| Sith_Lord_V12-25-07, 10:00 PM | OK, so, the latest article on the Elven Races states the following.... " Drow share the agility of their cousins, which they often put to use in stealth and trickery. Although they are no taller than Eladrins, they have a presence that often makes members of other races feel smaller and on edge -- a fury seems to be at constant boil behind their blank white eyes, ready to explode at the slightest provocation. Like the elves, their moods can change in an instant, most often transforming into blind, murderous rage ". ....Soooooo....Does Drizzt no longer have " Lavender Eyes " ? It will be interesting to see how much they screw all this up..... |
| Straploknight12-25-07, 10:27 PM | Its a nod to the past, when drow were introduced as the complete opposite of the elves, where there was variation in the elves, drow were only jet skinned with white hair and featureless white eyes, but they could pull it off in FR by providing tint to those milky orbs. Thats what I had somebody do with this guy http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/bossco/CoH/image001.jpg |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit12-25-07, 11:16 PM | hm.. thought you were going to talk about magadon from the everis cale following. |
| Lord Karsus12-26-07, 01:03 AM | -Here's a simple solution, connecting old lore, with new lore and some made up lore, provided in Elves of Faerūn" When a Drow is using his/her Darkvision/Infravision/"Drow Vision", a mucus membrane that is composed of voluntary muscle covers his/her eye. This is what allows him/her to change the spectrum of light he/she is utilizing. When he/she is not doing this, the membrane is safely tucked in the eyelid, allowing for the Drow to have normal-looking eyes. |
| Sith_Lord_V12-26-07, 07:06 AM | Lord Karsus, That is an excellent and well reasoned fix. However, these designers don't engender much trust in me, so I can only hope they see your post and at least consider it. |

However, that shouldn't stop anyone else from using their reasoning to come up with a reason (this one, or any others) to reconcile old and new lore. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin12-26-07, 11:05 AM | I noticed this bit myself and wondered if drow are now lacking in pupils. |
| The Ubbergeek12-26-07, 02:43 PM | Core fluff is overriden by settings fluff. |
| Lord Karsus12-26-07, 03:08 PM | Core fluff is overriden by settings fluff. -Unless Realmslore is rewritten to reflect the Core Lore. Which, unfortunatley, happens... |
| Another Gnome12-26-07, 04:23 PM | Drow have pupils, but because they're over-sensitive to light, when viewed in visible light the pupils contract to almost nothing. Couple this with colorless irises (in case of some drow), and it gives an impression of completely white "blind" eyes. |
| Zanan12-26-07, 05:30 PM | -Unless Realmslore is rewritten to reflect the Core Lore. Which, unfortunatley, happens... Ach well, they should simply start to read the previous sources and stick to it. The not so old MM 3,5 had the drow with red eyes, others have red and white equally shared, while Ed Greenwood's FR drow ... well, all that matters to me: Most drow have red eyes. Others have green, brown, or black. Various shades of gray, even amber and rose-hued eyes are not unknown. All drow eyes tend to grow redder when they are angry or upset. Yellow eyes usually denote illness, disease, poisoning, or the presence of certain detrimental magics. Blue and purple (and all the tints thereof) are the most unusual eye colors, and usually denote human or surfaceelven blood somewhere in the drow's ancestry. TDotUD, p.5 |

| AskaniPsion12-29-07, 12:30 PM | They are like Storm from the X-Men - when they use their powers their eyes turn white :D Why do you think Storm has the white hair? - she is half-drow :P |
| MarkusTay6312-29-07, 01:01 PM | She's a Drow, alright... :D http://www.ccs.neu.edu/home/spellacy/xmenpictures/Flair_Storm.JPG Lord Karsus, That is an excellent and well reasoned fix. However, these designers don't engender much trust in me, so I can only hope they see your post and at least consider it.BTW, that was MY article... ;) And if I recall, some folks didn't really like the explanation at the time, but it was the only one I could come up with that rectified RAS's (and others) novel lore with 3e rules. ONLY FR Drow have this nictating membrane - core Drow do NOT. This allows the FR Drow to still switch between Infra-vision and Dark-vision. It is possibly a blessing of Lolth, or a mutation caused by Faezress, but whatever, it is UNIQUE to FR Drow. |
| Lord Karsus12-29-07, 01:14 PM | BTW, that was MY article... ;) -Editors get all the credit! :P -Nah, but I didn't take credit for it. I just said, from Elves of Faerūn. |
| AskaniPsion12-29-07, 09:05 PM | She's a Drow, alright... :D http://www.ccs.neu.edu/home/spellacy/xmenpictures/Flair_Storm.JPG Yep! She took a feat to turn her innate Levitation into Flying :D |
