The river Styx [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-13-07, 10:36 AM Is there anywhere on toril that the river styx flows through? I know it can probably be accessed by spells and such, but I wonder if there is a place on toril, where the river styx touches naturally (or unnaturally).
If not, where would be a logical spot where the river styx and charon can be accessed?

08-13-07, 02:32 PM Maybe somewhere in the Underdark, or deep in the sewers beneath a large city. Maybe Skullport? I don't know of any canon sites, but that's not to say that there aren't any.

08-14-07, 07:38 AM Deep beneath the ruins of Hellgate Keep, where the fiendish powers contaminated the land, through foul magic a breach between the planes could have occured, letting a part of the Blood River spill into Faerūn.

My spontaneous idea. Althought I mayhap do not know enough about this place, or what has happed ther in some novel. The castle of Zhengy (SP? the Vaasan Witch King)could work, too, since the Damarans seem to be bothered frequently by beings of the lower planes. :)

To the OP, It makes no mention in HoTA, ToNH, or the Latest dragon mag concerning the River Styx touching on ANY prime, let alone Toril. Beginning on Pazunia, and ending on Avernus it crosses several of the lower layers of both the Abyss, and the Hells, but seems to restrict its flow to areas of corruption and evil alone.

Perhaps the better question is why has the effects of contact with the water changed three times since being stated in HoTA? :rolleyes:

08-14-07, 09:16 AM I would have to agree and say some where in the Underdark would be the most ideal place to put area affected by it. Or atleast be able to access it easyer.

In the underdark the Lake of Shadow's is known to touch the plan of Shadow because the barrior (bad spelling) is thin their. So it could be easy to say that an area could have easy access to the river if you so wanted. Drow are very well known for summoning creatures from the lower planes and could be concluded that an old drow summoning site could make the connection to the River due to the amount of magic used in the past or what not to make it easyer to summon creatures their.

Just my 2cents..

Indeed. Personally I like the name Styx better, but then again I am a big fan of the Greek pantheon, so I might be biased there.

08-14-07, 07:53 PM The River of Blood technically flows through the layer of Avernus in the Nine Hells... it runs into the Styx as the Styx also runs through Avernus.

08-15-07, 04:06 AM I like the idea of demons and devils being able to make a area evil enough to have a physical manifestation of the River Styx (river of blood) run throgh it. Like Myth Drannor when they controlled it. Or little bolt holes in the underdark.
