When searching for a place on Faerun where I could establish a new and fresh campaign, I stumbled upon a country called Turmish. Some of you may have heard of it, others might not; there wasn't a whole lot of info about it in the Forgotten Realms Handbook. I admit to not owning all of the supplementary books about various regions of Faerun, but those that I do own or have browsed (that belong to friends) also seem to have bypassed Turmish for the most part.

So, what do we know about Turmish? When I wrote my campaign, being unable to find any information, I went ahead and created my own history, government and NPCs for the realm, as well as its political stance, allies/enemies, and current status. Of course it's probably miles away from anything close to the REAL Turmish, but I did what I could with what I had.

Now I'm curious; what info has been released about Turmish? Anything at all? What info can any of you offer to help me learn about this often-overlooked country?

The background I can think of for Turmish was from the novels Azure Bonds and Song of the Sauriels, both of which had Turmish characters and gave some insight into their culture, which seems quasi-Arabic.

Ed's POLYHEDRON articles as well [#96, 98, 101, 103–108]. These contain some lore that didn't make it into The Vilhon Reach accessory.

See Mel Odom's The Jewel of Turmish novel also.

I'm running my campaign in Turmish as well (on the shore of the Lake of Drifting Stars specifically) and the Vilhon Reach boxed set (available for download from this site) is the first and foremost for the lore and the governmental set up and the general overview of the land.

I also have the polyhedron issues and they are quite good and you can read between the lines to develop more lore.

I didn't find much use for the Jewel of Turmish from a lore standpoint, as most of the book deals with two characters traveling in the wilderness and doesn't really touch on life in Turmish.

If you can get your hands on some of the "Warriors and Priests of the Realms" and "Wizards and Rogues of the Realms" (2e books, likely LONG out of print but I'm pretty sure you should be able to find a pdf at pazio or somewhere like that) then you can read the sections on Turmishite (never call them Turmites *g*) warriors, rogues and wizards. Which lends a bit more flavor.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to look into the history of Jhaamdath, which has a tiny bit in "Lost Empires of Faerun" and if you google Jhaamdath there's a page out there somewhere that has an extensive write up (not cannon, but it's somethin) about Jhaamdath.

And. . . that might be all I can think of. If you have any specific questions feel free to message me. :)
