11-20-07, 04:15 PM I like Thay, but can't find any info on them, besides what is in the FRCS. Can someone give me better background?

Also, see the novel Red Magic for insights into Thay and the conduct of the Red Wizards. The Simbul's Gift and the more recent Crimson Gold novel. See the 1e and 2e FRCS as well. And, the Heroes' and Villains' Lorebooks. I'd suggest Silverfall also, and Elminster's Daughter, as well as the "Watercourse" trilogy. There's also the "Haunted Lands" trilogy... starting with Unclean.

See also Jean Rabe's "Red Ambition" from the Realms of Magic anthology for more insights into the ways of the Red Wizards. I don't immediately recall whether that particular tale was included in the first Volume of the "Best of the Realms."

But I suppose if you want to know why such an incredibly powerful nation of mages can't even beat one single crummy little 'backewater' neighbor, then THAT novel is a perfect example of Red Wizard idiocy. :bored:

11-22-07, 03:20 AM what is up with the Candlekeep Compendium? (I've never heard about it exept for your sig)It's a FREE online resource that fans of the Realms can download to get additional lore for use with their games. It's unofficial, so nothing contained therein is considered canon.

However, occasionally something from there does make it into the 'real' Realms - consider that designer Brian R. James is a contributor. :cool:

11-24-07, 03:13 PM c'mon it wasn't THAT badI was serious - I never read a SINGLE Harper novel after that - not even ones written by Ed or Elaine (and I heard they were very good).

I just can't stand the Organization after that - I don't know why, it's inexplicable, but I feel like rending flesh with my teeth whenever I think about it.

But that's just me...

Having read OVER 6000 pieces of literature in my lifetime, I'm a bit discerning. ;)
