From the Lords of Darkness sourcebook, page 86, second paragraph from the bottom, right side -

"Expeditions from the City of Shade are exploring some previously unknown ruins in the vicinity of Anauroch."

Does anyone know if this site has been revealed?

-That could be referring to any of the numerous Netherese ruins that lie in the Anauroch- anything from a minor outpost to an entire enclave.

IIRC, don't they have the ruins they are exploring statted out in that same book?

Also, in Faerun there tend to be "unknown ruins" all over the place.:)

Pity they probably won't forget to publish the horrendous crap that is shaping up to be 4e...

Sorry, cheap shot, couldn't resist...

Or not......

Mostly not for me... only seen one or two things for the whole of 4e that have made me think it might be worth it to switch over... and I can't even recall what those were offhand really... so I'm thinking 3/3.5e for me for the foreseeable future.

It is also said, in Underdark, that shades explore ruins (of a city, if my memories are good enough) under Araumycos.

yeah, they are incredibly industrious and working their asses off to get back to their "glory days" and all that. they have alot to lose so it's imperative they pull out all the stops. many are conspiring against them actively, but they aren't the garden variety villains like Thay (of old) or Zhentil Keep. that is, they skirmish w/ the Zhents for control of the Black Road (they did claim all of Anauroch i thought), have "extermination squads" vs. phaerrim (can't be all the bad, a service to the planet) and so on. a more contemporary form of antagonists. i like. a nice addition from 2nd ed. good writing. creative, fresh.
but, Shar and everything. you know.
i read they raised another city. what's up w/ that? do they have extraterritoriality? are they recognized as a nation? borders, etc? some illumination here please.

the LoD citing is just an inspecific plot hook to whet the PC's whistles. consider it a generic adventure device, nothign more.

-Yes, the city of Sakkors. As for the rest...Well, it's not settled yet. Shade has only been around for 3 years now. Once the 4e FRCS comes out, with a 10-100 year time gap, we'll see for sure.

Nation of Netheril... 100+ enclaves. 100+ Archwizards(with support)... and possibly Cormanthyr/Evermeet as one of the other major nations. Hmmmm....... eh LK? Does that make you anticipate 4E more?
The forces of Netheril led by the Archwizard Szych matched against the elven mongrels led by their new Coronal Lord Karmus :P

-Not really. I'd actually dread the coming changes a little more, if that were all true.

-I believe that is called 'Armageddon'. :)
(What a battle it would be, though)

It's called protecting his place in history... someone else could rise to challenge his greatness and all that. Can't allow that to happen, now can we? ;) :D

-Well, with the new 4e magic system, it's looking more and more like casting a 12th level spell isn't anything special anymore...:raincloud

Actually with 4th edition doing anything isn't going to be special anymore because they're shaping it around anything a player can do is special. Fighters will be shooting fireballs out of their eyes at level 1 soon enough.

-Don't know nothing about that. I'm not planning to convert, so I'm not really following the 'evolution' of the rule set. But, it that's true...Well, that's not cool.

Nah, 4E fighters will be shooting fireballs out their :censored:

Lets also not forget the City of Opus(Selunarra) that was saved by the Grace of the Moon Maiden, in LEoF.;)
Them returning to Faerun would put a damper on what the Shades got going on. Maybe the reborn Netheril is Opus? Maybe the spellplague kicks the Shades rear end?;)

I don't know, the prologue in The Orc King implies that the new Empire of Netheril is a bad thing for the world.

There's another surviving enclave*, but they're not quite 'human' anymore....

Someday I will put up the story of the lost Nautilus Enclave...

When I figure out where it would be appropriate.

And BTW, Karsus, we find out it wasn't entirely YOUR fault... you were set-up. ;)

I've always thought that Karsus periodic bouts of insanity should be linked to Shar somewhat.

~Sage at Candlekeep in the year 4973 NME(New Magical Age): "According to the new classification of magic we have devised in order to more properly categorize spells we use today.. which we have placed in a list of levels 1-30. The spell created by Karsus to strip Mystryl of her divinity could not have been less than oh say... 497 at maximum optimization. If it were cast with an ordinary wizard's finesse lacking absolute mastery of all disciplines in magic, it would more likely be a spell in the level 900s or so"

Maybe I am in late but:

IIRC : The city is Ascore, a dwarven port city of old Netheril, detailed (notsomuch) in some old 2nd Edition Supplement (maybe: the savage frontier)... They also are scouting every Netherese ruin they know of for magical treasures.

Hope this could help.
