The first appearance of her stat-wise that I know of comes from Monster Mythology, where she is listed as a Drow Heroine/Demigoddess. That's AD&D, and she was listed as an Illusionist 14 / Thief 16 - which cannot be easily compared to D&D 3E. Or, to give you an example, Lolth was listed in the same book as Wizard 14 / Priest 16, but in Demihuman Deities, the stats of deities (or rather the stats of their avatars) soared and she was listed as a Cleric 33 / Mage 31 / Fighter 20. That were multi-classed levels, so the avatar stats listed last did not belong to a 84 HD Lolth, as the calculations would add up to in D&D 3E. She got new stats there, see Faiths & Pantheons - if need be.

Do note that Zinzerena did not enter the FR pantheon. When she attempted, Lolth barred the way and either slew or repelled her. Lolth is cultivating a religion in Zinzerena's guise withing Realmspace though, trying to gain worshippers discontent with the rule of the Spider Queen. The story given in Monster Mythology as well as Drow of the Underdark is rlevant for Greyhawk.

Indeed it does. It picks the story of MoMy up and expands it a little for the FR.

-It seems to me, though, that the entire "storyline" has been dropped. With so much emphasis on FR Drow lately, there hasn't been one mention of Zinzerena, once. Telling, I think, don't you agree? It's a shame, too, because I sort of liked the Zinzerena/Lolth angle.

They decided that somewhere, she had to have a physical body at one point(recalling the legend that she was illusion). For reasons they haven't made known to me, they want her remains. I'll get a hold of both of those books just so I can be prepared. Thanks!

*I can't say it enough. I LOVE these guys! Greatest players in the world, I swear!

Well, there are probably half a million storylines in the F&A series alone and about 5% have been taken up somewhere in lore or novel. "Zinzerena" would indeed by a fine option for all discontent souls among the drow, especially the non-evil ones who are not out to "go back" to the surface (as they do not belong there) and are not good enough for Eilistraee et al. Just the normal I-don't-like-Lolth chaps and lasses looking for something else.

Well, I did note the underlying more chaotic than good tone in Cavatina's behaviour in SotW. Since she ... did things to Selvetarm and shot out of no-where into the epic level region (she's listed in Expedition to Undermountain as Darksong Knight 8 / Cleric 14; making here the highest-level Eilistraeen on Toril), I wouldn't mind her taking over some CN role in the drow pantheon after the Lady Penitent series. Four weeks till Storm of the Dead ... well well.

07-23-07, 03:28 PM According to the history presented in the "Arcane Age" books, the drow do belong on the surface. I wish these books would have been available where I was living. It would have steered my gameworld in a whole nuther direction!

Still, in their quest for Zinzerena's final resting place, I think my players may uncover facts that not everyone wants discovered...

07-24-07, 04:35 PM This may be a shot in the dark, but if Zinzerena was originally noted as a demigoddess in Greyhawk, and according to the rules given for the gods in the Faiths and Avatars sourcebook, Demigods and Demigoddesses are bound to their home plane and sphere and can only travel between planes through spells and devices. Until they raise their status as a divinity they are bound. The only exception that I am aware of is Finder Wyvernspur and the Abyssal Lords that have attained Demigod status.

With this in mind it is quite possible that Zinzerena still exists as a Greyhawk Demigoddess, and her mortal remains may still be there. I have never heard this name before, so I don't know where it comes from.
