| Alyss07-20-07, 09:11 PM | Is there a detailed map of vaasar anywhere. I'm starting my campaign there. Probabley.... Where should I start my campaign? I want mud and misk and a nasty sense of death hanging around in the background, and cold too. Where's good for that? |
| Faraer07-20-07, 09:38 PM | Vaasa is most fully detailed in FR9 The Bloodstone Lands (http://paizo.com/store/brand/forgottenRealms/roleplayingGames/2ndEdition/v5748btpy7ml2), by one R.A. Salvatore. Unfortunately, it's not particularly well integrated into Realmslore. The northern Moonsea lands are almost as cold, and just as unpleasant. The Sword Coast North would also suit, dangerous but not uniformly sinister. Respectively, see The Moonsea (http://paizo.com/store/brand/forgottenRealms/roleplayingGames/2ndEdition/v5748btpy7mm0) or Mysteries of the Moonsea, and The North and Volo's Guide to the North (both free downloads (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads)). |

| Doom of Men07-24-07, 10:56 AM | Yay, another convert for Vaasa, my pet peeve FR country! MarkusTay (here (http://markustay.deviantart.com/gallery/)) did a map of the Moonsea area, but not Vaasa itself, if I'm not mistaken. The best official map of Vaasa will be the 'Bloodstone Lands'-map. Also, take a look at MadIrishman's very nicely done map of Damara (http://www.mad-irishman.net/pub_dnd.html#damara_map). As for a cold and dark atmosphere, you can't go wrong with Vaasa. Remainders of an undead and goblinoid army, strange happenings over Castle Perilious, and an ambitious epic level Ice Witch living nearby. Plots a-plenty I say! Also, remember that Vaasa is isolated and far from decent civilized countries. Trade is probably limited, and some Zhentarim dude is probably very interested in taking over the few caravans that pass by, and milking the few settlers for all they're worth. See also this thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=869154) from not so long ago. EDIT: as for starting the campaign, I recommend Darmshall, the only decent city in Vaasa (if you don't count the far-off Palischuk or the dwarven settlements), and the only Vaasan city that withstood the seige by the lich Zhengyi. |
