I'm a newbie DM. I'm not up to date on realmslore.

My questions are,

Is Maztica a rip-off version of Mesoamerica?

Is Amn conquering Maztica like the Spanish Conquistadores of old?

Is there a Hernan Cortez in the story, or someone similar?

Is Maztica currently brought to its knees by spell and plague? (wording joke)

If what I fear is true, and Maztica IS the Yukatan Peninsula, then I'm erasing Maztica clean off my map and forbid my players from trying to use any Maztica-related setting.

Also, I hated Amn ever since I first knew of it. If what I fear is true, I'll be hating it more...

Is Maztica a rip-off version of Mesoamerica?

-Yes.

Is Amn conquering Maztica like the Spanish Conquistadores of old?

-Yes, very much so.

Is there a Hernan Cortez in the story, or someone similar?

-Yes, General Cordell.

Is Maztica currently brought to its knees by spell and plague? (wording joke)

-Ah, depends on what you want to consider current. As far as I know, Maztica will not be subject to the Spellplague, since magic in Maztica worked slightly different than magic on Faerūn. However, Maztica suffered it's own sort of catastrophe, which resulted in the death of Zaltec, numerous cities, and the rise of Orcs, Ogres, and similar creatures.
