I was curious as a whole who would probally come out on top if a every set group where to have a "free for all" so to speak. I know there are so many differnt ways to classify "group". So, Example: Drow/Shades/Red Robed Wizards/Orcs/Elfs/Assassians ext.

My best jugdment would be the Shades. Reason being: From what I read they all seem decently clever. Very power hungry, Eternal life from age, disease, wounds. Self body magic that does that of a wizard.

I really hope no one says Drow. They are the most retarted race in the FR series. They are cocky for what reason I can not understand. They live underground with the pride of taking over house to house....That's like saying: I live in the ghetto in NY city and pride myself on taking a new alley. And not to mention they whorpship a Deity that enjoys destruction and chaos even if it would be the Drow themselves.

Besides, I hate elves all together ever since I read LOTR and DL novles. They are too feminant. How are you going to be a bad ass without even being able to grow a beard? The Dwarves pride themselves on the beards. When ever I make a preist in a video game mmorpg, I make sure that it is a elf. A womans class. A healer. A nurse..

Drow/Shades/Red Robed Wizards/Orcs/Elfs/Assassians...........?

Uh, well are we talking groups? or race? How can you ask questions like "Orc or Assasin"? No group of assasins could ever equal the numbers of a tribe of orcs. It kind of makes no sense.

In any case, red wizards are basically just drow in human form:) Red wizards have far more at their disposal in terms of economical, industrial and military might. If the red wizards of thay were united under a single ruler, they would be THE most feared part of the realm. What a ******* military powerhouse Thay is.

I agree with your assessment on drow. Drow are far less powerful than some would suggest. R.A Salvatore overdoes them to the tenth power. Only people uneducated in the realms actually believe that a regular commoner drow is really an expert weapon wielder compared to any surface dweller, etc

Shades are powerful sure. But far from omnipotent. ill assume we are talking about shadovar exclusively. They WILL be more powerful soon. Right now, they are not a military powerhouse yet, but after Kemp's twilight war series they will be.

Mortals in the Realm...strongest group....non-outsider? Orcs!! Imagine all the orcs in the Realms banding together to create one devastating armada...Plus they would do it in a setting like the Time of Troubles, where thoes meddling wizards can't cast their spells on them.
Sure they can kill ten orcs with one fireball... But we're talking about billions here.

Hey friend, let's pretend a lone drow with 2 blades and no use of magic came along and killed every orc that crossed him. Let's say his name was Drizzt and he hunted each one down as they cowarded from his twin blades. Proceeded to rape them in a fury of rage. Oh wait? That did happen. Thank you hunters blade trilogy! It wouldn't matter if the time of troubles was around or not. KEK!

Whoa....are you some womens right movent person? I don't see myself as sexist but when I say women as a nurse I was reffering to the stero type of the majority of that postion. Women are natraully weaker and you cry all you want about it but the truth is the truth. The same fact that 52% of the earth's population is female. I am sorry if I offended you but it wasn't directed to females in general. I would make some Lifetime TV jokes but I have a strict policy about not bashing people and only the situation or subject. But I do understand where your frustration comes from and will see that I chose my words more carefully. And I do not hold society back for the record...if women wanted to stand up for themselves instead of *****ing and starting a revolution, I would only encourage it. Just as I do Atheism.

Nah, his ass got kicked by Obould I. And he was never really able to pay the orc back, cept for his children. And I wouldn't count using the panther and his magical blades and his dark clouds and his bracers no use of magic.
First fight - Drizzt runs away coz he couldn't beat him.
Second fight - tie
Remember that time when Drizzt was actually sorrounded by orc spears and he couldn't escape (In HUnters Blades Trilogy)? The only reason he survived was because he got saved by two other elves.
Plus the dwarves lost the war. The orcs won and was able to create a Dark Arrow Citadel that lasted for HUNDREDS OF YEARS. Bruenor is now trying a new tactic...Taking advantage of the unrest in Dark Arrow Citadel.

Oh yeah...I'm a female...and studying as a nurse!!

Well right now I think the orcs are the strongest groups of beings if grouped ALL TOGETHER.

Now that Mystra's dead there are lots of possibilities of an orc armada winning a great continental war. Plus don't forget their distinct cousins...

Orc armadas would mean orc plus goblins plus scro plus trolls plus larakens (magic devouring creatures/anti magic-magekillers), that's coz orcs don't rely on magic, but brute strength.

If there's one thing I've learned about Faerun history. It's the fact that if a group relies too much on magic...then magic shall be their own downfall as well. Take the Netherese for example....The Creator Races (lizard version), Zhentil Keep (relied too much on Cyric)...etc.etc.etc.

-One Drizzt Do Urden can never defeat a hundred orcs at the same time.
-Oh yeah...bring in Shurrupak if u like...They'll bring in General Vorr from the Royal Scro Fleet.
Mwahahaha!!
Please don't be offended since all of these are fiction. There is no possibility of an orc armada....Even the orcgate wars cannot be considered as one.
Chloramantis

09-26-07, 10:47 AM
Armada is a naval term, I think? I know what you mean though. I hate bringing in real world examples, but I'm gonna. Orcs and the cousins are like the Chinese Communist Army. There are so damn many of them, of course they are the strongest, if there band together for an all out ground war. But magic and nuclear weapons could take care of that.

Now, lets talk about the Spell Plague/Nuclear holocaust. Come 1385 DR, the Orcs may be a frightening force to reckon with.

09-26-07, 10:58 AM
Yes, I couldn't think of anything else. Maybe the dragons? Crap...this reminds me of Dragonlance series' the Dragonpurge.
After the "Chaos Wars" the gods left Krynn and magic was set to a new beginning. Wizards weren't able to cast spells and most of them relied on artifacts and wild magic. Now the dragons....damn those creatures are huge.

But I still think an orc armada could outnumber a dragon uprising in Faerun.
GothicDan

09-26-07, 12:12 PM
Orcs are CE. They're not going to band together for very long, or in any very organized way.

I don't know what "strength" is, but I sure do like the Twisted Rune and the Elves.

Also, Extinction, I'm also one of the last people to cry sexism, but you sure do reek of it.

All the groups have their strengths and weaknesses. Thay could be a huge power, but is divided internally. The Cult of the Dragon could be an insanley powerful force, if it ever got it's leadership issues out of the way. Etc..

However, the single group responsible for the most destruction and devestation are the Sun Elves.

1. They caused the crown wars.

2. They created the Fey'ri.

3. They caused the Dark Disaster.

4. They destroyed Jhadamath.

5. They instigated the Sundering.

6. They are mostly responsible for the fall of Myth Drannor.

7. They breached the sharn wall, thereby releasing the Phaerum.

Etc... There is probably a lot more, but thats off the top of my head. And the amazing thing is, they are still respected as being one of the wisest and most innatly good of the races. What a con job that was. Aside from Karsus's folly, what other calamities come even close to what the elves have inflicted upon the world? In my opinion, Sun Elves are greatest threat the realms have ever faced! :P
GothicDan

09-26-07, 12:50 PM
Time for schooling. Get out your notebook and bandages.

1. They caused the crown wars.

Ilythiir instigated hostile activities before the Crown Wars were a twinkle in a Vyshaan's eye: they razed THREE neighboring Elven nations to the ground.

And they tried to politically gain control of Miyeritar for centuries before invading it. We have no clue whether their claims to the throne are valid or invalid, though if they truly held no water, one would have thought LEoF would have stated it. (When I was writing up my own Sharlarion/Aryvandaar history, I gave reasoning - a Dark Elf strain had found its way into the royal bloodline, thanks to Ilythiiri deceit and magic, making it, in the end, seem as if that bloodline was linked to Miyeritar's throne.)

2. They created the Fey'ri.

Yes.

3. They caused the Dark Disaster.

These were the Elven High Mages of Aryvandaar, loyal only to Vyshaan - a rather ridiculously small minority. The fact that Gilvaas went mad and started slaying all other Aryvandaari High Magi shows that the majority did not approve of this.

Also, a Sun Elf, Ulair the Silent, headed - along with Khelben - the restoration of the heart of Miyeritar, the City of Hope.

4. They destroyed Jhadamath.

I'm not sure, but I don't think the nation opposing Jhamdaath was made up of Sun Elves.

5. They instigated the Sundering.

Cast by a Wood Elf.

6. They are mostly responsible for the fall of Myth Drannor.

They founded Myth Drannor and led it for thousands of years.Nope. If I had to pin the "most responsible" down to one Clan, it'd be Starym - which near the end had long already been an evil Moon Elf House.

7. They breached the sharn wall, thereby releasing the Phaerum.

Okay, I read the RotAW trilogy. I don't remember the Sun Elves doing this.

Quit speaking off the top of your head!

"Ilythiir instigated hostile activities before the Crown Wars were a twinkle in a Vyshaan's eye: they razed THREE neighboring Elven nations to the ground."

Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that the Vyshaan did start the crown wars, and that they were in fact Sun elves. The damage done by the Ilythiir was small change, compared to the destruction brought by the crown wars.

"These were the Elven High Mages of Aryvandaar, loyal only to Vyshaan - a rather ridiculously small minority. The fact that Gilvaas went mad and started slaying all other Aryvandaari High Magi shows that the majority did not approve of this".

Again, it doesn't change the fact that they were under the orders of the Vyshaan, who again where Sun Elves.

"I'm not sure, but I don't think the nation opposing Jhamdaath was made up of Sun Elves".

I am sure it wasn't entirely, but I believe the ritual involved several sun elf high mages. I think it mentioned a Sun elf explicitly. Lol, now I'll have to find the web article.

"Cast by a Wood Elf".

But who were the biggest proponents for it and the retreat? The xenophobic Sun Elves, many of whom still consider the "lesser" races a threat to their culture.

"They founded Myth Drannor and led it for thousands of years.Nope. If I had to pin the "most responsible" down to one Clan, it'd be Starym - which near the end had long already been an evil Moon Elf House".

Wasn't it a sun elf house that murdered the Colonal's Daughter? If not, then I was mistaken. Still, the Sun Elven houses did quite a bit to stir up decent among the other races, which betrayed the Colonal's dreams just as much as any Starym did.

"Okay, I read the RotAW trilogy. I don't remember the Sun Elves doing this".

Wasn't Galeron (sp?) a Sun elf?

"Quit speaking off the top of your head!"

Now I posted this half humorously, which seems to have excaped you. Still, in regards to the OP, it has merit. Name one group that has caused more destruction? The fact that this was just a small minority of the Sun Elves who were responsible for all this, should verify that Sun Elves are indeed one of the most dangerous groups in Faerun.

That maybe so bonzai...but can they grow a beard? I think not...thus they are not worth mentioning. Did you see Lenodias beard in 300? No wonder he was king. Xerxes had no beard...thus a spear to the face. If he did, it would have been easily defelcted. Btw..on a serious note. What I don't like about most elves that I read from many differnt fantasy novels, is that if they don't have to do somthing, then they won't. In the DragonLance series, the elves did not casue the war so they did not feel that they needed to be involved to save it. In Lord of the rings, they had a chance to flee battle while the rest of the world was in peril, so they did. And from what I hear of you,if they are the most powerful, they don't take oppritunity when its given. Kinda of a waste if you ask me. That's like giving a chosen to some bum. They won't do anything useful with it.

Orcs have caused lots of mayhem and destruction. Maybe they don't have the force necessary to overthrow a city (as one tribe), but if the chiftans of each tribe were to be.... PSIONICALLY POSSESSED..... then maybe we'd have a threat here, much ado to the Spellplague. Or Dweomerdeath, as MarkusTay63 says. But individual tribes, even groups have destroyed countless little villages and hamlets that aren't worth mentioning in anything because they barely contribute to anything but their own survival.
Spellcasters are too dead or insane (as in mad) to be a considerable force.
When I saw the title of this thread, I thought group meant organization, but I guess not.
And about Drizzt slaying the orcs, well he only had the help of a few magic items, two elves, and a little bit else, and so what that the dwarves lost- Drizzt put a huge dent in the army.
I think that a combined group of several epic adventurer parties that have a well thought out plan can do just about anything.

Perhaps elves. They have a habit of casting high magic that results in the eradication of empires and the literal reshaping of continental landmasses, with the consequent deaths of countless lives.

300 is good for a few things:

1) Hot guys.

2) Good action.

3) Good visual poignancy.

Everything else about it is trivial and moderate in quality at best. It's the definition of eye-candy.

Dan just proved an old point of mine.

I'm a construction worker who HATES sports. When others guys would talk about a football game, I would comment on the beauty of an Iceskating competition I caught.

They thought I was gay. :uh-huh:

So let me get this straight (pun intended) - when a man gets together with other men to watch a bunch of other sweaty men (in a movie or sporting event) with NO women present, they are being 'macho'?

But if I prefer to sip wine in a room full of women and watch gorgeous girls in skintight leotards do splits and perform other incredible flexible feats, that makes me gay?

I guess that makes Dan the straightest guy I ever met. :P

As for me, I HATED 300. I'm too 'into' history to stomach that kind of thing.

I wonder if 'Cheerleader Nation" is on tonight, I need to get in touch with my 'feminine side'.... ;)

I liked 300 for their good fight scenes and special effects. One thing I didn't like about it was the fact about it being politically incorrect. I always found Leonidas arrogant, perhaps arrogant and stupid fight head on. Just like an orc...Oh yeah...I take back what I say....He's cool!!

-Mets. The Realms, I can live without. I was blissfully unaware of the setting for the majority of my life. Witnessing the possible historic collapse of my team, a team who won the World Series only a few days after my own birth? That I can't stand.

I'm not gay but I support gay rights. I have a gay relative, so I don't mind gay people much at all. There's just too much stereotype over gay people. Besides, if gay rights aren't given, then our Constitution is hypocritical: "You may worship as you please, but you can't be gay because Christian religion doesn't allow that."
MarkusTay63

09-30-07, 02:17 PM
Actually, I found the level of gayness in Alexander far less tolerable.

Since I can't appreciate 300 for it's historic value, and I certainly can't appreciate it for the 'oily gents', I have to give it a pass.

I saw the coming attractions, and I could have sworn I saw an Ogre (half-Orc?) in the film. I'm fairly certain their weren't any real ogres in ancient Greece (aside from the boy-loving philosophers). :P

Not that I mind that sort of 'docu-drama' format, because it often makes the story more interesting - that's why I enjoyed Braveheart. A little bulls__t mixed in with my history is fine for Hollywood renditions, but 300 appears to have thrown history right out the window and is firmly entrenched in the realm of fantasy.
GothicDan

While I agree from a historical standpoint that it was a tad off the wall, it annoys me to no end to hear anyone say they didn't like it for it's lack of historical accuracy.

It was NEVER meant to be historically accurate. The story was taken by Frank Miller, and given a comic booky, action take that was purely artistic in nature. It was said time and again that it was meant to be nothing more than that, and the movie was a direct recreation of the graphic novel, and in that sense it did a stunning job.

I Personally loved the movie (Perhaps not for the well oiled men Dan but i'm glad you enjoyed them ;) ), and had no qualms with it. It was what it was promised to be, and in that it was amazing.

Best movie ever though? Hmmmm, not likely. For me Princess Bride takes that lofty award. ;)

A evil women you say? Intresting...so these evil females are that of a support person to the actually hero of the story correct? They sit idle casting healing spells while the men take care of buisness. I do concur with your undeniable logic that you have posed. So in theory, women are around in FR only for a sidekick and should be on thier knees thanking men for the privilege of allowing women to exist.

Perhaps I will attempt to watch this movie today. I own it, and my kids liked it, but I only caught a few glimpses of it when it was on. What I saw made me think "thats not Greece", but perhaps I was being too judgemental. I didn't know it wasn't meant to be anything but a farce. Still, 'oily greek men' give me the heebie-jeebies.... :P

Funny thing is, this is nothing new. Spartacus was the original 'gay fanboy' movie. Something about them Greeks in skirts... ;)

Extinction, it might be easier to understand what you said if you applied some punctuation properly.

Just a tip. I find it too tedious to even read through that above paragraph, all personal feelings aside.

Also: Finding a member of another sex attractive is NOT 'gay.' Wishing to have intimate relations with a member of the opposite sex IS. Millions of females call other females 'pretty' or what not, but that doesn't make them gay. Or bisexual.

I find it purely moronic that straight males can't even qualify another male's level of aesthetic attractiveness. It's kind of sickening. I find females to be INCREDIBLY nonsexual, to me, but I can still tell you when one's pretty.
Red_Wizard

10-03-07, 05:34 PM
You beat me to it GD.

While I am not gay myself, I see no reason why I should not comment on the attractiveness of another male. If you can say a guy is dirt ugly, or "gross" looking, then you can also note whether or not another male might have aspects about them that could be found appealing. Alternatively I suppose that you could also note features that you yourself would desire to possess.

There is nothing Homosexual in this EB, sorry to disappoint you. Perhaps looking inwards might help you realize why you have gone through so much trouble to delude yourself.
GothicDan

Alternatively I suppose that you could also note features that you yourself would desire to possess.

Actually, this is largely one of my beliefs as to why gay guys tend to "look better" than straight ones - ask the female ones. (I don't count. I was just born ugly.)

They're not afraid to label what's attractive in a male, and so they apply that to themselves.

Note how many 'metrosexuals' are more common in Europe than America. Poor, poor, deluded America...
