon escaping or having something to do with it but just can't find it again.

-The mythal around Myth Drannor was never destroyed. The circumstances that led to the destcution of the city did indeed involve a Dragon, Garnet. A trio of Nycaloths were imprisoned in an invisible extradimensional space over Castle Cormanthor. When Garnet, a Red Dragon who never held green or malice in her heart, flew over Castle Cormanthor, these Nycaloths were able to escape. They shortly gathered an army of evil monsters, including Orcs, Trolls, Demons, Devils, Beholders, and so on, and attacked Cormanthyr, and it's capital, Myth Drannor. The 'Army of Darkness', as it became known as won the Weeping War, though it's leaders were destroyed, and it disolved shortly thereafter.

-The presence of Infernal and Abyssal extraplanar creatures, as well as numerous attempts to control the Mythal over the years, has resulted in it's weakening, and periodic malfunctioning. The Mythal never fell, however. In fact, it was recently fully repaired, due to the efforts of Avaevin Telshurr, a prospective Selu'Taar who transformed himself using a lost Elven High Magic ritual to be able to cast Rituals of Compliment and Rituals of Myriad alone.

2) What led to the fall of Netheril? Was it when Karsus died, the magic failed and caused his giant city to fail, creating a domino effect? If not, then what was the initial event that led to the fall of Netheril?

-Netheril was engaged in a costly war with the Phaerimm. It was, literally, fighting for it's survival. When Ioulaum, a Netherese arcanist and folk hero disappeared, it put the people of the empire into a frenzy. To calm them, Karsus cast Karsus' Avatar, which he believed would allow him to access Mystryl's powers, destroy the Phaerimm, and make things right. When he cast the spell, he realized that he was not experienced enough to handle the interface of magic that was the Weave. To prevent things from completely unraveling, Mystryl sacrificed herself, to 'reboot' the Weave. In the period of time between when Mystryl sacrificed herself, and when Mystra was born, magic ceased to exist. This caused the mythallars keeping the floating cities of Netheril afloft to fail, dropping countless flying enclaves to the ground. Only three were saved from destruction, and Mystra came into being before they crash.

-Concerning Low Netheril, the communities that did not float in the sky, the Phaerimm's life-draining magics caused the majority of these farmers to, literally, leave for greener pastures.

Thanks. I should be able to build an adventure around those. By the way, I PMed you to get some thoughts on the adventure I am planning since some of my players frequent here.
