Is she really dead?

Yes. Though, I feel it's important to note that Ed never wanted to kill her off.

I don't understant the answer there. What did that have to do with the original question?

Is she dead or what?

Really ? what is the source of this piece of information ?
I stopped her history with Crown of fire. Does it happen in the third tome of her trilogy ?

See Ed's Hand of Fire novel.

Ed's thoughts regarding Shandril's demise are included in his replies over at Candlekeep.

SPOILER- POSSIBLY

I presume we are talking dead as in no longer corporeal?

From a character point of view, there's really no reason she couldn't have a similar role to Sylune in several books?

Spoil me here, how did she die, and what did Ed say on the issue?

Can't exactly remember how it happened, but I seem to remember that she was somehow transferred into spellfire and silver fire (that's what the Chosen of Mystra throw about) ... so somehow became part of the Weave.

One wonders why no author or designer has taken the spellfire thing up again? Carefully plotted, it makes a good story, in novel, adventure or even at the table.

A human transformed to spellfire.
(That raw magic underlying the Weave was more dangerous than I thought :))

At long last! They throw their fireballs about like there is no tomorrow, without paying much if anything personally, yet, if a poor demon or devil happens by and wants to utter a word in the Dark Speech, it and all its present kin suffer (woefully weak Charisma damage) too. Why would anyone, even the gods use Dark Speech? Yet, if a simple mage cast one spell, he's totally free to use it too! Time for paying them back!
