Master Sylvius 12-22-07, 10:40 PM	Having my players in Cormyr during the end of Azoun IV reign, I was wandering if anybody would have a cue on crown princess Tanalasta's stats at the time of her death. In the first cormyr novel, she appeared to be an arisotcrat but asks Vangey to teach her magic. We then see her embrace Chaunteas' fate during the next two other novels. At 36 years of age, she should at least have had a few levels in the aristocrat class (2 or 3) after living through court life for so long. Since she was quite a scholarly lady, she could have picked up on magic quite easily, hence having at least 1 and maybe up to 3 levels in the wizard class. Her adventure against the Gazneth should have permitted her to gain other levels, maybe in the cleric class? I dunno. Help me out! hehe :)
Stigger 12-23-07, 01:35 PM	I'm kinda iffy on the mage stuff... she seemed to rely on magical items whenever she cast spells as I recall, since I don't remember her ever really actually casting any spells herself. Been a while since I read it though, and the memory could be slipping. Ideally, I'd give her a few levels in Aristocrat, maybe one or two in Wizard, and a few in the Loremaster PrC, even though I seriously doubt her spellcasting would justify qualifying for entry into that PrC... it just seems to suit her pretty well. Barring that, I'd probably come up with a NPC class called something like Sage, kinda like a non-spellcasting wizard with lots of skill points, and give her several levels in that to reflect the large amounts of lore she seemed to have at her fingertips.

Storm_Silverhand 12-23-07, 05:18 PM	Heya, I have a vague recollection of a short story with a title involving a cat somewhere (and not the Myrmeen Lhal one in one of the Realms of anthologies) that was published in Dragon magazine (I think) that had Tanalasta following through on her "threat" at the end of Cormyr: A Novel to learn magic. She was traveling around Cormyr incognito with Vangerdahast, in much the same manner her father before her had. But that's all I remember of that. I don't think I'd give Tanalasta cleric levels. It was very strongly implied that she was a wealthy benefactor and lay member of the Church, just trying to give the Church a leg up in the Kingdom (which Azoun quite rightly knocked back, and shows that Tanalasta's wisdom was not extraordinarily high, as you would expect for a priest, since she should have known what her father's reaction would have been and why). Interestingly enough, it looks like no priest is required to marry Chaunteans, since Rowan (who was a Ranger, so maybe he could stand in for a Priest?) and Tanalasta did the marriage "ceremony" themselves while on the road.

I have to agree that I didn't feel too sorry for Tana when her father didn't follow through on her wishes (Cormyr doesn't need an "favored religion"...).
Stigger 12-23-07, 07:01 PM	Big difference between being wise and politically savvy... though given her description in the 2e Cormyr sourcebook, I find it hard to swallow that she would have been that politically naive... or course I find it hard to believe she'd be as stupid as she was portrayed in the Cormyr novel too.

All too true...I didn't care for how Tanalasta was written in Beyond the High Road. But that's a topic for a different thread.

What I think I'll do with her is a neutral good Aristocrat 2/ expert 4 (lore)/ Mage 1 while putting the emphasis on the search and Knowledge History-Local-Nobility skills. What do you think?

Sounds pretty good. She was supposedly a lot of a book worm, so the Expert (lore) fits, definitely... But keep in mind that she was older than Alusair, so she'd quite probably have at least a few more levels (given Alusair is level 10 in FRCS)... They both would have gained XP during the Cormyr series, since they were both out and about and doing things.
