i am reading the city of splendours supplement for waterdeep
the section on skullport is rather brief
it doesnt say how inhabitants from waterdeep get to skullport.
how do they get there?
i also recall reading on the boards that there is a portal that allows ships to get to skullport
where on the surface is the portal located?

appreciate all the help given.

Pick up a copy of Skullport accessory from paizo.com (http://paizo.com/store/brand/forgottenRealms/roleplayingGames/2ndEdition/v5748btpy7mls&source=search). It provides in-depth coverage of the Port of Shadow.

The portal is 'nearby', but definately ouside of the city proper. I think it is a mile or two 'up the coast', but if the direction was ever mentioned in canon I do not remember it.

Skullport, along with the rest of the Underhalls, are seperate from Waterdeep, and require several seperate products to cover them effectively.

For passages into Undermountain, you can purchase the recent module of the same name.

I also understand that a better map of the Yawning Portal 'might' make an appearance in the new DI part of the site. ;)

The recently published Expedition to Untermountain also feature a few infos on Skullport, not much though.

yeah - not much - includingthe OP's problem - no mention of how to get to and from skullport. Actually there are a number of really rather nasty disconnects in the module that make expanding it very difficult -probably even with the other resources. things like maps that are either incoorect (Yawning POrtal) or don't show both large and small scale for adventure areas (storeroom level); no descriptions for getting between levels to continue the adventure (except maybe a single portal that take syou right there with no link to other described sections - getting to the shaft from the storeroom level then getting anywhere else on the sargauth level from the shaft) and on and on - does WotC do ANY proofing anymore?

Some of that might have been done on purpose, considering that Return to Undermountain is supposed to be an "intro" to that dungeon/region. I did find it a little strange that that product AND Waterdeep, the City of Splendors came out the same year, yet neither covered their inter-connectivity.

Now, with all the recent announcments, I would rather believe that it was left out with some plan in mind, rather then the usual stupidity. It has been hinted at that the Spellplague relates to events in Undermountain, so I'm assuming a module at some point down the pipe that will cover this.

Sadly I think its just more of the usual - either we are buying beta and doing the final field testing for them or they just aren't spending the money on editing that used to be spent. As for the spellplague I think its pretty much a done deal - you can rule 0 it but for canon its going to happen and no module is going to allow for any cahnce to remove it sadly.

Perhaps not stop it, but mitigate it somewhat... ;)

And if they ARE spending the monies elsewhere, I don't think it's on art 'talent'.

Unless I am mistaken, the book Skullport which came out just before the advent of the 3E does have all the lore needed to get from there to Waterdeep and back again. Haven't double-checked EtUM or City of Splendours as yet, but would imagine that some mentioning of connections have been done in there too.

From what I gather, connections are mentioned but nothing was fleshed out. It seems to me that a product about getting INTO Skullport/Undermountain from Waterdeep is almost neccessary at this point.

And Zanan, although you and I am lucky enough to have older (better) sources, a lot of players don't. To come out with two full-blown products practically back-to-back that SHOULD be connected, and yet not cover those connections, was a MAJOR lapse in judgement, IMO.

Hopefully there will be something, most likely connected to the Spellplague, that will allow adventurers to get from point 'A' to point 'B'. There was some talk of detailing the Yawning Portal in the DI, so perhaps they are planning an accompanying adventure.

We hope....

What is really sad is that ther is (or was) a good set of graphics of the Yawning portal in the old maps section - why couldn't they just use their own earlier graphics?

Maybe so. I'd assume space limits meant that quite a bit was cut out (though you could get that bit of info from the designers themselves). I wonder why WotC does not fill such gaps with the nice tool that is called "web-enhancement" more often.

Sorry for misspelling your name, just cauaght that. :(

And as far as an answer to your statement, because now they can SELL us that same information through the DI.
