Okay, I am rereading old and new books, bored - and perhaps taking ideas for current and later campaigns. And then, I am thinking. Al-Qadim and the Hordeland. Never knew much about them (especially Al-Qadim), and one of the glaring blank is - what are the racial options possible? What can a player choose for his or her character(s) in both campaign? Be it the hybrids, local subraces and new races, from the base books and later add-ons.

Someone could tell me about it more, and list them and sources if possible? I am curious, and it may serves one of those days.

Zakhara has pretty much the same races as basic PHB. Additionally, various humanoids (anything from goblins to ogres) are civilized races and could potentially be PCs.

-The Hordelands are very simple. For the most part, only Humans inhabit the area. There are some Lythari in the Eastern Wastes, in the western-most reaches of the Hordelands. One would think that every so often, a stray Spirit-Folk, and what not makes its way out there.

-As for Zakhara, again, it is mostly Human. Other races do exist, such as Elves, or Dwarves, but for whatever reason, they do not have much allegiance to their races, and act more or less as Zakharan Humans do.

Are there some local 'new' races, at least in Zakkara? I heard about '"yakmen", albeit not sure it is a monster of something.

-Well, yes, there are plenty of races that are unique to Zakhara- See al-Qadim: Monsterous Compendium. Let me give it a brief looking through, to determine which monsters included in there are more like PC races:

Ashira
Asuras
Desert Centaur
Gen
Genies
Desert Giants
Jungle Giants
Reef Giants
Markeen
Maskhi
Pahari
Rom
Sakina
Silats

-Hope that helps a little bit.

In Zakhara you can only play the basic races, but they are no different from humans (culturally) in that setting, so they really served no purpose what-so-ever. In Horde, once again you can only be a human. Both settings had a unique species of centaur, but you couldn't play as one (besides, you'd need a hireling to follow you around with a pooper-scooper).

Kara-Tur has Kokobukuru, which are simply Oriental Dwarves, Hengeyokai (a form of animal/shapeshifter), and Spirit Folk (which are also available in UE) as playable races. If you use the 3e OA, you also get Vanara, a species of intelligent monkey-folk, but they were never mentioned in 1e or 2e OA.

Even Maztica gave you human-only PCs, so it seems the only Toril setting that had other races available as PCs was Kara-Tur. Of course, that means very little, since many supplements allow you to play as humanoids, serpentfolk, Luxo, Hagspawn, etc..., if you care to add them.
