| Zandilar06-19-07, 06:03 AM | Heya, SO Blackstaff died? How the hell did that happen? And when? I've been 'outta the loop' for about 2 years RL time....he was like my favorite guy, how'd he go? Fulfilling his destiny, basically. (The when is 1374 DR, the Year of Lightning Storms.) Read the novel Blackstaff for all the details (plus light shed on Khelben's past). Spoilers: His body was destroyed over the course of the novel, and he shared head space with one of his apprentices, a half elven woman called Tsarra, for the vast majority of the novel... But in the end, he sacrificed himself so that the High Moor would be restored. There's now a city in the High Moor called the City of Hope. Khelben has also passed the mantle of Blackstaff, as well as leadership of the Moonstars, along to Tsarra. I speculate that she may become one of Mystra's Chosen at some point in the future. |
| Old Sage06-19-07, 09:43 AM | Tsarra has assumed the guise of the Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun. This means that right after the events of the novel, she is a Lord of Waterdeep, head of the Moonstars and mage teacher at Blackstaff Tower. We don't know what happens subsequent to that. What is likely is that she might relinquish one or both of the first two offices. It's a crime to masquerade as a Lord of Waterdeep, so she may reveal herself to Peirgeiron who may decide to keep her on as a Lord. Or not. I doubt she'd get far trying to masquerade as one - although if that suits your Realms and campaign, that's fine as well. She may have a better chance of masquerading as Khelben in terms of his leadership of the Moonstars, but canny members such as Malchor may soon find her out. This one is up in the air at present. She will definitely continue 'being Khelben' in terms of a presence in Waterdeep and a presence in his wizard school in Blackstaff Tower. She is not a Chosen of Mystra. |
| Lord Karsus06-19-07, 10:30 AM | -Khelben's actual name is 'Akhelbhen', which means in Elven, ‘He whom Magic, Duty, and Honor Defines’. He was given this name by Mystra, at birth, though a hard-of-hearing wetnurse thought she heard 'Khelben', instead of 'Akhelbhen'. -Since birth, Khelben's duty was to bring back the lost city of Rhymanthiin, the City of Hope, the final survivor of Miyeritaar. The city had somehow been put in a "stasis" of sorts either before or during the Dark Disaster, which created the High Moor. -During the events of Blackstaff, Khelben finally goes about fufilling his destiny. With his 'purpose' complete, Khelben is finally given the opportunity to rest. His body and soul were consumed in the High Magic ritual that brought the city back, along with Ualair the Silent, the great Elven Selu'Taar. Finally, after going through so much, Khelben was allowed into Arvandor, an added bonus as, for so many years, his own Elven nature was ignored and denied by others, and at times, Khelben himself. |
| Fillow06-19-07, 02:44 PM | Whoooh Yesterday, I learnt the death of Shandril. Today, it is Khelben. Who will die tomorrow ? You know, in France we don't have all novels published. Some are translated, others are not. But these which are not translated are not published. So these both novels were not translated ! Are there other VIP who are about to die ? |
| Lord Karsus06-19-07, 02:47 PM | Are there other VIP who are about to die ? -There is a thread in the FR General section taking bets.* *Ok, not really, but we are discussing the topic. |
| Karsus the Mad06-20-07, 06:17 AM | Whoooh Yesterday, I learnt the death of Shandril. Today, it is Khelben. Who will die tomorrow ? Halaster. The excerpt from EtU is funny. Today, in response to a looming arcane disaster, Halaster attempted a ritual that resulted in the Mad Mage's death. As his soul shattered, he was able to send visions to those with arcane connections and ties to Undermountain, warning them of the coming danger and urging them to save his beloved domain. I think I'll take it with a grain of salt tho'. |
